Description
The official ground breaking for the first Affordable Assisted Living facility in Arlington County.
A
B
Building
before
us
will
be
substantially
renovated
and
it
will
provide
housing,
affordable,
housing
primarily
to
seniors
who
have
mental
health
disabilities,
and
what
we're
going
to
do
is
renovate
this,
so
it
really
functions
like
a
home.
The
individuals
will
have
their
own
units
with
kitchens
or
kitchenettes
there'll,
be
some
common
space.
Some
community
space
they'll
be
an
upper,
be
a
place
for
games
when.
C
This
project,
this
property
came
on
the
market
and
it
was
a
nursing,
home
or
assisted
living
project
before
privately
owned
and
privately
run.
That
was
just
about
the
time
we
were
looking
fairly
seriously
at
the
need
for
supportive
housing
for
many
of
the
folks
that
the
Department
of
Human
Services
served,
who
needed
to
age
in
place,
age
with
dignity,
age
with
increasing
level
of
services
but
age,
in
a
way
that
they
could
the
live
of
high
quality
of
life
and
still
be
part
of
our
community.
B
D
Mother
was
a
national
expert
in
long-term
care
and
issues
of
Aging,
and
so
this
would
be
the
most
fitting
tribute
you
could
possibly
imagine
she
cared
very
deeply
about
this.
She
worked
very
hard
in
the
state
legislature
and
in
the
National
Conference
of
State
Legislatures
to
to
work
on
issues
of
aging,
with
comfort
and
dignity,
and,
and
so
it
was
a
passionate
concern
of
hers
and
she
would
be
so
honored
and
we're
all
excited
and
I'm
very
honored.
Everyone
in
the
family.
