A
A
A
The
night,
still
there
o
say,
does
that.
A
B
Of
course,
our
premier
cemetery
in
this
country
is
Arlington,
but
there
are
over
a
hundred
twenty-five
thousand
Americans
buried
on
foreign
soil,
there's
cemeteries
in
Luxembourg,
Great
Britain
cemeteries
in
Belgium
cemeteries
in
the
Philippines
one
of
the
largest
overseas
in
the
Philippines.
We
have
one
in
mexico
city
from
the
day,
the
mexican
war
back
in
the
18th
46
to
48
and,
of
course,
the
cemeteries
that
we
have
in
France.
B
There
are
11
cemeteries
in
France
that
to
have
our
war
dead,
the
largest
at
the
meuse-argonne
world
war,
one
where
we
buried
many
of
our
soldiers
where
they
fell
and,
of
course,
the
American
Cemetery
Normandy,
which
just
overlooks
the
Omaha
Beach
d-day
invasion.
So
you
can
see
the
beach
itself
in
the
English
Channel.
There
are
men
landed
in
that
cemetery
is
a
Medal
of
Honor
winners.
Our
job
is
a
very
simple
one.
It's
just
to
remember,
and
since
I
did
bring
up
the
cemeteries
overseas,
especially
the
11
in
France.
B
1966
general
former
general
de
gaulle
and
the
president
of
France,
let
Secretary
of
State
Dean
Rusk,
know
in
no
uncertain
terms
that
they
were
pulling
out
of
the
nuclear
agreement
with
NATO,
and
he
also
has
an
aside
said
to
Dean
Rusk,
also
by
the
end
of
this
year.
I
want
all
american
troops
off
French
soil,
Dean
rusks
response
his
classic.
He
turned
to
president
de
Gaulle
and
said:
does
that
include
our
dead
soldiers
in
our
cemeteries?
C
In
more
than
25
years
with
our
sea
services,
I
found
that
I'm
always
a
better
sailor
when
I
have
the
privilege
to
serve
with
marine
soldiers,
airmen
and
coasties.
So
thank
you
for
letting
me
be
with
you
today.
I've
often
had
the
honor
to
serve
with
Marines
during
my
naval
career
I
have
long
observed
that
Marines
have
I
think
the
finest
sense
of
history,
our
Marines
instill
into
every
crew
recruiting
candidate.
C
Our
reverence
for
the
course
history
in
particular,
and
our
nation's
military
history
in
general,
and
that
sense
of
history
is
not
just
an
exercise
and
dates
and
names
and
places,
although
that
is
a
necessary
part,
but
Marines
are
not
alone
in
their
reverence
for
our
American
story.
All
of
our
services
teach
us
that
a
sense
of
history
finds
its
real
purpose
in
the
memory
that
it
creates
in
the
new
service
member.
C
Hopefully,
that
member
carries
with
him
the
duty
of
remembrance
for
the
rest
of
his
life,
those
in
the
Armed
Forces.
Remember
those
who
gave
their
lives
in
such
battles
as
a
sacrifice
for
our
freedom.
They
remember
those
who
fell.
They
remember
those
whose
remains
or
sometimes
only
whose
memory
would
return
to
their
loved
ones
and
hometowns
to
be
mourned
by
those
waiting
for
them.
C
So,
let's
remind
others,
then
what
Memorial
Day
is
for
it's
a
day
of
national,
remembering
it's
that
special
day
set
apart
to
remember
our
fallen
war
debt,
it's
a
day
to
decorate
their
graves
and
monuments
and
the
colors
of
our
country.
It's
a
day,
just
one
out
of
365,
during
which
we
close
our
eyes
and
grateful
prayer
and
raise
our
hands.
An
honorable
salute
to
every
service
member
offered
on
the
altar
of
our
freedom.
