From YouTube: Bridge Demolition at Four Mile Run
Description
Arlington County Vice Chair Jay Fisette, Congressman Jim Moran, Alexandria Mayor Bill Euille, developers and others were on hand to mark the demolition of an old railroad bridge over Four Mile Run, near Route 1 and Potomac Avenue. Removal of the bridge will usher in a healthy new waterfront for Arlington and Alexandria as part of the Four Mile Run Restoration Master Plan.
The Four Mile Run Restoration Master Plan is a blueprint for transforming this area into an active and lively waterfront that connects Arlington and Alexandria. Demolishing the bridge is a key step in the long-term plan to re-build and restore Four Mile Run, its surrounding community, and its ecology.

Importance
of
this
event
today
and
the
demolition
of
the
bridge
is
that
it
really
is
one
of
the
key
steps
in
recognizing
the
vision
of
the
four
mile
run:
restoration
master
plan
that
the
City
Council
Alexander,
City
Council
in
Arlington,
County
Board,
adopted
back
in
2006
and
in
this
area
the
vision
was
to
create
an
open
and
accessible
waterfront
that
the
residents
of
the
city's
city
and
county
could
both
enjoy.
In
this
particular
area.
B
The
master
plan
calls
for
waterfront
access
some
places
for
people
to
get
down
to
the
water
from
up
here
to
sit
along
the
banks
of
the
water
to
be
able
to
get
back
and
forth
safely
on
a
bike
or
on
foot
and
really
kind
of
start.
This
process,
particularly
the
Potomac
Yards
area,
on
both
sides
of
Four
Mile
Run,
for
for
a
waterfront
that
attracts
people
rather
than
keeps
people.
C
Away
we
wanted
this
to
be
a
community
plan
and
it's
a
it's
a
beautiful
plan.
It's
going
to
take
money
it,
but
it
nothing's
going
to
happen
unless
you
have
a
vision-
and
this
spells
out
the
vision
and
I'm
more
than
confident
that
when
the
private
sector
sees
the
added
value
that
this
plan
will
provide
to
this
area,
turning
a
concrete
drainage,
ditch
into
a
beautiful,
beautiful
scenic
waterway
that
they're
going
to
put
money
up
it
to
help
fulfill
the
plan.
C
D
Is
one
of
the
first
really
visible
steps,
although
a
lot
of
other
things
have
been
happening?
The
removal
of
this
railroad
bridge,
which
has
been
sitting
here
and
for
20
years,
is
one
of
the
first
real
steps
in
both
creating
ecological
restoration
on
stream
and
actually
creating
access
to
the
stream
we're.
Currently.
All
we
have
is
this
we'd
covered
bed,
which
is
under
laying
by
a
concrete
bridge,
I've
grown.
