From YouTube: Baltimore County Land Preservation
Description
Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith joined local and state land preservation advocates in celebrating the preservation of 16 farms, bringing the county's total preserved acreage to more than 50,000 acres.
A
B
See
we're
all
enjoying
a
little
piece
of
heaven
here.
I
mean
this
is
unbelievably
beautiful
and
that
I
tell
you
on
behalf
of
that
everybody
in
Baltimore
County
I.
Thank
you
for
your
sentiments
outlook
that
you
have
regard
to
your
stewardship
of
such
a
beautiful
beautiful
place,
and
it's
really
it's
a
pleasure
to
be
here
to
celebrate
we're
celebrating
today.
Actually,
the
Baltimore
County
now
has
53
thousand
acres
of
land
under
preservation.
That's
it
that's
worth.
B
That
means
it
were
two-thirds
of
our
way
toward
our
stated
goal
of
preserving
80,000
acres.
Now,
for
the
past
five
years,
Baltimore
County
has
focused
on
the
Renaissance
of
our
historic
communities.
While
we
are
dedicated
the
restoration
of
our
older
historic
neighborhoods
and
business
districts,
we
are
equally
committed
to
preserving
our
world
heritage.
B
Eighty
percent
of
the
people
in
Baltimore
County
they
have
on
thirty
percent
of
the
land.
Two-Thirds
of
baltimore
county
is
world
and
we
take
the
preservation
of
that
open
space
very
very
seriously.
This
morning
we
are
really
recognizing
the
preservation
of
16
farms
that
combined
total
939
acres
of
land
land
that
has
been
preserved
through
the
maryland
agricultural
land
preservation
foundation.
B
27
years
ago,
when
I
served
on
the
baltimore
county
council,
Baltimore
County
adopted
the
agricultural
land
preservation
program
to
preserve
farmland
and
to
promote
our
County's
agricultural
industry.
The
program
consisted
in
the
agricultural
zone,
the
RC
21
lot,
450
acres
and
the
AG
man
Preservation
Foundation,
thanks
to
Dan
and
Captain
Calhoun,
the
Murrays
and
others.
During
the
past
25
years,
including
today,
16
farms,
Baltimore
County,
now
has
53
thousand
acres
under
preservation,
ranking
our
County.
Among
the
top
ten
counties
nationally
in
successful
land
preservation,
that's
worth
some
applause
to.
B
This
farm
owned
by
the
Murrays
is
composed
of
several
separate
processes
of
land.
The
Murrays
placed
two
parcels
in
the
Maryland
environmental
trust
program
where
Baltimore
County
leads
the
states
and
acres
preserved.
Today
we
are
celebrating
Amory
family's
decision
to
place
another
parcel
in
the
Maryland
agricultural
land
preservation
foundation.
B
These
two
programs
are
but
two
of
the
programs
that
are
available
to
landowners.
Other
programs
include
the
Maryland
and
Baltimore
County
rule
legacy
programs,
Maryland
green
print
program,
the
baltimore
county,
agricultural
land
preservation
program,
the
federal
farm
and
ranch
protection
program,
and
the
state
highways
view
shed
protection
program.
B
Baltimore
County
also
has
by
land
trusts
the
land
preservation,
trust
long,
green
valley,
gunpowder,
Conservancy,
Manor,
Conservancy
and
caves
Valley.
These
land
trusts
have
worked
together
to
create
an
informal

Trust
Alliance
representatives
of
the
Alliance
were

in
outreach
efforts
this
year
to
encourage
landowners
to
take
advantage
of
the
opportunities
presented
when
significant
funding
was
dedicated
to
the
state

recognized
today
include

by
