Description
Our fortnightly discussion about all things design in Backdrop CMS.
Agenda (with all discussed links): http://bit.ly/1MRadHF
A
Alright
welcome
viewers
and
attendees
to
the
fortnightly
backdrop,
design
call.
It
is
sep
tember,
10
2015,
and
we
get
together
every
other
week
on
Thursdays
to
talk
about
the
design
related
tasks
in
the
backdrop
project
and
also
around
the
backdrop
product
and
things
like
marketing
and
our
websites
and
all
of
those
sorts
of
things.
Let's
see
pull
up
the
agenda
here.
A
So,
let's
see
we
always
talk
about
backdrop,
the
product
first
and
areas
that
could
use
some
user
experience,
improvements
or
design
improvements,
and
we
have
three
big
meta
issues
for
each
of
these
major
parts
of
backdrop,
including
the
layouts.
You
I,
the
views,
Eli
and
field
you
I,
all
of
which
could
use
some
real
help.
A
A
So
when
you
add
a
new
block,
you'll
be
able
to
find
find
the
block,
as
you
would
like,
find
in
a
few
field
or
a
filter,
or
something
like
that,
rather
than
having
to
scroll
through
all
the
list,
that's
great
and
I'm,
hoping
we'll
be
able
to
get
that
in
before
our
release.
Next
week.
Oh
that's
big
news.
Our
releases
wait
a
week.
A
It's
coming
up
next
Wednesday,
which
is
more
relevant
to
all
the
dev
tests
and
I'll
talk
about
those
in
the
meeting
coming
up
in
an
hour
but
Tom
design-wise,
there's
a
couple
of
design
things
that
I'd
really
love
to
get
in
our
user
experience
things
I'd
love
to
get
in
before
that
date
so
layout
to
you,
I'd
really
kept
that
search
box
in
and
then
Wes.
One
of
the
issues
that
you
have
worked
on,
I
really
love
to
see
in
as
well
via
vertical
tabs
becoming
responsive
issue,
which
is
really
pretty
fantastic.
A
A
And
not
both
times,
that
was
just
hiccups
like
one
time,
job
is
just
crapped
out
and
then
the
other
time
we've
got
this
random
failure
that
pops
up
like
one
out
of
every
20
tests
or
something
like
that
and
and
you've
got
that
one.
Okay,
excellent!
Well,
the
vertical
taps,
responsive
issue
for
people
listening
is
issue.
5
15
and
the
big
metas
for
layouts
you
is
345,
vui
is
930
and
feel
dy
is
779.
A
I
think
mostly
lay
out
your
eyes
got
the
most
issues,
but
it's
not
necessarily
where
the
most
help
is
needed
field.
You
I
there
there's
some
attempts
to
basically
redo
the
entire
field,
ey,
because
the
colonel
eyes
so
difficult,
but
I,
think
those
really
aggressive
kind
of
rewrites
of
things
will
probably
need
to
wait
until
back
up
to
so
we
may
want
to
iterate
more
iteratively,
make
make
some
smaller
changes
and
improve
what
we
have
just
a
little
bit
at
a
time.
A
A
Okay,
so
let's
talk
about
backdrop,
CMS
or
gar
flagship
website,
we've
been
making
a
lot
of
progress
in
this
area.
All
of
jen
has
been
doing
a
lot
of
that
work
and
I'm
not
quite
sure
with
it
then,
but
Wes
I
know
you've
been
doing
some
work
on
the
website
as
well.
I
think
that
some
is
there
anything
that's
currently
in
progress
from
the
fine
modules,
page
or
themes,
or
anything
like
that,
not.
B
C
C
A
A
C
Right
now
is
kind
of
a
disaster.
It's
getting
kind
of
intense
right,
like
I,
think
we
could
we
architects,
some
things
here.
Yeah.
C
Okay,
I'll
tell
I'm
not
sure
I
feel
about
that
I,
like
the
immediacy
of
modules,
themes,
layouts
but
I
think
like
press
kit
in
contact,
I
pull
that
out
without
in
the
footer
yeah.
A
Actually,
there's
been
some
other
people
who
took
the
same
thing.
I
think
doc.
Women
is
of
the
opinion
and
maybe
clonus
that
that
press
kit
should
be
put
into
the
handbook
to
free
up
the
top
level
navigation
I,
like.
C
A
C
A
Yeah,
that's
like
that.
All
great
ideas
and
I
do
think
it's
important
that
most
people
come
into
our
website.
Well
after
I
mean
marketing,
I
think
is,
is
priority
number
one
which
we're
kind
of
failing
at,
like
our
homepage
just
doesn't
have
enough
really
marketing
material
on
it
to
really
sell
backdrop.
But
then,
after
that,
we
should
be
catering
to
our
users
that
are
coming
to
backdrops
in
the
story
to
download
software.
A
Also
speaking
of
marketing
things,
because
so
John
and
I
were
both
supposed
to
speak
at
the
New
England
regional
developer
summit.
But
we
decided
to
divide
and
conquer
well
we're
all
managed
the
release
which
is
next
week
and
she'll
go
and
market
it.
Basically
at
the
conference
and
with
that
free
time,
I'm
hoping
what
I'll
be
able
to
do
is
make
a
video
of
the
like.
What's
new
and
backdrop
1.2,
which
might
be
suitable
for
home,
page
appearance,
school.
A
A
C
B
C
That
you
click
that
and
it
just
goes
to
a
full
screen
video.
So
it's
not
like
you
have
this.
B
C
A
Yeah,
it's
also
this
kind
of
timeline
wise
a
week
ago,
last
year
we
started
backdrop
I'm
sorry,
a
week
ago,
two
years
ago,
which
just
seems
kind.
C
A
You
got
I
guess
that
and
I
mean
I
feel
really
good
that
we're
heading
on
towards
like
their
release.
Third
minor
release,
I
guess
they
should
say
yeah
I
feel
like
our
art.
Our
speed
is
just
great
see,
I'm
going
to
post
them
these
links
to
the
agenda
so
that
people
would
want
to
follow
along
the
agenda.
Link
should
be
available
and
I
will
so
that
we
have
this
stuff.
Video.
B
A
Okay
and
then
this
link
come
on
put
that
in
me,
too:
okay,
okay,
cool
yeah,
the
the
site
come
along
really
nicely
the
modules
themes
and
layout
searches
like
we
have
a
lack
of
some
information
still,
so
that's
made
it
a
little
bit
too
poor,
Wes
and
others
to
actually
do
the
theming,
but
we're
working
on
the
building
that
out
especially
things
like
making
it.
So
you
can
sort
by
relevancy
or
sort
by
popularity.
But
right
now
our
usage
statistics
or
a
little
bit
they're
a
little
bit
fort.
They
haven't
been
collecting
properly.
A
Okay,
let's
see
here
a
backdrop,
swag
okay,
dragon
t-shirts,
so
we
want
to
have
dragon
t-shirts
or
hoodies
before
bad
camp,
which
is
October,
20th
and
so
bad
camp
is
an
important
date
for
backdrop,
because
it's
the
first
ever
dedicated
like
backdrop
day
we're
going
to
have
an
entire
day
of
backdrop
before
bad
camp.
That
will
be
everything
backdrop
so
we'll
have
talked
about
layouts
I'll
talks
about
theming
talks
about
all
kinds
of
stuff,
exactly
who's,
giving
the
talks
and
what
talks
Lazar.
Why
not
sure
yet?
A
A
A
So
this
playful
drop
is
pretty
cool.
It
kind
of
has
a
kind
of
dog
like
right.
Wait.
We
tried
to
get
him
to
do
a
dragon
that
was
kind
of
like
a
like
an
on
an
emblem
that
you
would
see
or
a
coat
of
arms.
I
was
a
little.
C
A
A
A
Cool
yeah
that
this
was
the
I,
don't
think
that
he's
done!
This
is
round
two,
and
this
was
the
first
attempt
at
this
kind
of
thing,
and
maybe
if
we
could
get
him
to
make
it
a
little
less
roadkill
e,
maybe
by
making
the
front
paws
go
forward
instead
of
out
to
the
side
and-
and
maybe
maybe
you
know,
get.
B
A
So
I,
you
know
I'm
totally
in
favor
of
reducing
the
the
colors
I
think
right
now,
if
we
did,
maybe
some
of
these
would
work
better
than
others,
but
we
might
be
able
to
get
away
with
like
a
two
color
prints
on
a
gray
t-shirt
that
was
the
black
and
then
the
white
of
his
eye.
Good,
a
backdrop
in
white
the
word
backdrop.
C
A
So
yeah,
so
this
one
I'd
like
to
see
ya
I'm
glad
you're
at
you're,
totally
on
board
with
that
I'd
like
to
say,
I,
wouldn't
go
a
little
bit
further.
Mm-Hmm
seated
drop
this
one's
kind
of
kind
of
similar
to
the
one
where
he's
lying
down,
where
you
kind
of
seeing
the
back
of
them
a
little
bit
more
gem
likes
this
one
from
the
perspective
of
putting
on
the
back
of
a
hoodie
lynched,
and
then
some
of
these
other
ones
I
think
they
kind
of
go
down
on
him
a
little
bit.
C
A
C
Eggs
would
love
it
too.
Oh
yeah.
A
This
is
a
best
of
the
ship
Oh
drop,
which
kind
of
looks
like
a
price
dog.
We
had
a
lot
of
issues
around
his
rump.
You
got
here
like
his
rump,
really
kind
of
sticks
out
in
a
weird
awkward
way,
but
we
worked
on
fixing
some
of
them
like
this
is
the
second
round
of
playful
drop.
Previously
his
rump
was
kind
of
sticking
out
and
then
what
we
asked
his
like
to
be
moved
back
so
that
it
all
kind
of
is
warning.
C
A
B
C
B
A
B
Really
tell
yeah.
A
We're
at
all,
really
great
points,
I'm
going
to
totally
take
this
feedback
back
to
mark
because
we
haven't
sent
him
back
feedback.
It's
been
like
almost
a
week
now,
and
that
was
already
browned
too,
because
we
weren't
really
sure
what
to
say
to
him.
But
these
are
all
great
great
ideas,
a
great
feedback,
let's
see,
and
then
there's
this
last
one
trotting
drop
or
he's
just
gotten.
A
A
C
A
So
I
don't
know
we'll
see
about
some
of
these
I
think
for
sure.
We'll
do
the
seated
drop
way
he's
looking
back
over
his
shoulder.
Playful
drop
with
a
second
as
another
one
of
these
where,
where
his
wings
are
down
instead
of
up,
but
there
were
some
issues
with
that
hang
on.
Let
me
pull
off
jen
sketches
here.
Jen
actually
did
some
really
amazing
dragon
pictures.
Oh
so!
Well,
let's
see
so
yeah,
so
this
is
already.
This
is
how
we
got
the
second
iteration,
which
looks
pretty
much
exactly
gender.
A
This
is
a
different
one
where
she
put
the
wings
down
instead
of
up,
but
then
a
mark
said
that
when
he
did
this,
one
that
it
may
drop,
look
like
he
was
cowering
or
afraid,
and
that
was
a
good
point
that
we
didn't
think
we
would.
She
also
did
this
one,
which
was
a
front
on
like
trying
to
get
on.
C
A
B
A
Fair,
ok,
there
we
go
ok,
unplug
this
last
image.
Oh
ok,
I'm,
not
sure
that
that's
actually
productive
to
the
conversation,
but
you.
A
Ok,
so
those
are
those
are
some
options
and
Danny.
Those
really
sing
to
you
guys
like
that,
would
be
an
awesome
t-shirt.
I
mean.
Obviously
it
sounds
like
the
the
week
that
design
them
with
jen
the
agenda
of
the
dragon
flying
seems
like
a
possibility.
I
like
the
wings
on
the
back.
That's
a
great
idea:
mm-hmm
I
winds
in
the
back
a
coat.
A
C
A
A
A
Let's
see
more
stickers
of
the
word
mark
I
could
order
some
more
of
those
we've
still
got
like
I,
don't
like
a
hundred
of
those
left
and
they're,
not
as
popular
as
the
Dragons,
but
it
would
still
be
good
to
have
them
so
that
people
know
what
our
logo
is
in
addition
to
the
dragon,
let's
see
other
things
besides,
swag
slides,
Jen's
gonna
give
your
slides
a
trial
run
Wes
at
not
really
trial,
run
it's
gonna,
be
it's
gonna,
be
a
keynote.
B
A
She'll
probably
be
able
to
tell
us
next
week,
I
think
she's,
probably
working
on
it
now,
as
as
she's
traveling.
Let's
see,
let's
see
online
branding
assets-
oh
yeah!
This
has
been
coming
up
for
a
while
and
dairy
since
you're
here
this
week,
but
that,
if
you
have
any
feedback
on
this,
that
we
want
to
set
up
a
set
of
banner
images
that
we
can
use
for,
like
the
background
of
our
twitter
page
and
like
getting
the
top
of
the
facebook
page
and
stuff
like
that,
I
am
right
now.
A
A
C
A
Well,
lets
on
the
agenda.
It
is
in
the
agenda.
It's
a
backdrop:
online
branding
assets,
background
images
for
facebook,
twitter
and,
like
a
pull-up
bar
there,
we
go
watch
actually
part
yeah
as
you
could
you
put
the
links
there
too
yeah
to
our
current
pages
and
stuff,
like
that,
like
you,
take
a
look
at
this.
A
C
You
know
I
was
kind
of
thinking
of
using
nature
photography
in
some
way.
You
know
and
like
contrasting
that,
with
this
stark
geometry
that
we
have
going
on
so
mean
that,
like
because
nature
is
fractals
right
like
that's,
where
I
got
my
inspiration
from
butts,
a
very
abstracted
version
of
a
factual
that
people
normally
realize
is
a
fractal.
You
know
and
working
with
nature's
excellent
backdrop,
mm-hmm
so
I
think
if
you'd
be
open
to
like
adding
photography
to
part
of
the
identity
system.
A
I
think
I
think
we
should
be
open
to
it.
I,
don't
think
that
I
mean
we
have
to
make
sure
we
don't
get
too
fractured
yeah
for
sure,
but
yeah
I
think
that's
a
good
idea.
I
think
it
also
might
be
our
identity
right
now
is
is
kind
of
cold
and
I.
Think
that
maybe
it's
not
yeah
photography
might
actually
bring
it
into
kind
of
a
more
approachable,
I.
Think.
A
A
Quandary
like
we
want
to
redo
the
the
way
that
filters
are
configured,
for
example,
and
we're
not
sure
if
we
should
be
using
dialogues
or
vertical
tabs,
for
example,
actually,
I
think
what
we're
trying
to
do
in
that
case
is
we're
actually
trying
to
we've
all
kind
of
decided
that
vertical
chaps
are
not
a
great
fit
and
we're
trying
to
flip
them
over
to
dialogues,
but
we're
not
totally
sure
that
there's
a
link
to
that
in
the
issue,
its
issue,
our
assignment
in
the
agenda
issue,
1032
and
I-
think
there
are
some
screenshots
in
there
of
what
kind
of
idea
different
approaches
that
we've
tried.
A
Although
there's
not
a
great
screenshot
of
what
it
looks
like
currently,
but
it
basically
is
the
Drupal
7
like
interface,
where
there's
but
there's
vertical
tabs
and
one
tab.
/
filter
that
you're
configuring
and
what
we're
thinking
about
doing
instead
is
changing
that
to
a
table
of
all
of
the
filters
that
you
have
configured
and
then
an
edit
link
next
to
each
one.
That
opens
up
a
dialog,
so
kind
of
a
shift
there
I'm
not
actually
sure
if
the
usability
will
be
improved
or
not.
But
the
page
will
be
simplified
quite
a
bit.
A
Much
I
know
yeah,
there's
a
lot
going
on
that
page,
a
lot
of
action
so
anyway,
the
human
interface
guidelines,
not
a
real
pressing
need,
but
would
be
great
just
to
have
that
stuff
kind
of
formalized
and
that
the
real
challenge
about
that
is
that
it's
not
just
documenting
it,
because
we
actually
need
to
figure
out
what
actual
best
practices
are,
and
that
can
be
really
challenging.
When
you
get
into
the
reality
of
how
complex
backdrop
is
so
something
to
think
about
for
long
term.

You
know
one
thing:
this
is
only
and
generally.
A
C
A
What's
one
thing
that
I
was
thinking
might
be
nice
to
be,
if
I'm,
if
we
put
some
styling
effort
or
design
efforts
into
the
menu
blocks,
so
right
now,
every
menu
gets
block
already.
You
have
and
I'm
not
quite
sure
how
far
we
want
to
take
this,
but
we
can
make
it
either
an
option
or
it
could
just
automatically
do
it
that
when
you
get
small
enough,
it
goes
down
to
hamburger
or
something
like
that
I'm
and
how
far
we
take.

A
A
A
A
For
shipping
backdrop
with
a
default
front
page
layout-
and
the
suggestion
is-
is
that
a
front
page
layout
these
days
almost
always
is
a
single
column.
The
it's
really
uncommon
to
have
like
a
two
column.
You
know
like
where
you
put
like
the
latest
posts
in
the
sidebar
unless
your
plug
right,
there's.
A
You
do
any
more
like
the
homepage.
Now
is
a
real
like
streamlines.
You
read
through
its
and
there's
no
jet.
You
know
darting
all
over
the
place
for
your
village,
it
just
you
read
through
it
top
to
bottom,
and
so
there's
a
suggestion
that
we
make
home
page
out
of
the
box,
that
is
a
single
column
home
page
and
that
we
ship
with
something
that
would
make
doing
a
hero
image
really
easy.

So
it's
kind
of
an
interesting
idea,
though,
like
dude,
do
we
want
to
make
it
so
that
blocks
could
have
background
images?
For
example,
I,
don't
really
know,
but
something
something
to
think
about.
I
mean
we
could
also
make
it
blocks,
become,
feel
the
bowl
which
should
happen
anyway,
then
you
could
have
an
image
that
is
attached
to
a
block,
but
you'd
still
need
to
do
the
manual
work
of
turning
that
image
into
a
background
image.
You
know,
because
you
probably
want
to
do
that
with
CSS
and
not
what
an
image
tag
on
the
page.
