From YouTube: Backdrop CMS: Date Formats
Description
This is a short video on how to create custom date formats, customize the "submitted by" date/author format, and use a simple contrib module called Date/Time Format Help to make the process a little easier.
A
Hi,
my
name
is
tim
erickson,
I'm
st
paul
tim
on
the
internet,
and
my
company
triplo
has
a
website
called
simplo
that
provides
hosted
backdrop,
cms,
starter
kits
tutorials
and
support,
and
we
are
sponsoring
this
video
today
on
date
formats
or
changing
the
author
date
format
on
your
site.
So
a
really
common
problem
on
bankruptcms.org
is
this
default
author
date
format.
A
People
want
to
display
this
in
different
ways,
either
more
of
a
european
format
or
they
want
to
get
rid
of
the
time
or
they
want
to
put
the
author
in
front
of
the
date.
How
do
you
do
that
seems
like
it
should
be
straightforward
and
it
isn't
that
difficult,
but
it's
hard
enough
that
a
little
video
couldn't
hurt.
Basically
a
backdrop
comes
with
three
different
date
formats
and
that's
just
the
date
format
alone
that
excludes
the
author
part
that
we'll
talk
about
that
later
and
you
can
find
the
three
different
formats
that
backdrop
comes
with.
A
This
is
the
medium
there's,
a
long,
medium
and
short
version
of
the
date,
but
you
can
also
create
custom
versions.
You
go
here
under
configuration,
regional
and
language
settings
and
then
you
go
date
and
time
formats
and
again
right
away,
we'll
see
the
long
date,
the
medium
date
and
the
short
date,
and
we
can
see
today's
date
in
each
one
of
those
formats.
So
we
see
what
they
look
like
and
we
have
the
option
to
add
our
own.
A
A
common
use
case
for
me
is
to
create
a
date
format
that
is
a
short
date
or
date
only
yeah
short
date.
Only
so
I'm
gonna
do
that
and
hit
eight
to
add
date,
format,
I'm
gonna,
say
short
date
only
and
what
you
do
are
you're
using
a
php
code
which
is
super
flexible
and
allows
you
to
do
lots
of
different
things.
A
A
Actually,
let's
do
the
j,
because
the
j
has
the
the
date,
but
without
the
leading
zero,
so
we've
got
mj
and
we
can
see
right
over
here
as
we
start
typing
it.
It'll
show
you
the
example
of
today's
date,
with
the
format
that
you're
using
I'm
going
to
jump
back
to
the
php
to
find
the
year-
and
I
look
here
year
and
probably
going
to
do.
Capital
y
is
what
we
want
there.
We
go
so
now,
we've
got
october
5th
and
I'm
going
to
go
ahead
and
add
a
date
format.
A
Now
I
just
found
out
about
a
little
module
to
sort
of
help
make
this
just
a
little
bit
easier.
If
you
go
to
the
list
modules
page,
I've
already
installed
the
module,
I
haven't,
enabled
it,
but
it's
a
little
module
called
date
time
format
helper
by
the
way
here
is
the
the
page
on
backdropcms.org.
A
This
module
is
brought
to
us
on
behalf
of
power
by
and
maintained
by
john
franklin.
So
thanks
to
john
franklin
for
this
anyways,
if
we
go
back
and
we
enable
that
module
and
then
we
go
to
create
a
new
date
format
and
I'm
going
to
go
quickly,
add
date
format.
A
A
So
I
want
to
go
month
and
I
want
to
see
that's
an
f
f
and
I'm
going
to
do
the
leading
the
date
with
a
leading
zero
this
time.
So
I
go
under
day
space,
lowercase
d,
comma
and
let's
do
the
year
this
time,
but
only
two
digits
we're
gonna
drop
the
two
zeros,
so
we're
just
gonna
do
21.!
That's
a
lowercase
y!
A
There
we
go
so
we've
got
not
very
eloquent,
but
not
good
enough,
and
I'm
just
going
to
do
long
month
is
the
machine
backdrop
would
have
made.
Oh
here's
the
actually.
We
can
just
click
on
that.
That's
the
the
suggested
machine
name,
but
we
could
add
anyone.
So
now,
we've
got
a
total
of
five
date
formats.
A
Now,
how
do
we
take
and
modify
this
using
those
every
content
type
if
we
go
structure,
content
types
and
we're
looking
at
posts
has
the
option
to
to
modify
well
first
of
all
to
decide
whether
or
not
you
want
to
show
the
the
author
and
date
information.
You
can
turn
that
off.
A
If
you
have
it
on,
it
has
a
default
format
using
some
tokens,
and
this
is
the
medium
token,
the
medium
date
token,
along
with
the
token
for
the
author,
and
if
you
click
on
browse
available
tokens
and
you
go
into
the
content
and
look
for
date
created,
you
can
find
alternate
tokens
that
you
can
use,
including
the
ones
for
the
custom
versions
that
we
just
created
today.
So
I'm
going
to
take
this
this
custom,
one
basically
just
copy
that
and
replace
the
date.
A
Also,
I'm
going
to
move
the
author
in
front
and
I'm
going
to
say
well,
I'm
just
going
to
type
this
out.
Node
node,
author
and
I'm
gonna
say:
buy,
buy
node
author
on
and
then
we'll
delete
this
here
at
the
end,
I'll
go
ahead
and
save
this
go
to
the
front
page.
A
There
we
go,
it
says,
buy
admin
on
october
4th,
so
it's
using
our
format
and
we've
switched
it
around.
So
the
last
thing
I'm
going
to
show
you
is
another
place
where
you're
going
to
use
date
formats
and
that's
in
views.
If
we
go
to
the
view
for
promoted
content.
This
that's
this
view
here,
and
this
is
right
now
displaying
a
teaser
for
each
blog,
post
and
or
actually
each
piece
of
content.
A
If
we
go
to
views
and
we
go
to
this
particular
view
and
we
get
rid
of
the
teaser
and
say
instead,
let's
do
fields
and
if,
if
you
haven't
worked
with
views
before-
and
this
is
a
little
confusing
look
for
another
video
that
we
hope
to
make
in
the
future,
getting
you
started
on
views.
But
for
the
purposes
of
this
we've
said,
don't
show
us
a
teaser
show
as
fields
and
then
right
below.
It
says
which
fields
we
don't
have
any
so
I'm
going
to
hit
add
I
want
the
title
of
the
blog
post.
A
And
I'm
not
I'm
going
to
get
rid
of
the
label
for
that
and
hit
apply,
that's
it
and
then
I'm
going
to
add
a
date
created
or
a
date,
and
if
we
look
down
here
it
says
which,
which
date
field
do
we
want
to
put,
and
we
want
the
post
date.
The
date
the
the
post
was
posted,
we
hit
add,
and
it
gives
us
a
I'm
going
to
also
get
rid
of
the
label
for
this,
and
it
gives
us
a
whole
bunch.
