A
Welcome
to
another
edition
of
ask
Jim
Smith.
Our
first
question
today
comes
from
David
in
cockeysville.
David
wants
to
know
why
Baltimore
County
does
not
include
household
alkaline
batteries
in
its
hazardous
waste
recycling
program
David
the
manufacturers
years
ago
deleted
mercury
from
the
alkaline
batteries
and,
as
a
result,
the
batteries
no
longer
are
classified
as
hazardous
waste
material,
so
you
can
actually
dispose
of
them
in
your
general
trash,
but
I.
Thank
if
your
concern
for
the
environment
gives
us,
and
it
gives
me
another
chance
to
talk.
A
Recycling
and
I
want
to
remind
everybody
that
Baltimore
County
began
single-stream
recycling
on
februari.
First,
you
can
put
out
all
those
bottles
and
cans
and
all
those
extra
things
that
you
didn't
used
to
be
able
to
recycle
with
your
papers
once
a
week
be
picked
up
once
a
week.
Don't
have
to
store
it.
Just
don't
use
plastic
bags
I,
don't
care
what
color
they
are.
Don't
use
those
recycle
those
at
your
grocery
stores.
So
David
thanks
for
your
question,
thanks
for
giving
me
the
opportunity
to
remind
everybody
again
of
single-stream.
A
Our
second
question
comes
from
frank
and
northern
Baltimore
County
Frank
wants
to
know
when
the
construction
on
York
Road
north
of
the
beltway
is
going
to
be
completed
Frank.
Actually,
a
lot
of
people
wanted
to
know
that
and
they've
made
a
lot
of
progress,
particularly
recently,
but
there
will
be
a
finished
product.
We
hope
by
April
what
happened.
A
Everything's
done
pretty
much
except
some
brickwork
herbs
and
some
permanent
pavement
markings
and
we
that
the
bad
weather
really
prevented
them
from
doing
some
of
that
work,
when
the
weather
warms
they'll
be
able
to
do
that,
the
job
will
be
finished.
It'll
be
great
when
it's
finished.
In
fact
it's
a
much-improved
right
now,
but
they
are
moving
forward.
April
is
the
target
for
completion
of
that
job,
and
thanks
for
your
question,
our
final
question
comes
from
karen
in
perry
hall.
A
Karen
wants
to
know:
has
the
county
considered
putting
a
flashing
traffic
light
on
honey,
go
Boulevard
in
front
of
Joppa
view
elementary
school?
Actually,
Karen.
We've
studied
this
issue
a
good
bit
10
years
ago.
We
did
a
study
and
then
we
updated
that
study,
just
in
the
last
couple
of
years
to
see
the
impact
of
those
flashing,
yellow
lights,
and
regrettably,
it
indicates
that
there
is
no
appreciable
safety
enhancement
as
a
result
of
having
the
flashing
lights
so
really
Baltimore
County
hasn't
installed
any
new
flashing,
yellow
lights.
A
Our
traffic
engineers
are
working
with
the
school
system
and
with
the
stay
at
the
top
of
view
elementary
to
see
if
there
are
ways
that
they
can
improve
traffic
safety
by
making
some
changes
with
regard
to
parking,
making
some
changes
with
respect
to
turn
the
rights
allowing
you
to
turn
make
make
certain
turns
so
there
there
are
some
efforts
to
to
try
to
improve
the
situation
for
Joppa
view
elementary
I.
Thank
you
for
your
concern
and
your
interest,
and
that
concludes
another
edition
of
ask
Jim
Smith.
