Towson, MD - The walls came tumbling down as long-vacant buildings were demolished to make way for a new Walmart Supercenter in the Liberty Plaza shopping center in Randallstown. Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz joined County and State legislators, Walmart and Centro Properties Group U.S. officials, and community leaders to celebrate the construction milestone for the 160,000 square foot store.

The Walmart Supercenter will bring 350 new jobs to Randallstown and will include a full grocery, bakery, deli, pharmacy, and outdoor living department. The new building will replace a strip of long-vacant stores at the rear of the shopping center at Liberty and Brenbrook Roads. The store is scheduled to open in fall 2012.

"Walmart is a long-awaited addition to the heart of Randallstown's commercial corridor, complementing a mix of local businesses and national retailers such as Marshall's, Sonic and Home Depot," stated Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz. "Walmart's confidence in Randallstown will help spur other national stores and restaurants to take a fresh look at the Liberty Road corridor as a great place to do business."

"It's been a long wait, so it is especially gratifying to celebrate this milestone in the construction of the Randallstown Walmart," said Baltimore County Councilman Ken Oliver.

A full 97% of construction and demolition debris will be recycled. Metal beams will be re-forged and stone will be crushed for use in other construction projects. Brick, block and other metals will be sorted and recycled, much like residential recycling.

Mr. County Executive, this has been a long time coming Walmart to randallstown. We talked about the significant to this project and why it's more than just another retail outlet, obviously.

We're really pleased that Walmart, who is the largest retailer in the world, has chosen randallstown as the next site for their latest super center, and this will not only provide great services to the residents of randallstown. It will also help us attract national retailers because they follow where Walmart chooses to locate and if it's good for Walmart other businesses recognize it's going to be good for them too, and we know there's a lot of good and randalls down, and this is a great symbol.

It's not only just a great store, but it's a great symbol showing a millions, millions of dollars of investment creation of 350 jobs, all good happy day for randallstown. Sometimes when things get torn down, good things come in its place and that's what's happening here. You.

Know a lot of people who are watching this may not be familiar with the randallstown community. I've heard you talk quite a bit about the demographics and the education level in the area that make it so attractive to a national retailer. Can you sort of share that with folks who may not be familiar with this community? Well, one of.

The things that we were working with Walmart to do is to recognize that the liberty road card, or has some of the highest educational and economic demographics in the entire cow. So this is really a good example where they are listening to our message when we show them these statistics, and obviously this is just the start- we're going to keep fighting here and focusing here to make sure that we have the quality businesses that the residents here deserve. You councilman Oliver: this has been a passion of yours since the day you were elected talk a little bit about what it means to your community to have this retailer finally begin to knock walls down and know that it's going to happen. What.

It really means is that we're having some redevelopment done on Libby Road this national chain, other stores will follow it. If you look around the county around the state around the nation, certain stores follow all mod, and hopefully the other stores will come here also, and it also means we get in 350 jobs, which is very important to our community.
