journey

an

this
rollout
event
of
the
economic
developers
of
heejung
plan.

out
of
college
was
to
work
for
the
largest
bank
in
Texas
and
then
to
run
the
economic
development
program
in
Austin
Texas.

we
built

think
one
of
the
strongest
economic
development
programs

nation.

from
the
heart.
I
speak
as
a
practitioner,
not
just
as
a
consultant
because
there's
a
big
difference,
I
think
between
a
strategy
that
sounds
great
and

it's
very
difficult.

poverty
rate
has
gone
up
significantly
from
fourteen
percent

just
the
span
of
about
six
years,
the
unemployment
has
reason
to
record
highs.

average
home
value
in
Atlantic
County
has
declined
by

the

fighting
for

interview-
was
the
lack
of
a
local
economic
development
entity
to
take
charge
of
economic
development.
Nowhere
else
what
we've
done
work,
we
found
that
there
was
not
a
local
economic
development,
anything
to
take
responsibility
for
the
economic
prosperity
of
the
region.

me
say
that
during
the
public
input
process,
I
saw
a
lot
of
finger-pointing
a
lot
of
frustration.
All
the
fingers
were
pointed
to
the
state
economic
development
organization.
It
is
not.
The
state's
responsibility
is
from
from
where
I
come
from
to
provide
economic
development
at
the
local
level.
The
state
responsibilities
to
market
the
state
in
allow
communities
counties
to
compete
for
economic
development
and
the
leads
that
are
generated
from
that
marketing.
I
have
to
say
that
New
Jersey
is
the
most
state
centric
economic
development
place
that
I've
ever
encountered.

cannot
decipher
any
local
economic
development
organizations,
maybe,
with
the
exception
of
one
or
two
even
Rhode
Island
has
more
economic
development
organizations
at
the
local
level.
What
you
do
so

important
to
note
that
economic
development

vocal.

always
been
around
the
country,
and
this
is
an
area
where
we
are
starting
from

Zero.

have
to
take
responsibility.

to

and
build
upon

that
if

didn't
strongly
believe

could
