From YouTube: Backdrop CMS: a LTS version of D7 on steroids (Everything you wanted from D7 w/o the D8 overhead)

Perhaps you currently own or support Drupal 7 sites, and you don't see Drupal 8/9 as a good fit for them moving forward. Maybe you are simply happy with Drupal 7, and for whatever reason you are not ready to make the move any time soon; at the same time, you may be concerned about the fact that Drupal 7 will become EoL by the end of 2021. If you see yourself in all these cases, then this session is for you!
Join me to find out how Backdrop is like Drupal, as well as how it differs. Lets discuss about why Backdrop is viewed as the continuation of Drupal 7 (a long-term support version of it if you like), while at the same time comes packed with many of the features that Drupal 8 has to offer + many new, unique features. I personally call it "D7 on steroids", as it comes with features and sensible options out of the box, which save site builders time. It also includes many admin UI fixes and improvements that make working with it less annoying :)
I plan for this to be a hybrid presentation/demo + open discussion; happy to discuss all the why's and the how's, so feel free to interrupt and ask anything you want to know about Backdrop CMS.
The Backdrop community has been very busy working on the CMS since 2015 when we forked from Drupal 7, and I plan to showcase all the new features and the UI/UX improvements we've added over the years.

anything

decision
to
make

jump

upgrading

sites
to
Drupal,

potentially.

find
another
solution
which
would
be
maybe
moving
away
from
Drupal
together.

we
realized

would
be
a
pretty

early

backdrop
CMS
came
to
be
back
in
2013,
so
backdrop,
CMS
is
basically
a
fork
of
Drupal
and
everything
that
I
have
as
resources.

problem
with
people
that
were
using
Drupal
7
for
and
previous
versions
for
a
really
long
time
was
that
at
some
point
it
was
decided
that
Drupal
age
will
shift
it's
the
technology
that
is
being
built
on
it
started
the

idea
was
that
it
would
start
using
synchrony.
It
will
be
composer
based
and
this
sort
of
like
split
the
community
into
not
literally,
but
there
were
people
that
thought
that
this
was
great
news
and
somebody
that
did
not
work
on
that
change.
For
various
reasons.

drupal

not
hit

yet

it's
basically

of
Drupal

was
still
in
the
technology

in
code

people
and
the
user
interface,
so
people

feel
familiar
if
they
have
been
working
with
Drupal
7
when
they
switch
to
but
rock.

our

by

way
to
maintain
the
old
way
of
working
supportively
for
us
and
our
customers.

is

backdrop:
CMS
is
for
small
to
medium
sized
businesses,
nonprofits
and
educational
institutions
generally
for
people
that
have
budget
constraints,
that
is
to
say
that,
because
boxiness
is
essentially
Drupal.

to
build
more
complicated
enterprise
sites,
nothing
is
stopping
different
doing
that
key
differences
are
that
bat-rope
values,
the
need
of
the
editor
or
the
content,
editor

site
builder,
the
architect
or
over
the
needs

developer.

skills

develop
the
code

funding,

you

push
force

features

direction
of
the
software
in
a
certain
direction,
then
that's
what's

personally
this
is
my
personal
opinion.

felt
like
the
the
future
of
Drupal
was
being
driven
by
by
specific
needs
and
focusing
on
enterprise,
which
was
basically
the
opposite
of
what
backup
is
focusing
on.

we've
done
is
we
based
our
leadership
in
something
that
is
called
a
project
management
meeting,
and
this
is
what
the
Apache
Software
public
project
was
using
to
run,
make
the
decisions
basically.
So
this
is
what
we
have
forward
as
well.
It
is
a
wide
range
of
people
and
we're
looking
to
expand
that
basically
Nate
and
Jen
we're
the
founders
of
the
back
shop,
but
eventually
more
people
joined
from
the
community
for
different
reasons,
mainly
because
they
were
contributing,
but
also
because
we
are
looking
to
be
diverse.

core
committees,
but
we
are
extending
and
we're
looking

more

the
plan
is
that,
although
now
that
project
management
committees

people,

we
have
four

the
release
cycle
in
our
roadmap,
so
so
one
of
the
first
things
that
we've
done
early
on
was
switched
to
semantic
versioning.
So
we
use
the
same
scheme
in
versions
as
Drupal
8.
Does
we
have
major
minor
and
patch
releases
and
there's
more
information
on
how
our
branch
management
works,
but
the
most
important
thing
is
the
timeline.

I'm
going

focus
here:
real
quick,
so
every
port
month
performance
at
the
15th
of
January,
May
and
September.
There
is
a
scheduled
release
of
fact
repent
for
the
past
5
years,
we
have
been
very
diligent
with
this,

every
release
was
released
on
time
as
scheduled
soon
as
soon
as
so.
This
is
today
is
May
1st,
and
usually
that's
that
that
means
it's
15
days
before
the
next
release
of
backdrop,
usually
15
days
before
it's
released
two
weeks
before
it's
released,
we
have
a
feature
freeze.

in

we
try
to
iron
out
any
details
about
the
new
features
that
ended
up
in
the
landed
new
release.
Once
the
new
release
is
out,
we
also
give
it
some
time
if
there's
critical,
bugs
that
have
been
introduced
on
how
we

release,
we
roll
out
new
patch
releases
fixes
and
new
features
are
introduced
into
minor
releases,
so
I'll
go
to
the
web
map
a
little
bit
later
in
this.

exciting

during

first

basically
in
the
version
number

would
make
the
next
major
release
batch

about
when

need
for

a
backdrop
version

would

we
wanted
to
introduce
API
changes

make
the

need
for

do

you

is
that
the
structure
of
the

has
changed
to
follow
the

pattern

adopted

been
moved

so

profiles,

be
moved

this
allows
you
to

feature
that
we
have
been
consistently
adding
throughout
the
admin
interface
in
backtrack.

time

is,
we
are
improving
the
user
interface
as
much
as
we
can,
where
possible,
and
one
of
one
of
the
mentalities
that
we
try
to
bring.
Is
that
place
everything
where
people
expect
to
find
them?

of
the
things
that
we
have
been
finding
cumbersome
to
work
with
enterprise,
this
amazing,
gradual,
granular,
fine-grained
permission
system
which
allows
you
to
tweak
and
fine-tune
the
permissions
of
your
site's
down
to
different
groups
of
people
and
what
they
do.
But
if
you
go
to
the
actual
permissions
by
its
permissions,
this
page
tend
to
be
like
shoots
and
the
more
modules
and
features
in
keep
adding
the
more
the
more
complicated
this
becomes
to
manage
and
remember
and
navigate
through.

to

great
feature
that
has
been
added
since
the
early
stages
of
development
of
backdrop
is
the
project
browser.

normally,

you
were
building
a
website
with
Drupal
7
and
currently
would
replace
the
options
that
you
would
have
would
be
in
Drupal
7
to
go
to
the
doctor
download
the
module
that
you
would
like
to
install
it
into
the
codebase
and
then
go
through
the
process
of
enabling
that
module
on
your
site
in
same
Drupal
8.
This
changed
with
the
introduction
of
composer,
so
people
can
do
that
by
that
way
now
and
they
get
automated
and
make
things
a
bit
faster.
But
that
requires
a
higher
level
of
knowledge
for
developer
skills.

we

done
in

add

module.

we
have
changed

of
the
menu
items

instead

modules,

it
functionality

why
that
