Description
Baltimore County Jim Smith and Governor Martin O'Malley visit Amethyst at UMBC's Business Incubator and discuss how the Jobs Creation Tax Credit, recently passed by the Maryland General Assembly, will help small businesses grow in Baltimore County and Maryland as a whole.
A
Hello,
we're
here
at
umbc's,
business
incubator.
Could
you
tell
us
a
little
bit
about
how
small
businesses
that
are
here
are
helping
drive
new
jobs
in
this
economy?
Well,.
B
Actually
we're
here
to
really
see
the
it's
part
of
a
jobs
across
maryland
and
I'm
very
proud,
quite
frankly,
that
the
governor
picked
baltimore
county
to
really
kick
this
program
off.
We
were
at
randallstown
high
school
and
we
looked
at
a
lot
of
the
magnet
and
ap
classes
where
they're
doing
really
just
technologically
cutting
edge
stuff,
which
leads
us
into
the
incubator
here
at
umbc,
because
that
that
this
is
open
to
companies
like
amethyst
technologies
that
we're
visiting
today.
C
This
company
started
from
just
two
people
about
in
2007,
they've
now
grown
to
20
and
they're,
going
to
double
again
by
the
end
of
this
year,
and
they
won't
be
one
of
those
companies.
That's
able
to
avail
themselves
of
the
new
jobs
creation
tax
credit
that
we
just
passed
in
the
maryland
general
assembly.
So
this
business
incubator,
here
at
university
of
maryland,
baltimore
county,
is,
has
been
a
tremendous.
C
Creator
of
small
businesses
and
innovative
businesses
that
might
not
have
started
and
might
not
have
grown
as
quickly
weren't,
not
for
the
support
they
receive
here
from
county
government
from
state
government
from
university
of
maryland
baltimore
county.
So
this
company
has
people
that
have
four-year
degrees.
Some
of
them
have
two-year
degrees
and
they
work
in
an
area
of
validation
and
calibration
of
certain
federal
fda
processes
that
have
to
happen,
and
it's
a
company
has
a
really
promising
future.
They
want
to
be
here.
C
This
is
the
best
location
in
the
company
for
them
and
they're
growing
and
creating
jobs.
So
it's
terrific
to
see
and
county
executive
jim
smith
is
one
of
those
very
forward-looking
county
executives
that
understands
that
the
talents
of
our
people
and
what
we
invest
in
our
children's
education
is
going
to
pay
huge
dividends
in
terms
of
the
quality
of
jobs
that
we
will
have
from
many
years
into
the
future
of
baltimore
county
and
also
for
our
state.
