Description

Arlington held a ground-breaking ceremony for the Crystal City Potomac Yard Transitway, the DC area’s first dedicated right-of-way for public transportation. We’ll tell you more about that later in our program, but first…

Starting this summer, you’ll be able to pay for metered parking with your smartphone! The Parkmobile App, already popular in DC, is coming to Arlington. To learn how Parkmobile works and how to sign up, go to arlingtonva.us and search “Parkmobile.”

The Arlington County Board approved the Capital Improvement Plan – or CIP – to invest $2.7 billion over 10 years to support County infrastructure. This means funding for a wide variety of projects, including full support for the Arlington Public Schools improvement plan; park upgrades, a new fire station, Metro & the streetcar system. To learn about all the projects supported by the CIP, go to our website and search CIP.

Speaking of the streetcar, the Commonwealth of Virginia plans to increase its funding for the Columbia Pike streetcar by up to $65 million – bringing Virginia’s contribution to as much as 50 percent of total design and construction costs. The streetcar is expected to generate a substantial economic and fiscal return in the form of new real estate value, tax revenues and new jobs for the area. Learn more on our website, keyword Streetcar.

The new Transitway between the Crystal City metro in Arlington and the Braddock Road Metro in Alexandria will provide faster, more reliable bus service along the congested Route 1 corridor.

The Arlington Fire Department sponsors a 3-day camp that helps teenage girls find out firsthand what it’s like to be a County firefighter or EMT. The girls lugged hoses and fire extinguishers and experienced the physical challenges involved in firefighting and rescue response. The program is designed to encourage girls to consider a fire service career. To learn more about the camp for next year, check our website and search Girls Fire Camp.

And finally… It’s hot out there! Good thing we’ve got lots of places to cool off! There’s a public swimming pool at each of our three high schools, plus the Ocean Dunes Waterpark at Upton Hill Regional Park. And, we’ve also got spray grounds, which are great for small children who love to play under giant sprinklers. Find out the hours Arlington pools and spraygrounds are open on our website, keyword pool.

That’s all for now, thanks for watching! We'll see you Around Arlington.
