A
Good
morning
and
thank
you
for
showing
us
this
day
as
I
enter
my
40th
year
of
policing,
I
am
once
again
honored
to
participate
in
recognizing
those
that
have
proudly
served
before
us.
I
want
to
extend
my
heartfelt
thanks
and
support
to
the
families
and
friends
of
those
officers
we
honor
and
remember
today,
and
to
the
fellow
officers
and
deputies
who
are
here
in
spirit
from
around
the
country,
state
and
region,
and
thank
you
for
sharing
this
ceremony.
A
You
are
virtually
here
this
day
in
show
of
compassion
and
solidarity
for
our
fellow
officers,
who
are
no
longer
with
us
and,
most
importantly,
for
their
families.
As
you
take
a
moment,
try
to
envision
those
that
are
here
today
and
you
would
most
likely
imagine
many
different
uniforms
with
scores
of
law
enforcement
and
fire
agencies
represented.
A
There
is
a
unique
sense
of
unity
here,
a
kindred
spirit
that
ties
us
together.
It
is
what
draws
us
to
this
profession.
Some
might
think,
is
a
calling
of
sorts.
I
am
privileged
again
that
joined
the
Virginia
law
enforcement.
Family
and
our
partners
on
this
day
of
remembrance,
as
we
honor
the
men
and
women
who
have
given
their
lives
in
the
service
and
protection
of
their
fellow
citizens
by
the
very
nature
of
their
vocation
law
enforcement
officers
willingly
and
without
hesitation,
put
their
lives
on
the
line
in
the
line
of
service
to
their
fellow
citizens.
A
Their
courage,
training,
dedication
helped
keep
us
safe,
even
as
they
put
themselves
in
harm's
way,
their
selfless
acts
of
bravery,
we're
especially
demonstrated
time
and
time
again
during
this
past
year,
most
returned
home
every
night,
it's
often
to
their
loved
ones.
However,
some
are
called
upon
to
make
the
ultimate
sacrifice.
A
It
is
a
heavy
burden
that
every
police
officer
and
deputy
accepts
willingly.
It
is
a
cur.
It
is
courage
that
is
so
constant
and
commonplace
that
many
may
take
it
for
granted
and
that's
something
we
will
never
do
when
the
family's
place
of
flowers,
remembering
the
loved
ones
they
lost
when
officers
and
deputies
from
around
the
state
step
forward
with
their
ease
when
the
pipes
and
drums
play
our
hearts
are
deeply
moved.
A
Yes,
moved
in
sadness
for
those
that
we
have
lost
and
the
pain
that
is
derived
from
that
loss,
but
with
the
knowledge
on
our
behalf
that
these
officers
gave
their
last
full
measure
in
the
protection
of
their
community
every
day.
Those
who
have
taken
the
oath
as
law
enforcement
officers
demonstrate
their
commitment
by
we
being
willing
to
lay
their
lives
on
the
line
to
put
the
safety
of
others
first
and
foremost,
and
often
in
the
service
of
those
they
have
never
met
and
many
times
ahead
of
their
own
well-being.
A
I
am
confident
that
every
one
that
here
joins
me
in
praying
that
we
will
add
no
more
names
to
the
national
law
enforcement
memorial
this
year.
However,
the
nature
of
what
law,
enforcement
and
officers
do
and
how
the
safety
and
well-being
of
others
is
paramount
and
how
they
run
to
danger
when
everyone
else
is
running
away
from
it
all,
but
ensures
that
there
will
be
those
who
will
give
their
lives
in
the
line
of
duty
in
the
preceding
years.
A
This
year,
our
officers
and
deputies
are
facing
a
most
insidious
enemy.
We
are
losing
friends
and
family
to
a
most
unforgiving
virus,
so
while
this
day
this
week
is
meant
to
honor
law
enforcement,
I
would
be
remiss
not
to
recognize
the
peril
that
our
partners
in
the
medical
community
and
the
fire
services
are
facing
each
and
every
day,
like
our
law
enforcement
officers,
the
men
and
women
engaged
in
this
life-saving
endeavor
willingly
and
without
hesitation
put
their
lives
on
the
line
service
to
their
community
as
citizens
protected
by
courage
and
vigilance.
A
We
need
to
take
the
time
to
say.
Thank
you.
Thank
you
to
those
who
stand
between
us
in
harm's
way,
and
we
also
need
to
say
thank
you
to
the
families
represented
here
today.
We
can
show
our
thanks,
not
only
by
saying
saying
it
by
recognizing
the
challenges
faced
by
the
men
and
women
who
wear
the
badge
and
then
by
supporting
them
in
what
they
do,
each
and
every
day
to
virginia
law
enforcement,
community
families
and
officers.
A
