Episode 001 of City Scoop featuring Barb Mee in the Transportation Department discussing Complete Streets.
A
I'm
barb
me
I'm
transportation,
planner
in
the
transportation
department
at
the
city
of
Asheville,
Complete
Streets
are
about
designing
streets
for
all
users,
all
ages,
all
abilities
and
making
it
easy
and
comfortable
to
go
along
the
street
and
to
get
across
the
street.
Complete
Streets
are
about
all
users,
they're
about
the
cars
and
the
trucks,
but
they're
also
about
people
walking
people
taking
the
bus
people
riding
their
bike.
So
it's
a
balance
and
we
seek
to
balance
those
users
and
their
comfort
in
the
way
that
we
build
and
operate
our
streets.
A
A
The
cars
and
trucks
are
still
getting
through,
and
people
who
are
walking
along
the
street
or
riding
their
bike
on
the
street
are
so
much
more
comfortable
and
safe.
Doing
that
central
avenue
is
another
good
example
where
it's
not
such
a
big
conversion,
like
college
street,
was
Central.
Avenue
is
pretty
complete.
When
we
started
there
was
a
street
there.
A
There
were
sidewalks
what
we
did
on
Central
Avenue
was
we
added
a
shared
lane
marching
for
bicycles
and
those
are
to
remind
drivers
that
you're
sharing
the
lane
with
bicycles
that
there's
really
not
enough
room
to
pass
a
bicyclist
and
stay
in
your
lane,
and
it
also
reminds
bicyclists
to
stay
where
they're
visible
and
where
they're
away
from
the
door
swing
of
a
car.
That's
parked.
A
Central
Avenue
was
taking
care
of
people
walking
because
there
were
sidewalks
there
and
safe
places
to
cross,
and
it
was
taking
care
of
the
cars
and
the
trucks,
and
now
we've
just
added
that
peace.
I
hope
that
helps
you
understand
a
little
more
about
Complete
Streets
and
what
we
are
doing
to
get
there.
Our
next
project
is
on
livingston
street
will
be
doing
the
design
this
year
and
in
fact
we
have
a
public
meeting
coming
up.
September.
Third,
at
five-thirty
p.m.
in
the
dr.
Wesley
grant
senior
southside
center
down
on
livingston
street.
