A segment of AVN's monthly magazine show, "Here/now", "Our Back Pages" explores Arlington history. This episode revisits the historic flights made 100 years ago at Ft. Myers by Orville Wright.
A
B
Wolverine
Orville
Wright
made
their
first
powered
heavier-than-air
controlled
flight
on
the
morning
of
December
17th
1903
at
Kitty,
Hawk,
North
Carolina
they
made
for
flights
that
morning
the
best
one
was
less
than
900
feet
in
59
seconds.
So
the
news
a
day
we're
going
to
have
to
push
themselves
and
improve
their
performance.
They
went
home
to
Dayton
and
by
the
end
of
1905,
they
have
a
practical
airplane
that
they
can
sell,
but
they
didn't
have
their
patent.
Yet
they
decided
that
they
didn't
want
to
reveal
their
inventions.
B
Julie
had
a
patented,
protective
and
contracts
to
solar
airplane,
and
that
didn't
happen
until
the
string
of
1908
people
knew
that
the
rights
were
out
there.
They
knew
what
the
right
claimed
to
have
done.
But
again
the
rights
have
stayed
on
the
ground
between
1905
in
1908,
and
people
did
ask
themselves.
Well,
you
know
if
you
guys
can
fly,
why
aren't
they
doing
it?.
B
C
B
It
was,
it
was
a
long
road
for
them.
They
had
tried
so
hard
to
get
anybody
interested
in
what
they
were
doing
and
believed
that
they
supplied,
but
they
didn't
want
to
show
anybody.
He
was
keeping
everything
under
wraps
because
they
were
really
getting
closer
and
closer.
Other
people
had
pieces
of
the
puzzle,
a
nice,
clean
design
or
nice
engine
design,
or
some
ideas
about
control
or
balance.
Nobody
has
worked
on
loud
and
put
it
all
together.
The
rights
for
the
gold
one
said
all
the
pieces
of
the
puzzle.
Together.
They.
C
C
B
Was
true
with
all
the
customer
learners
of
English
people
wanted
to
know
wanted
to
see
the
implants
they
wanted
to
be
able
to
find
out
how
it
work,
and
once
somebody
saw
the
airplane
flying
the
cabbage
family
be
out
of
the
bag.
Orville
got
here
just
about
the
time
of
his
birthday,
August,
the
19th
or
20th.
C
B
Really
stunned
the
world
with
that
very
first
flight
when
he
took
off
and
just
circled
to
feel
yeah,
it
was
a
short
flight,
but
already
they
could
see
that
he
had
complete
place
within
six
days
by
offenders.
A
monkey
had
broken
world
records
and
swung
well
over
an
hour.
He
was
absolutely
naturally
machine.
C
C
B
Your
flight
presentation
here
in
Europe
and
America,
looking
nearly
wild,
so
things
were
just
going,
swimmingly,
President
Taft
came
out
to
watch
them
fly
and
huge
crowds
showed
up
and
then
in
mid-september,
September
17
1908
Orville,
who
had
to
demonstrate
that
he
could
carry
passengers
was
flying
with
lieutenant
Thomas
F
lon
Selfridge.
They
were
at
about
150
feet
in
the
air
when
one
of
his
propellers
broke
and
they
crash
horrible
ships
was
broken.
Tom
Sawyer's
was
killed.
He
was
the
first
human
being
to
die
in
a
powered
airplane
crash.
B
The
army,
recognizing
how
successful
or
vilage
end
up
to
that
point
said
to
the
brother.
It
was
an
accident,
you
couldn't
help
it
come
back
when
you're,
ready
and
finish
the
demonstration
and
the
brothers
did
that
and
in
October
of
1909,
the
army
signed
on
the
dotted
line
and
what
the
world's
first
military
airplane
the
airplane.
That's
up
here,
the
1909
right
military
flyer.
C
C
B
C
A
You
have
some
celebration
at
Fort
wire
on
September's
fish.
You
can
sell,
see
the
1908
Wright
brothers
flyer
when
it
moves
to
Stephen.
A
hood
bar
has
a
museum.
You
can
also
see
the
original
1909
flyer
and
much
much
more
at
the
National
Air
and
Space
Museum
on
the
mall.
We're
really
fortunate
to
have
so
much
great
history
in
this
area
so
get
out
there.
Next.
