The Arlington Children And Nature Network (CANN), Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment (ACE), Potomac Overlook Regional Park, and WalkArlington invite you to TOUCH THE EARTH with your feet by joining School Board Chair Sally Baird on a Walkabout of Potomac Overlook Regional Park. Part of CANN's Touch the Earth Celebration marking the conclusion of Get Outside Week and the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, the kid-sized Walkabout will take children of all ages on a short guided hike on the Park's Heritage Trail.

The children in nature network held their official touch the earth kickoff event at potomac regional national park. The organization is dedicated to getting children outside while having fun along the way leading the event with school board. Chair sally bear who understands how important it is to get kids motivated and outside. I think.

More and more certainly with the schools, we know how hard kitty, kids study and all the work that they do and sometimes we actually have to make it really deliberate effort to make sure that they do get outside and play and there's so many great things to do in Arlington, I think.

Sometimes a lot of people think we need to go downtown to do things or head out somewhere else, but we've got such great resources here in Arlington whether Potomac overlook park, long branch park golf branch park, so many of the bike paths that you can actually get outside and run around and have fun. And you know it's just not an extra step to do so.

This is a new event. The Arlington children and nature network just started this year and the goal is to bring together everybody within the Ironton community, who's interested in reconnecting children with nature. So this is an event in honor of the 40th anniversary birthday and also to get the whole community together to show what we can do to get kids outside the goal of the islands and children and nature network is to bring together.

Everybody within the community who's got an interest in keeping our kids healthy and getting them outdoors, and so we're going to have events throughout the year. So some of the things that we're doing is bringing together the people within the health, the recreation, the Wellness, the environment, environmental communities and on having a wide array of activities that kids of all ages can do outside. The school's be partners I, think individually across schools. Teachers are very much a part of getting kids outside and connected to nature, and we do try to walk the walk of our talk and that this the way for all of us to stay healthy, and there is a lot of evidence. The more exercise kids get the better they do in school.

Within the children and nature network were really promoting that you can just get outside anywhere anytime, so kind of starting with keeping it very simple, but also we just want to also point out the wide array of resources we have in Arlington, so whether you're at your school grounds, your backyard with in the park system or even just outside, with in Arlington some urban areas, there's a lot of great ways to get outside.

We also have a lot of walk and biking trails and that's another part of the children and nature network to remind people that they can connect and get get places like getting our course. If.
