A
Welcome
to
another
edition
of
ask
Jim
Smith.
Our
first
question
today
comes
from
Jay
and
woodlawn
Jay
contacted
us
to
express
his
disappointment
in
driving
from
Woodlawn
to
the
ikea
parking
lot
in
white
marsh
and
not
being
able
to
get
a
compost
bin
or
a
rain
barrel
in
connection
with
our
promotion.
This
past
spring
on
April
24th
Jay,
I'm,
very
sorry
that
you
did
not
get
a
compost
bin
and
a
rain
barrel,
but
I
really
appreciate
your
interest
in
doing
so,
and
there
were
a
lot
of
people
in
Baltimore
County
who
felt
the
same
way.
A
You
did
because
this
was
a
partnership
of
our
Department
of
Public
Works
and
our
Department
of
Environmental
Protection,
who
hosted
this
event,
and
we
really.
We
bought
these
rain
barrels
and
compost
bins
at
a
very
good
price,
because
we
ordered
a
truckload
and
we
actually
sold
the
truck
load
out
before
you
arrived
and
we're
sorry
about
that.
But
we
did
advertise
it
and
promote
it
on
a
first-come,
first-served
basis,
because
we
had
to
do
that.
We've
we've
run
the
compost
bin
sale
in
the
past.
A
In
fact,
we've
done
that
for
14
years
we
have
never
done
the
rain
barrels.
Obviously
the
people
in
Baltimore
County
are
very
attuned
to
how
important
it
is
to
protect
the
environment
and
I'm
very
proud
of
that.
We
will
try
to
take
that
into
account
next
year
when
we
run
this
program
again.
Thanks
for
your
interest
and
I
hope,
you
will
participate
next
year
when
we
will
do
this
all
over
again
and
thank
you
for
contacting
us.
A
Our
second
question
comes
from
Patrice
and
undock
Patrice
contacted
us
with
concern
that
when
she
saw
our
recent
recycling
program,
how
we've
done
in
the
first
ten
weeks
of
single
stream
that
it
occurred
at
a
landfill
and
she
worried
that
we
were
actually
landfilling
items
that
were
recyclable.
Trees
were
not
doing
that.
The
reason
we
picked
that
site
is
because
we
were
so
excited
about
the
county's
response
to
our
single
stream.
We're
actually
recyclables
are
up.
Thirty-Three
percent
in
Baltimore
County
and
trash
disposal
is
down
four
percent.
A
This
is
not
only
a
great
for
the
environment,
but
it's
also
great
for
Baltimore
County's
bottom
line
because
we're
on
an
annualized
basis
expecting
to
save
about
six
hundred
thousand
dollars
in
in
trash
disposal
costs
as
a
result
of
the
great
response
in
Baltimore
County.
But
the
other
thing
we
wanted
to
show
was
we
wanted
to
show
at
at
the
landfill,
even
with
the
great
response
how
much
of
the
trash
was
truly
recyclable.
A
There
were
lots
of
boxes
and
things
that
could
be
recycled
in
that
trash,
even
with
the
great
response
of
the
people
from
balt
about
people
at
Baltimore
County.
So
we
had
a
dual
purpose
of
mine
and
really
selecting
that
site.
If
you
want
to
see
how
the
how
we've
progressed
with
regard
to
our
recycling
program,
there's
going
to
be
a
on
our
website
within
the
next
few
weeks
at
BC
recycles
com.
So
please
check
that
out
again.
A
Thanks
for
your
commitment
to
the
environment
and
your
interest
in
the
program
and
thanks
for
your
question,
our
final
question
comes
from
Charles
and
lutherville.
Charles
is
concerned
about
the
quality
of
the
roads
in
the
York
manor
community
and
wanted
to
know
how
we
go
about
deciding
what
roads
get
repaved
Charles.
A
We
do
annually
a
survey
of
all
the
roads
in
baltimore
county
and
we
prioritize
them
on
the
basis
of
poor
condition
to
good
condition
and
we
approach
and
work
on
the
roads
that
are
in
the
poorest
condition
first
and
then
and
move
forward
with
it
with
our
program,
to
the
extent
that
we
have
the
resources
available
to
do.
Repaving
projects,
I,
checked
in
York
manner,
and
the
Welford
Road
and
Link
Wray
Lynn
crest
roads
are
both
on
the
list
to
be
done
in
2010.
