Description
County Exec Olszewski nominating Robert McCullough to serve as Baltimore Co Police Chief
A
A
Okay,
good
morning,
everyone
I
as
we're
settling
in
I
want
to
acknowledge
some
individuals
who
are
up
with
me
today
for
this.
This
morning's
exciting
and
historic
announcement
I'm
pleased
to
be
joined
by
Julian
Jones,
the
chairman
of
the
County
Council,
from
whom
you're
here
here
in
just
a
moment,
Stacy
Rogers,
our
County
administrative
officer,
Bernier
Harvey,
representing
speaker,
Adrian
Jones
and
Rebecca
Young,
who
is
our
Deputy
administrative
officer
for
Public,
Safety
and
indeed
protecting
Public
Safety,
is
one
of
the
most
sacred
of
responsibilities
that
we
have
in
local
government.
A
That's
why
I'm
excited
to
announce
that
I
am
nominated.
I
have
nominated,
in
fact
Robert
McCullough
to
be
the
next
chief
of
the
Baltimore
County
Police
Department
Chief
McCullough
will
be
the
first
African-American
to
lead
our
nation's
21st
largest
police
agency.
He
brings
over
35
years
of
local
homegrown
experience
working
with
and
for
our
communities.
A
A
Having
started
as
a
patrol
officer
in
the
North
Point
Precinct.
He
has
served
in
a
number
of
senior
leadership
roles
here
in
Baltimore
County,
including
Bureau
tree
bureau,
chief
of
criminal
investigations,
Eastern
Patrol
Division,
Commander,
captain
of
the
Wilkins
Precinct
and
the
Department's
Homeland
Security,
and
emergency
preparedness
Commander
during
the
covid-19
pandemic.
He
leveraged
this
expertise
serving
also
as
a
liaison
to
the
health
commissioner
here
in
Baltimore
County.
A
In
every
situation,
over
a
multi-decade
barrier-breaking
career,
Chief
McCullough
has
shown
the
pride
and
Innovation
necessary
to
set
new
standards
for
our
police
force.
He
shares
my
vision
for
a
department
that
Embraces
the
opportunity
to
engage
openly
and
transparently
with
the
public,
while
seeking
21st
century
solutions
to
problems
that
our
residents
face
and
as
a
30-year
resident
of
Baltimore
County.
A
Chiefed
out,
we
will
forever
be
grateful
for
your
dedication
to
the
people
of
Baltimore
County.
Under
your
study
leadership,
this
department
has
continued
to
make
progress
in
serving
our
communities.
We
are
thankful
that
he
returned
plans
to
return
to
a
Trusted,
Senior
leadership
role
within
the
department,
as
he
transitions
back
to
his
role
as
Colonel
I
am
honored
I'm
honored
to
take
part
in
this
historic
announcement.
I
look
forward
to
working
alongside
our
partners
in
the
County
Council
to
confirm
Chief
McCullough's
nomination.
B
B
My
career
in
law
enforcement,
spanned
more
than
35
years,
my
entire
adult
life
I
roasted
a
ranks
from
Cadet
to
Colonel,
with
the
privilege
of
Performing.
Never
nearly
every
assignment
the
department
had
to
offer
and
working
as
a
detective
at
nearly
every
rent
I've
had
the
honor
to
serve
alongside
some
of
the
finest
individuals
to
wear
our
badge
who
are
willing
to
and
have
sacrificed
their
lives
for
their
friends,
neighbors
fellow
officers
and
people.
They
have
never
met.
B
B
B
B
Every
person
in
Baltimore
County
deserves
to
feel
safe
and
know
they
are
safe
and
the
places
where
they
live
work
and
raise
their
families
as
a
department.
We
will
restore
the
collective
sense
of
safety
through
proactive,
Public,
Safety
strategies,
meaningful
Community,
engagement
and
holistic
unyielding
support
for
our
officers
and
the
community
throughout
my
career
and
throughout
my
life,
I
live
by
this
simple
principle:
every
person
deserves
to
be
heard
and
every
person
deserves
to
be
treated
with
respect.
B
B
Thank
you
to
my
incredible
wife
Alicia,
my
daughter,
who's
with
me,
Robin
my
family
friends,
members
of
the
Baltimore
County
Police
Department,
Community
leaders
and
the
citizens
of
Baltimore
County
for
their
support,
encouragement
and
partnership.
Now
and
in
the
months
and
years
ahead,
I
will
be
honored
to
once
again
serve
alongside
the
dedicated
members
of
the
Baltimore
County
Police
Department,
who
embodied
Integrity
fairness
and
service
every
day.
C
Thank
you,
County
Executive
osheski,
and
thank
you
soon
to
be
Chief
McCullough,
I'm,
Julian,
Jones,
chairman
of
the
Baltimore
County
Council
and
I,
just
wanted
to
say
number
one:
congratulations
to
pending
Chief
McCullough
and
congratulations
to
County
Executive
oshesky,
who
continues
to
build
upon
the
most
diverse
Administration
in
the
history
of
Baltimore
County
by
appointing
McCullough
to
be
the
chief.
Let
me
just
say
just
a
little
bit
about
Mr
McCullough.
C
He
has
an
extensive
background
here
in
Baltimore
County.
He
is
well
regarded
and
respected
and
admired
by
all
the
men
and
women
of
the
Baltimore
County
Police,
Department
and
I
am
certain.
He
will
be
a
fine,
Chief
and
I
look
forward
to
confirming
his
nomination
very
soon,
so
we
can
get
him
to
work
as
soon
as
possible.
So
thank
you
very
much
for
this
wonderful
day.
Again,
congratulations!
Mccullough
and
again.
Thank
you!
So
much
Town
executive
osheski
for
once
again
adding
on
to
the
most
diverse
Administration.
A
In
the
history
of
Baltimore
County
by
nominating
Chief
McCullough,
thank
you
thank
you,
Mr
chairman
and
before
we
take
questions.
I
just
want
to
thank
chairman
Jones,
as
well
as
the
many
other
members
across
the
community
who
serve
on
the
selection
committee,
who
really
vetted
dozens
of
really
qualified
candidates
to
help
in
this
process.
Through
that,
through
that
work,
it
became
clear
that
soon
to
be
Chief,
McCullough,
indeed,
is
is,
was,
and
is
the
right
person
at
the
right
time
for
the
future
of
our
department
in
this
County.
