C
All
right,
good
afternoon,
everybody
I'm
chair
of
I'm
cory
atkins
chair
of
the
civic
center
commission.
Welcome
today
to
our
june
8th
meeting
of
2021.
We
had.
C
Back
a
week
do
some
absences
and
vacations
and
all
that
fun
stuff,
so
I
hope
you're
still
able
to
join
us.
Thank
you
to
all
of
our
committee
members
and
staff
for
participating
virtually
today.
E
C
E
C
E
C
Commissioners
had
an
opportunity
to
review
the
may
meeting
minutes.
C
C
C
Anyone
I
will
correct.
Thank
you
all
in
favor,
please
say
aye
why
aye
aye
all
right
that
approves
the
main
minutes
thanks
everyone
matthew.
Do
we
have
anyone
signed
up
for
public.
E
C
C
A
C
Yeah
just
time
to
let
us
know
so
that
we
can
have
discussion
if
needed.
Is
I
don't
see
council
member
mosley?
Is
she
homeless
today.
C
C
A
Yeah
sure
thing
so:
sports
commission
related
items.
We
announced
a
five-year
extension
of
the
southern
conference.
Basketball
championships
contract,
so
they'll
be
on
site
here
in
nashville
through
2026
that
same
first
weekend
in
march.
So
that's
moving
forward,
and
now
we
just
gotta
get
on
to
the
planning
stages
of
it.
Other
sports
commission
related
items
this
weekend
is
the
american
cornhole
league
pro
shootout,
so
that'll
be
friday
night
and
all
day
saturday.
A
The
finals
of
that
event
are
live
on
cbs
sports,
the
entire
thursday
or
friday
and
saturdays
on
web
stream,
with
acl
or
american
cornhole
leads
website,
as
well
as
cbs
webstream,
so
lots
of
fun
stuff
this
weekend
with
that
and
we've
got
irons
in
the
fire
on
a
few
different
events
with
them
that,
hopefully
we'll
be
announcing
sometime
this
summer.
A
E
C
All
right:
well,
thanks
chris,
I
appreciate
feeling
them,
but.
C
If
you
want
to
follow
up
with
deb
or
something
comes
up
later,
definitely
let
us
know
or
let
him
know
before
I
go
on,
I
neglected
to
introduce
we're
about
to
introduce
marshall
hillary
to
his
first
meeting
from
the
cbp.
But
before
that,
as
you
all
know,
sam
powers
are
with
us
for
a
very
long
time
and
those
of
you
have
been
with
the
board
and
on
the
staff,
know
and
appreciate
all
the
contributions
sam
made
a
civic
center
director
in
his.
C
D
C
B
Sounds
great
thanks,
corey
and
hi
everybody.
My
name
is
nikki
reed
and
yes,
I
stepped
in
and
took
over
sam's
role
as
the
interim
director
of
community
and
economic
development
so
happy
to
be
here.
I
work
for
the
city
since
about
2007
in
economic
development,
so
sam
hired
me
have
worked
for
sam
for
most
of
those
years,
started
off
as
the
real
estate
manager
and
happy
to
find
myself
now
helping
to
lead
the
department.
B
So
I've
worked
a
lot
with
the
city
and
kind
of
the
traditional
economic
development
format,
as
well
as
do
a
lot
of
work
with
affordable
housing
and
things
of
that
nature.
So
I'm
really
excited
to
learn
more
about
this
side
of
community
and
economic
development.
So
really
happy
to
be
here
today
and
thanks
for
having
me.
C
Awesome
thanks
nicki
and
we're
glad
to
have
you
thanks
for
being
here
today.
Also
we
have
another
new
face
with
us
here
on
the
commission,
the
new
vp
of
sales,
I
believe,
you're,
I'm
not
sure
what
your
formal
title
is.
Marcia.
C
That
but
marshall
hillard's
here
from
the
cbb
who
took
over
diana
pierce's
role
and
marshall
we'd
love
to
hear
more
about
your
background
and
and
what
brought
you
here
to
the
to
this
position
here.
But
also,
if
you
have
a
brief
update
for
us
from
the
cvb
we'd
love
to
hear
it.
G
Yeah
sure,
good
afternoon,
all
native
ashvilian
and
spent
a
career
in
hotels
with
kind
of
the
major
hotel
companies
up
and
down
the
east
coast
recently
came
back
to
asheville
working
for
the
the
parent
company
that
runs
the
renaissance
in
downtown,
so
got
to
know.
Diana
and
thankfully
got
to
to
take
this
seat
on
which
is
now
just
six
weeks
ago
here
at
explore
asheville.
So
I
came
in
at
a
good
time
and
just
kind
of
to
go
right
into
the
the
update.
G
We
seem
to
be
seeing
some
signs
of
recovery.
In
the
group
market
april
we
booked
2763
room
nights.
Preliminary
results
for
may
are
at
42.55,
so
that's
a
big
jump
from
april
still
a
little
bit
lagging
from
2019,
where
we
booked
just
over
7
000
and
the
corn.
G
Was
mentioned
is
in
in
these
numbers
as
well,
so
that
was
a
nice
last
minute
opportunity
through
the
sports
commission
in
terms
of
lead
volume.
Preliminary
may
leads
for
overall
group
business
we're
at
48.
G
G
C
All
right
we're
glad
to
have
you
keep
up
the
good
work.
We're
excited
to
see
those
numbers
going
up,
hopefully
continue
to
bring
in
more
big
events
here
at
the
civic
center
of
all
kind.
C
Conventions,
and
otherwise
that
can
continue
to
help
with
all
of
that
and
help
all
our
local
businesses
so
appreciate
you
and
your
work
that
your
team
does.
John.
Are
you
going
to
be
giving
us.
F
Corey
you're
you're
breaking
up
a
little
bit.
That's
why
we're
there
my
last
month,
wearing
two
hats.
Also
representing
the
symphony,
is
the
new
executive
director
daniel
krupi
should
be
arriving
on
board
around
july,
the
6th,
so,
who
knows
maybe
he'll
be
on
that
one
or
not.
First
of
all,
I
just
want
to
thank
chris
and
the
civic
center
staff
for
their
flexibility,
everyone's
trying
to
figure
out
their
new
season,
as
is
the
symphony
as
it
works.
F
So,
chris
again
I
want
to
thank
you
for
your
flexibility
of
working
with
us.
Is
we
tried
to
figure
out
what
we
were
doing
so
that's
about
it.
Thank
you.
A
No
problem,
as
always
corey
just
because
you
didn't
see
demp,
it
did
ended
up
jumping
on
sedan,
but
if
you
don't
want
to
do
a
sports
commission
update
just
so
you
don't
double
down
on
this.
I
talked
a
little
bit
about
the
five-year
extension
of
socon
and
the
cornhole
event
this
weekend,
but
that
was
it
as
far
as
sports
commission
related
events.
D
Oh,
you
just
took
everything.
Sorry
I
was
on
a
state
of
north
carolina
call
we're
you
know,
we're
being
very
aggressive
right
now,
as
you
can
see,
with
corn
hole,
and
chris
did
you
talk
about
the
television
time
of
that?
Okay,
so
you
know
we
are
hopefully
by
the
end
of
the
month,
we'll
have
another
big
announcement
that
regards
the
civic
center,
so
so
be
looking
for
that
you
know
we're
working
with
gaylord
gymnastics
to
get
them
back
in
january.
D
That's
important
and
you
know
we're
we're
actually
just
trying
to
find
dates.
Chris
is
doing
such
a
great
day.
Job
of
scheduling
concerts
that
it's
hard
to
find
dates.
So
we'll
you
know,
we've
got
some
things
that
we
want
to
get
accomplished.
We
want
to
get
a
our
grapple
has
already
got
31
teams.
Two
years
ago
we
had
31
teams,
I
guess,
and
we
have
several
local
teams
that
have
not
even
committed
yet
the
field
is
probably
the
strongest
ever
teams
south
carolina
georgia
tennessee.
D
So
we're
really
looking
forward
to
that
and
really
getting
back
into
the
flow
of
things.
So
you
know,
I
think
you
know
our
goal
is
to
be
able
to
to
have
a
major
sports
event
every
couple
of
months.
D
So
you
know,
I
think
we've
got
some
things
in
the
hopper
that
will
be
rolling
out
pretty
soon,
but
I
think,
by
the
end
of
the
month,
we'll
be
having
a
pretty
exciting
announcement.
Also.
A
Great
thanks,
I'm
going
to
step
in
for
corey
here
for
a
few
minutes
he's
in
the
pickup
line,
picking
up
his
daughter.
So
next
up
is
me
anyway.
So
general
managers
report
this
time
around.
It's
just
an
update
on
the
shuttered
venue
operators.
A
So
if
we
are,
if
we're
really
successful
and
lucky,
we
might
get
our
1.6
million
dollar
grant
that
we
applied,
for
which
would
obviously
be
huge
for
last
year's
last
year's
budget,
and
I
don't
imagine
that
shows
up
in
this
year's
budget,
I'm
sure
it's
probably
going
to
show
up
later,
as
we
get
into
fy
22.
C
A
So
far,
we've
pretty
much
hit
everything
that
we're
able
to.
So
we
did
a
lot
of
reimbursement
through
the
county,
with
a
phone
center
that
we
operated
and
with
the
homeless,
shelter
and
vaccination
and
testing
site
scheduling.
So
we've
we've
reimbursed
or
been
reimbursed
or
we're
still
owed
for
a
little
bit
for
a
lot
of
staff
time
over
the
last
year.
But
until
the
potential
infrastructure
bill
passes,
there's
nothing
else
that
we
qualify
for,
but
based
on
the
current
rumors
that
I'm
seeing
around
about.
A
What's
inside
the
infrastructure
bill,
there's
potential
for
significant
money
in
there
for
capital
projects
which
could
eventually
tie
into
the
thomas
wolfe.
A
Svo
nope
all
right
before
I
get
into
upcoming
events,
because
she
has
so
much
to
do
with
them,
she's
on
the
phone
today,
but
marcia
hart
our
long
time
booking
manager.
Here
I
just
want
to
let
everybody
know
she
is
retiring
at
the
end
of
july,
so
her
last
day
is
going
to
be
july.
30Th
and
she's
been
here
marsha.
You
might
need
to
step
in
and
correct
me,
but
I
believe,
22
years,
so
we
wanted
to
say
a
big.
Thank
you
in
a
so
long.
A
I
guess
because
it's
the
last
time
this
group
will
meet
before
she's
gone,
but
big
loss,
big
shoes
to
phil
and
we're
gonna
try
to
start
that
process
sooner
than.
E
E
A
I'm
standing
here
talking
with
him,
you
needed
mike
sorry
about
that
so
I'll
go
into
some
of
our
upcoming
events
here
for
the
next
little,
while,
obviously
we
talked
about
the
cornhole
event.
This
weekend
june
seems
to
be
city
council
related
events
for
us.
So
last
thursday
we
helped
them
kick
off
the
first
of
a
three-part
series
on
reparations.
A
It's
the
truth-telling
speaker
series
is
what
it's
been
dubbed
so
thursday.
This
week
and
thursday
next
week,
you
can
come
in
person
to
the
thomas
wolf
at
6,
pm
or
log
in
and
watch
it
livewebstream
on
youtube.
A
We
have
a
national
speaker,
rinkussen
coming
in
to
be
the
keynote
this
week
for
us.
Logistically
it'll
be
a
really
interesting
event,
so
we'll
have
three
panelists
on
stage
our
keynote
speaker
is
going
to
be
live
from
austin
texas,
then
we'll
have
public
in
the
house,
and
everyone
needs
to
be
able
to
interact
with
one
another
so
we'll
have
through
through
zoom,
through
a
projector
and
all
live
web
stream
and
a
semi
virtual,
hybrid
event,
which
is
going
to
be
really
interesting
to
see
in
in
person
and
then
we're
also
hosting
council
meetings.
A
Really
really
big
concert
announcement
coming
up
at
four
o'clock
today,
so
keep
your
eyes
peeled
for
that
one.
It's
almost
another
guaranteed
sellout
run
for
us
there.
The
fall
is
pretty
well
booked
up.
We've
got
a
good
number
of
concerts
coming
through
everything
from
kenny
g
to
harlem
globetrotters,
billingval
ava
brothers.
Coming
back,
as
some
of
you
know,
a
big
one
that
I
think
has
gone
on
announced
and
on
sale.
Since
we
last
met,
we
announced
three
nights
of
billy
strings
in
the
arena.
A
We
sold
just
under
18
000
tickets
in
17
minutes
for
that
cleaned
out
three
nights:
bang,
bang,
bang,
which
was
great
hoping
to
do
similar
later
this
week.
So
the
fall's
lining
up
really
well.
It
looks
like
we'll
have
two
new
year's
shows
again
at
last
check.
The
symphony
is
still
intending
to
move
forward
with
the
new
year's
show
and
our
arena.
A
New
year's
show
looks
like
our
2020
date
that
we
had
planned
to
host
is
going
to
or
our
20
yeah
2020
concert
that
was
canceled
because
of
coven
just
push
forward
one
year
and
so
we'll
be
hosting
them
in
on
new
year's
and
hopefully
announcing
that
sometime
soon,
so
the
fall's
lining
up
really
well
and
spring's
right
behind
it.
At
this
point,.
A
C
Thanks
chris
appreciate
that
update
it
sound,
that's
it's
kind
of
nice
to
hear
things
getting
back
to
normal.
I'm
excited
to
see
what
the
concert
is
at
4
o'clock
today.
I,
if
anyone
has
old
business,
feel
free
to
interject.
I
do
have
one
thing.
I
want
to
congratulate.
E
C
D
C
Bittersweet
farewell
to
greg
duff
who's.
The
current.
E
C
Chair
and
has
served
this
committee
for
two
terms
now
and-
and
his
term
expires
this
month,
so
this
will
be
greg's
last
meeting
and
greg.
E
E
H
H
I
mean
that
was
sort
of
the
pet
project
that
I
kind
of
took
over
from
mike
burke
and
unfortunately,
we
got
2020
gotten
way
on
that
one,
but
whoever's
going
to
take
the
helm
on
that
one
going
forward,
hopefully
we'll
see
some
progress
and
it
needs
to
be
done
and
it's
such
an
asset
to
the
community
and,
as
is
this
whole
complex,
so
chris
is
doing
a
fantastic
job
and
you
know
where
I
live
chris.
So
if
you
want
to
drop
it
off,
that's
fine,
but
yeah.
D
Hey
greg,
I
just
want
to
thank
you
on
behalf
of
the
sports
commission,
for
your
advocacy
and
also
you
know
your
time
leading
and
volunteering
with
all
the
sports
events
and
as
my
past
chair,
so
just
thank
you
for
all
you've
done
and
continue
to
do
to
promote
asheville
and
buncombe
county
and
all
the
your
events
and
then
the
way
that
you've
also
helped
us
through
covet
and
asking
critical
questions
and
and
being
a
leader
instead
of
a
kind
of
a
rebel.
So
thank
you.
Thank
you
very
welcome.
E
C
Thank
you
so
much
for
your
service
and
look
forward
to
seeing
you
around
I'm
sure
the
last
time
we
run
into
each
other
so
look
forward
to
it.
So,
moving
on
to
new
business,
we
need
to
discuss
the
virtual
meeting
format
how
everyone
feels
about
moving
forward
in
person
august.
We
will
have.
C
But
you
know
we
will
be
back
in
august
first
tuesday
in
august
and
then
to
discuss
and
take
a
vote
as
a
board
whether
we
want
to
pursue
that
option
in
person
or
continue
virtual
for
now
and
I'll
open
up
a
floor
to
any
kind
of
conversation
around
that.
But
we
do
need
to
take
a
vote
at
some
point
and.
A
As
an
update
to
that
cory,
the
city
clerk's
office
recently
sent
out
something
that
they
are
going
to
dictate,
which
groups
get
to
come
back.
First,
oh.
A
Based
on
staff
time
to
my
understanding,
however,
we
they
did
say
that
we
should
still
vote
and
if
our
group
wants
to
come
back
in
person
to
let
them
know-
and
we
might
be
able
to
get
exempted
from
that,
mainly
because
most
of
the
in-person
meetings
are
going
to
be
happening
here.
So
it
would
make
sense
that
our
board
could
also
be
in
person.
A
D
I
think
we
should
I
mean
if
we're
operating
the
arena
at
full
capacity.
D
I
don't
see
a
reason
why
we're
not
meeting
in
person-
I
think
probably
the
sports
commission
board-
will
follow
the
same
suit
in
august
or
actually
we
don't
have
an
august
meeting,
but
coming
out
of
our
summer
break,
we
will
go
full
full
speed
again.
I
just
think
we
need
to
do
that
as
an.
A
A
So
it's
not
a
an
official
vote
per
se,
but
I
do
think
we
should
probably
get
thought
our
opinion
from
at
least
all
the
commission
members
greg
your
choice.
I
guess
on.
If
you
want
to
give
opinion
or
not-
since
you
won't
be
here
technically
in
august,
but
I'm
just
going
to
go
left
to
right
on
my
screen.
I
Opinion,
I
think
it's
a
good
idea
all
around,
especially
for
the
board
members
to
get
together
some
of
us
to
meet
each
other
for
the
first
time.
I
think
it's
valuable.
A
E
A
Good,
too,
all
right
so
I'll
send
that
up
to
the
clerk's
office
and
just
let
them
know
that
we
all
we've
got
unanimous
thoughts
on
feeling
good
going
in
person
and.
A
C
I
also
am
totally
fine
with
it.
We
went
back
to
work
full
time
at
the
chamber
and
the
sort
of
policy
is
if
you're
fully
vaccinated.
C
You
know
come
in,
you
know,
adhere
to
basic
protocol,
but
you
know
once
you're
at
your
desk
or
whatever,
like
you,
don't
have
to
wear
a
mask,
so
that
is
something
else
we'll
have
to
think
about.
But
honestly
it's
on
our
code
system
like
we're
not
checking
people's
ids
or
vaccination
cards
at
the
door
either.
So
just
something
to
keep
in
mind.
People
might
be
sensitive
to
that,
and
but
I'm
also
comfortable.
So
if
you
want
to
say
unanimous
from
our
six
people
that
are
here,
then
go
for
it.
A
We
just
did
the
strongly
recommended
guidance
for
the
governor,
and
I
would
you
know
just
quick
guesstimate,
probably
85
percent
of
the
people
were
were
masked
free
and
I
don't
think
anyone
was
giving
anybody
grief
for
wearing
a
mask.
It
was
you
know
exactly
what
you
would
expect
coming
out
of
pandemic.
Some
people
did
have
them
some
didn't.
We
had
our
staff
fully
masked
at
that
point,
but
decided
this
morning.
A
Actually
that
going
forward
events
starting
tonight
and
on
we're
gonna
follow
the
same
policy
as
the
rest
of
the
city
that,
if
you're
vaccinated,
no
mask,
etc,
etc,
like
you
guys
have
heard
it
plenty
of
other
places,
all
right.
So
next
on
the
list,
cory
is
not
officer,
nominations,
hey.
F
Chris
before
and
occurred
before
we
go
that
one
old
business.
Then
it's
my
obligatory
question
chris
hvac
thomasville.
A
I'm
glad
that
you
asked
every
month
so
we
have
pushed
the
contract
through
for
the
rigging
updates,
so
that
we
can
fix
the
rigging
situation
and
keep
our
folks
out
of
the
attic.
A
We
got
our
quotes
in
on
the
hvac
side
of
the
house
this
morning,
so
we're
pushing
those
through
today
into
our
city
program,
which
is
called
municip
to
route
through
the
city,
so
hopefully
that'll
take
probably
about
a
week
week
and
a
half
and
we'll
be
able
to
greenlight
that
vendor
and
get
that
work
done,
and
everything
looks
on
target
to
be
done
before
mid-august.
At
this
point,
so
we
should
be
well
complete
before
we
get
to
the
first
symphony
date.
A
A
All
right,
so
we
may
have
lost
corey.
I
think
we
talked
about
this
briefly
last
meeting,
but
we're
looking
for
anybody.
That's
willing
to
fill
greg's
shoes,
as
vice
chair
and
officially
need
to
vote.
If
corey
wants
to
continue
his
chair
on
allowing
him
to
continue
his
chair
or
if
anyone
else
would
like
to
step
in
and
offer
their
time
for
a
chair.
A
But
has
anybody
thought
about
it?
Is
there
any
interest
in
vice
chair
or
chair
positions
from
the
commission
group.
E
C
I
you
know,
I
am
happy
to
continue
if
no
one
else
wants
to
do
it,
but
I
have
served
two
years
in
this
role.
I
know
it's
pretty
uncommon,
for
that
I
mean
I
know
covet
had
something
to
do
with
that.
We
didn't
really
meet
for
a
year,
but
I
am
more
than
happy
to
step
aside.
If
someone
wants
to
do
it,
I
think
I
have
two
years
left
on
my
term
and
one
thing's
for
sure
I
don't
want
to
be.
C
I
don't
think
it's
good
practice
for
me
to
be
the
chairman
in
my
last
year.
Certainly
I
think
it'd
be
good
to
have
the
reigns
handed
over
to
someone
else,
but
if
someone
feels
comfortable
doing
it,
this
coming
term
that
I'm
by
all
means
please
speak
up,
and
I
am
not
going
to
fight
you
on
it.
I've
taken
over
the
volunteer
president
of
a
new
charity
that
just
launched
and
I've
got
plenty,
I'm
also
on
sports
commission
with
them
and
I'm
happy
to
serve
as
volunteer
on
this
board.
C
If
someone
else
wants
to
take
a
chair,
it
will
not
hurt
my
feelings,
don't
feel
like
you're
doing
anything,
tour
and
I'm
happy
I'm
happy
to
be
fine
with
that
and
be
satisfied
with
my
two
years.
I've
already
put
in,
but
if
you
need
me
to,
and
no
one
else
really
wants
to
do
it
or
feels
like
they
have
the
time
or
capability
to
do
it,
I
would
suggest
maybe
stepping
in
the
vice
chair
role,
you
know
participating
in
some
of
as
many
meetings
as.
E
C
I
F
Failure
and
and
donna's
offer
should
be
accepted.
C
C
All
right,
well
with
that
I'll,
entertain
a
motion
to
accept
the
nominations
of
board,
chair
b,
cory,
atkins
and
vice
chair
of
donna
bailey
for
the
coming
fiscal
year.
C
C
Well,
I
apologize
well.
Thank
you,
everyone
for
the
vote
of
confidence,
but
I'm
telling
you
right
now.
This
is
this.
Is
it
for
me?
I
don't.
I
can't
do
another
year
after
this,
so
we
need
to
make
sure
we're
building
that
leadership
amongst
the
group
and
people
feel
good
about
moving
forward
next
year.
C
I
would
certainly
appreciate
that,
and
but
thank
you
all
for
your
vote
of
confidence
and
donna.
Thank
you
for
stepping
up
to
participate
as
well
and
big.
C
Is
greg
was
very
active
in
his
time
for
sure
and
and
had
to
take
over
quite
a
few
meetings
from
me
so
just
be
prepared
for
that.
Well,
thanks
everybody!
I
I
I.
C
Sued
through
all
now,
but
it
was
good
seeing
all
of
you
and
hear
from
you,
I
hope
to
see
you
all
in
person
in
august,
I'm
happy
to
go
around
the
room.
If
anybody
has
anything,
they
want
to
add
just
for
the
good
of
the
order
or
community
announcements.
Anything
that's
going
on
in
your
world.
H
C
Okay,
we're
hearing
hearing
none.
I
I'm
I'm
happy
to
end
early
if
y'all
are
and
appreciate
everybody's
time
participation
today
and
I
look
forward
to
seeing
august-
enjoy
the
next
couple
months
hopefully
get
outside
and
enjoy
some
nice
weather.
So
thanks
everybody.
We
appreciate
it.
