Description
The Arlington Police Dept, the Washington Regional Alcohol Program (WRAP) and Red Top Cab unveiled the Chooser Cruiser, a half taxicab/half police cruiser. The vehicle is a reminder to folks who may have had too much to drink that they have a choice as to the vehicle they will be in when their evening comes to an end.
A
Welcome
to
this
edition
of
newsmakers.
Today
we
attend
the
unveiling
of
the
chooser
Cruiser,
half
police
car
half
taxicab.
It
was
designed
as
a
head-turner
to
remind
folks
who
have
had
too
much
to
drink
that
they
can
choose
one
of
two
ways
to
end
the
evening.
Arlington
police
chief
Douglas
Scott,
gave
some
background.
B
When
it
comes
to
drunk
driving,
it's
equally
important
to
focus
on
the
fact
that
the
Washington
Metropolitan
Area
residents
lose
eight
of
their
family
members,
co-workers,
friends
and
loved
ones.
Every
single
month
as
a
result
of
drunk
driving
the
family
and
friends
of
a
hundred
and
fifteen
persons
who
died
as
a
result
of
drunk
driving
in
the
Greater
Washington
area
in
2010,
will
tell
you
without
question.
C
Ladies
and
gentlemen,
I
present
to
you,
the
chooser
Cruiser,
this
fully
operable
and
tactical
four-wheel
vehicle
adorned
with
the
succinct
message
quote:
choose
your
ride
aims
to
serve
as
a
poignant
reminder
that
has
drunk
driving
is
a
choice.
People
celebrating
with
alcohol
have
a
choice
and
how
they're
transported
at
the
end
of
an
evening
whether
they
that
be
in
the
backseat
of
either
a
taxi
cab
or
a
police
vehicle.
The.
B
Purpose
is
that
visual
display
awareness?
You
know
if
folks,
it's
different
people
go
up
and
look
at
it
and
they'll
read
some
of
the
information
that's
on
there
and
hopefully
the
message
about
calling
sober
ride
or
taxicab
service.
Just
another
reminder
that
you
need,
when
you're
going
out
to
have
that
plan.
The.

D
Washington
Post
is
held
wraps
sober
ID
as
an
initiative
which
is
presumably
prevented
hundreds,
if
not
thousands,
of
injuries,
ashes
and
deaths.
We
agree
in
this
holiday
season.
We
are
offering
this
free
cab
ride
service
to
those
21
and
older,
starting
on
December
14
2012
and
running
through
January.
First,
through
2012
area
residents
celebrating
the
holidays
with
alcohol
can
call
one
eight
hundred
two
hundred
taxi
and
be
afforded
a
safe
in
free
ride
home
starting.
B
Tomorrow,
night
you'll
see
it
in
clarendon
we
have
a
very
active
bar
district
here
in
Arlington
and
it'll
be
on
display
in
that
area.
You
know
so
it'll
be
a
reminder
to
folks
who
are
out.
You
know
enjoying
the
holiday
enjoying
contact
with
friends
that
they
need
to
have
that
plan
and
they're
all
alternatives
such
as
taxis.
Of
course,.
