A
Hi
everyone
it's
alan
from
week,
critters
here
I
would
like
to
say
a
big
hello
to
all
the
little
explorers
that
I
met
during
the
arma
city
band
bridge
and
craig
gavin
borough
council's
outdoor
spaces
event.
This
summer,
I'm
excited
to
celebrate
the
great
outdoors
and
the
amazing
animals
that
we
share
our
home
with
in
a
series
of
short
videos.
A
We
critters
is
a
mobile,
interactive
animal
education
service.
Unfortunately,
many
animals
and
plants
are
being
driven
to
the
brink
of
extinction
and
we,
as
a
local
company,
bring
the
wonder
of
wildlife
to
all
the
big
and
little
explorers
through
our
interactive
sessions.
We
aim
to
provide
a
fun
memorable
and
educational
experience
with
services,
including
curriculum-based
school
talks,
group
visits,
animal
assisted
therapy
and
much
more
when
we
think
about
endangered
animals.
A
A
A
A
Hedgehogs
are
amazing,
little
mammals
that
come
from
across
europe,
africa
and
asia,
there's
about
17
different
species-
and
this
is
our
common
hedgehog.
Okay,
there
used
to
be
33
million
of
these
guys
across
the
whole
of
the
uk
and
ireland,
but
now
there
is
only
about
a
million
that
signs
a
lot
but
believe
it
or
not.
That's
a
big
drop,
so
these
guys
are
in
quite
a
lot
of
trouble
in
the
wild.
Now
these
mammals
have
a
really
cool
way
of
protecting
themselves.
You
can
see.
A
Acorn
here
has
a
really
prickly
body
and
his
body's
covering
hundreds.
If
not
thousands
of
little
spikes
when
he
gets
scared,
what
he'll
do
he'll
roll
into
a
ball
and
he'll
push
these
spikes
on
end
to
make
sure
that
a
predator,
such
as
a
fox
or
badger
commandeer,
won't
hurt
him
and
that
they
help
protect
them
from
these
bigger
animals.
A
A
I
say
bee
and
mammals,
they're
warm
blooded
and
they
need
lots
of
food
throughout
the
year
to
keep
them
active.
Obviously,
in
our
wee
country,
it
gets
very
cold
in
the
winter
time,
so
these
guys
will
actually
hibernate.
So
that
means
they
need
to
spend
a
lot
of
time
in
the
spring
and
summer,
fill
in
their
bellies
with
lots
of
insects
and
bugs
and
putting
on
a
lot
of
weight,
so
they
can
have
energy
to
be
able
to
sleep
their
way
through
the
winter.
A
Now,
as
I
mentioned,
hedgehogs
are
in
a
lot
of
trouble
and
there's
been
a
big
decline
in
the
numbers
in.
Are
we
country
and
there's
lots
of
different
reasons
for
that
these
guys
are
losing
a
lot
of
their
habitat?
Okay.
So
a
lot
of
the
hedgerows
that
these
guys
would
sleep
in
or
find
their
insects
and
bugs
in
are
disappearing
because
farmers
are
making
their
fields
a
lot.
Bigger
lots
of
our
gardens
are
so
secure.
A
Now
that
our
fences
are
going
down
to
the
ground,
the
hedges
can't
even
get
into
our
gardens
to
find
eat
the
slugs
and
bugs.
Unfortunately,
we've
got
lots
of
roads
in
our
wee
country
and
lots
of
traffic,
and
that
means
lots
of
hedgehogs,
unfortunately
aren't
very
good
across
the
road
and
they
can't
get
injured
and
hurt
by
the
cars
as
well.
Other
things.
Lots
of
people
love
really
nice
gardens
and
love
fancy
plants,
but
they
don't
like
the
slugs
and
snails
eating
them.
A
A
Now,
there's
lots
of
ways
that
we
can
actually
try
and
help
these
guys
in
the
wild.
We
can
plant
plants
in
our
garden
to
make
sure
we
attract
bugs
and
insects.
We
can
make
sure
that
you
have
a
hedgehog
highway
in
your
fence,
make
sure
there's
a
little
hole
underneath
that
the
hedgehogs
can
come
and
go
as
a
garden
as
they
please.
You
can
put
a
little
hedgehog
house
in
your
garden.
A
Fill
it
with
dry
leaves
and
hay,
and
that
will
be
a
lovely
place
for
hedgehogs
to
hibernate
somewhere
safely
throughout
the
throughout
the
winter
time,
when
it's
really
cold
other
things,
we
can
do
stop
using
pellets,
slug,
pellets
and
stuff
like
that,
the
killer,
slugs
and
snails,
because
we
want
to
protect
these
guys
now,
if
you
see
a
hedgehog
in
your
garden,
you
don't
have
to
be
alarmed
okay.
A
They
can
be
active
throughout
the
winter
a
little
bit
if
the
winter
is
still
quite
mild,
but
if
they
look
very
small
and
you
see
them
during
the
day,
that's
when
you
need
to
worry
okay,
these
guys
should
only
really
come
out
at
nighttime
and
they
only
really
come
out
of
the
day
when
they
are
either
hungry
or
wee
but
sick.
If
they're
a
certain
weight
they
need,
they
might
not
have
any
enough
energy
to
make
it
through
the
winter.
A
So
it's
best
to
call
a
wildlife
expert
such
as
myself,
to
get
a
little
bit
of
advice
to
make
sure.
If
you
can
help
them,
you
can
feed
hedgehogs
in
your
garden.
You
can
leave
them
a
little
bit
of
special
hedgehog
food.
You
can
buy
in
a
pet
shop
or
you
can
get
them
with
a
cat,
food
or
dog
food
as
long
as
it's
not
fish
flavored,
because
that
can
make
them
sick
people
used
to
think
think
that
you
could
feed
them.
A
A
Here
we
critters,
we
are
obviously
passionate
about
wildlife,
the
environment
and
the
great
outdoors,
but
we
are
also
big
advocates
for
reading,
which
is
why
so
many
of
our
animal
family
are
named
after
book
characters,
including
dub
of
the
oil
named
after
the
character
in
harry
potter,
bruno
the
moist,
named
after
the
character
and
rule
dials,
witches
and
peter
the
rabbit.
Today,
I'm
going
to
be
reading
your
story,
it's
called
the
very
helpful
hedgehog
and
it's
by
rosie
wellesley.
A
Isaac,
the
hedgehog
lived
a
quiet
life
under
the
tree
by
the
paddock
and
never
spoke
to
anyone.
He
never
helped
anyone
and
no
one
ever
helped
him.
He
liked
it
that
way.
One
afternoon
he
was
feeling
sleepy.
He
had
been
for
a
walk
on
his
own
caught
a
grub
and
eaten
it
alone.
Isaac
had
just
settled
down
for
a
nap
and
a
pile
of
old
leaves,
went
thud.
A
A
A
Who
are
you?
Why
were
you
under
my
apple?
Ask
the
donkey?
I
do
so
love
apples.
That
was
my
first
in
a
very
long
time.
Isaac
said
nothing.
Do
you
like
apples?
You
must
everyone
must
so
sweet,
so
crunchy
still
isaac
said
nothing.
So
the
donkey
kept
talking
apples
with
custard
apple
pie,
toffee,
apples,
apple,
crumble,
oh
joy,
oh
joy,
gala,
apples,
granny,
smith,
iris
peach,
honey,
crisp,
golden
supreme
golden
delicious
braeburn
bismarck,
john
alicious,
gilpin,
franklin,
cindy
red,
cox's
orange
and
cat's
head
such
feasts
such
aptly
treats
so
many
different
types
to
eat.
A
A
A
A
There
are
21
species
of
armadillos
in
the
world,
the
largest
being
the
giant
armadillo,
which
is
about
a
meter
and
a
half
large
okay
and
the
smallest
one
is
a
pink
fairy
armadillo,
which
is
about
this
size.
Now
armadillos
are
really
special
group
of
mammals
and
they
are
called
armadillos
because
in
spanish
it
actually
means
little
armored
one
and
they
have
a
really
cool
armor
to
protect
themselves
from
predators.
Their
body
is
covered
in
thick
bone
and
then
covered
in
thick
skin
made
out
of
keratin.
A
A
Do
it
today
because
he's
a
wee
bit
active
and
wants
to
go
for
a
walk
around,
but
he
he
will
use
this
to
roll
up
completely
into
the
ball,
to
protect
himself
from
predators
and
they
love
to
eat,
insects
and
bugs
so
just
like
acorn.
The
hedgehog
you
can
see
arthur
is
using
his
nose
to
sniff
around
a
lot
here.
He
doesn't
have
very
good
eyesight
and
he
uses
his
nose
to
sniff
around
for
bugs
on
the
front
of
his
feet.
Here
he's
got
some
large
claws.
A
Okay,
he
uses
those
claws
for
digging
in
the
ground
for
ripping
up
rotten,
logs
and
termite
mines,
and
he's
got
a
long,
sticky
tongue,
just
like
his
anteater
cousin
that
he
will
use
to
lick
up
all
insects
and
bugs
now
armadillos
are
unfortunately,
just
like
our
hedgehogs
or
in
our
country
are
in
trouble
in
south
america,
because
they're
losing
a
lot
of
their
habitat.
A
Lots
of
the
rainforest
and
the
dry
grassland
that
they
live
on
is
disappearing,
and
we
can
actually
make
a
big
difference
in.
Are
we
country
to
try
and
help
these
guys
make
sure
that
we're
all
recycling
at
home
and
try
doing
our
best
to
help
conserve
nature,
because
if
we
actually
don't
recycle,
that
means
more
trees
and
the
rainforest
and
amazon
will
be
cut
down
to
make
paper
for.
So
it's
really
important
that
we
recycle
at
home.
Now
I
mentioned
he's
got
a
long
sticky
tongue,
just
like
an
anteater.
A
These
guys
actually
are
related
to
anteaters
and
sloths.
So
a
really
unusual
group
of
mammals
so
little
explorers.
I
hope
you
enjoyed
meeting
acorn
the
hedgehog
today
and
arthur
the
three-banded
armadillo
and
hearing
our
brilliant
story
about
the
helpful
hedgehog,
come
and
join
us
again
on
our
next.
