From YouTube: Crash Zones 2014, January to June
Description
Asheville Police Department Traffic Safety Officers profile 2014 Crash Zones for January through June.
A
Hi
I'm
awesome,
reg
big
news
traffic
safety
unit.
We
are
currently
in
the
west
asheville
crash
reduction
zone.
It
begins
behind
me
here
at
sulphur
springs
in
haywood
road
and
continues
on
haywood
road
until
Westwood
place
just
on
the
other
side
of
240,
that
is
the
business
district
of
haywood
roads,
which
means
the
speed
limit,
is
20
miles
an
hour.
A
lot
of
people
are
unaware
of
this
and
regularly
exceed
this
posted
speed
limit.
We
have
a
large
number
of
pedestrians
and
bicycles
that
travel
this
road
on
a
regular
basis.
A
So
we'd
like
to
see
those
speeds
come
down
in
the
future.
We
also
identified
a
large
number
of
crashes
that
occur
in
this
area
due
to
drivers
failing
to
reduce
speed,
not
paying
attention
and
failing
to
yield
right
away.
We
believe
that,
if
motorist
will
lower
their
speed
limit
to
the
posted
20
miles
an
hour,
we
can
reduce
this
number
of
crashes.
B
The
current
crash
reduction
area
for
Baker
district
is
the
east
end
of
the
tunnel
on
Tunnel
Road,
all
the
way
to
the
intersection
of
South
tunnel
road.
This
has
been
identified
as
the
area
with
the
most
crashes
in
the
Baker
district
main
causation.
Factor
for
these
crashes
is
inattention,
failure
to
yield
right
away
and
improper
lane
change
to
the
number
of
businesses
on
Tunnel
Road.
The
area
is
a
lot
more
congested
and
we're
having
significant
crashes
in
this
area.
B
We
just
ask
that
when
you
are
traveling
on
Tunnel
Road
pay
attention
to
what's
going
on
around
you
when
you're
merging
onto
tomorrow
make
sure
you
come
to
a
complete,
stop,
make
sure
they're.
The
way
is
clear
for
you
to
go
when
you're
changing
lanes
just
take
a
little
extra
time
to
check
and
make
sure
that
the
lane,
besides
you
clear
so
you
can
merge
into
traffic
as
always
we're
going
to
be
stepping
up
enforcement
on
speed
and
safety
belts
as
well.
C
Hello
I'm
Officer
Jonathan
Derek,
where
the
Asheville
Police
Department's
Traffic,
Safety
Unit
behind
me,
is
a
stretch
of
roadway
long
shoals.
Road
in
south
asheville
is
currently
the
crash
reduction
zone
for
the
south
central
district,
the
first
half
of
2014
the
traffic
unit,
as
well
as
the
Patrol
south
central
district
officers,
will
be
increasing
traffic
enforcement
on
this
stretch
of
roadway
for
the
first
six
months
of
this
year.
This
is
a
result
of
numerous
motor
vehicle
collisions
in
this
area.
Numerous
of
them
also
involved
in
personal
injury.
The
stretch
goes
from
hendersonville
road.
C
All
the
way
to
scenic
Parkway,
which
is
the
interest
to
biltmore
park
and
Biltmore
town
square
between
those
two
locations,
is
a
long
stretch
of
roadway
that
encompasses
a
school
zone
as
well
and
that
school
zone
we
have
four
schools
in
the
area
and
the
school
zone.
Speed
limit
reduction
goes
from
normally
45
miles
an
hour
to
a
35
mile,
an
hour
zone
during
school
hours,
and
that
speed
limit
reduction
is
from
732
830
in
the
morning,
as
well
as
2
p.m.
to
330
p.m.
in
the
afternoons
when
school
is
in
session.
C
Please
be
aware
of
the
school
zone
reduction,
speed,
school
zone
tickets
will
cost
you
more
than
four
hundred
dollars
now
and
please
please
be
aware
of
that
reduction
because
of
all
the
buses
and
parents
and
schools
letting
out
and
getting
in
in
this
area.
There
are
numerous
motor
vehicle
collisions
on
this
stretch
of
roadway
in
Maine
causation
factors
of
those
motor
vehicle
collisions.
C
Our
failure
to
reduce
speed
and
inattention
will
be
conducting
radar
enforcement,
aggressive
driving
enforcement,
utilizing
undercover
vehicles,
unmarked
vehicles
and
also
conducting
day
of
night
license
checks
in
this
area
to
try
to
combat
speeding,
aggressive
driving
alcohol
impairment
and
other
motor
vehicle
violations
that
occur
numerous
times
traffic's
backed
up
on
this
roadway
as
a
result
of
the
school
we
have
vehicles
that
don't
pay
attention
and
rear
end
other
vehicles
that
are
stopped
or
slowed
in
the
roadway.
Please
be
aware
of
all
the
traffic
on
the
roadway
be
aware
of
all
your
surroundings.
