A
A
B
We
honor
these
people
who
gave
their
lives
from
the
army,
the
Navy,
the
Marines,
the
Air
Force,
the
Merchant
Marines
in
the
Coast
Guard.
Some
were
returned
home
and
buried
with
full
military
honors.
Others
are
buried
in
our
cemeteries
around
the
world.
Those
who
remain,
whose
remains
have
month
in
recovery
or
remember
here
and
in
u.s.
monuments
and
memorials
and
foreign
lands
I.
C
Want
to
share
something
that
be
every
year
a
little
less
often
I
saw
this
and
I
was
so
incredibly
moved.
I
want
to
share
this
with
you.
If
I
may,
Air
Force
Major
Leo
forged
his
name
is
Thor's
ness
waited
more
than
six
years
for
the
Medal
of
Honor.
Most
of
us
refer
to
as
the
Congressional
Medal
of
Honor,
which
is
incorrect.
It
is
V
Medal
of
Honor.
C
On
that
day,
Thor
sness
and
his
wingman
had
successfully
taken
out
to
surface
their
missile
sites,
but
the
second
plane
was
hit
by
anti-aircraft
fire,
the
crew
ejected
and
when
a
MIG
17
took
aim
at
the
descending
parachutes,
sourceless
turns
his
f-105
on
the
enemy
jet
and
destroyed
it
with
his
Gatling
gun
after
a
mid-air
refueling
source.
Nice
return
to
the
area
where
the
crew
had
landed
safely,
although
in
enemy
territory.
C
Now
there
were
four
makes
ally,
he
was
outnumbered
and
he
was
almost
out
of
ammo
and
the
target
of
a
missile
barrage
from
below
hoarseness
engaged.
He
took
down
a
second
MIG
and
drove
off
the
rest
again
dangerously
low
on
fuel.
He
saved
another
crew
by
allowing
them
to
refuel
from
a
nearby
tanker,
while
he
from
35,000
feet
essentially
glided
to
the
Royal
side,
airbase
70
miles
away
his
engines
shutting
down,
just
as
he
landed
Lieutenant
Colonel
Forster's
received
his
medal,
a
White
House
ceremony
on
October
19th
1973.
C
Now
you
may
ask
why
such
a
long
delay,
but
just
11
days
after
saving
the
lives
of
the
parachuting
crew
hoarseness,
was
himself
shot
down
by
an
air-to-air
missile
from
a
mig.
It
was
the
beginning
of
an
ordeal
that
would
brutalize
me.
He
wrote
in
his
book
surviving
hell.
He
would
spend
the
next
six
years
at
the
Phaedo
w
enduring
torture.
They
broke
his
back.
A
C
D
Of
these
brave
men
and
women
from
our
own
neighborhoods,
either
volunteered
or
accepted
the
call
to
serve
fully
knowing
the
challenges
and
the
dangers
that
awaited
them,
then
up
to
safety
of
their
home
to
defeat
our
enemies,
ensure
justice
and
fulfill
the
promise
of
safety
and
security
for
our
country
in
the
world.
Our
local
heroes
dedicated
their
lives
not
to
conflict
or
death,
but
to
peace
in
life.
D
D
My
daddy
couldn't
be
here
because
he
lives
so
far
away,
but
I
know
he
wishes
he
could
be.
Since
this
is
such
a
special
day
and
though
you
cannot
meet
him,
I
wanted
you
to
know
all
about
my
daddy
and
how
much
he
loves
me.
So
he
loved
to
tell
me
stories.
He
taught
me
to
ride
my
bike.
He
surprised
me
with
pink
roses
and
taught
me
to
fly
kite.
D
D
He
is
my
shining
star
and
if
he
could
he'd
be
here,
but
heavens
just
too
far,
you
see
he's
an
American
soldier
and
digest
this
past
year,
when
a
roadside
bomb
hit
his
convoy
and
taught
Americans
to
fear,
but
sometimes
when
I
close
my
eyes,
it's
like
he
never
went
away,
and
then
she
closes
her
eyes
and
saw
him
there.
That
day
today,
we
honor
and
remember
the
sacrifices
of
so
many
of
our
great
American
families.
My
gay
me
and
her
mom
by
understanding
that
through
remembrance
America,
will
remain
the
world's
beacon
of
freedom.
