From YouTube: Considering a Career in Law Enforcement?
Description
Baltimore County has one of the top police departments in the nation and they’re seeking bright candidates from diverse backgrounds.
A
Hi
and
thanks
for
watching
hello,
Baltimore,
County,
I'm,
Ellen
Kobler
police
work
can
be
a
very
rewarding
career
and,
at
the
same
time,
has
never
been
more
challenging.
We
have
two
guests
with
us
today
to
talk
about
recruiting
top
candidates,
while
also
increasing
the
representation
of
women
and
minorities.
Captain
Donna
Benton,
who
is
the
employment
section
commander,
is
here
along
with
Captain
Bob
McCullough,
who
is
a
commander
of
the
Wilkins
precinct.
Thank
you
both
so
much
for
joining
us,
hello,.
B
The
Baltimore
County
Police
Department
Department,
is
a
wonderful
place
to
work,
we're
very
large
agency.
We
are
one
of
the
top
25
agencies
in
the
nation.
Of
course,
we're
accredited
were
nationally
known
for
community
policing
and
were
known
for
our
reduction
in
control
of
crime
in
Baltimore,
County,
okay,.
A
C
B
We
used
to
have
a
process
where
we
used
to
test
once
a
year
and
sometimes
twice
a
year.
We
noticed
that
the
applicant
pool
started
to
diminish
with,
of
course,
a
lot
of
things
surrounding
policing
in
America
over
the
past
five
years.
So
we
collaborated
with
our
officer
office
of
human
resources
and
we
went
to
a
process
where
we
started
testing
monthly,
which
allowed
us
to
to
constantly
test
throughout
the
year
and
to
add
to
our
applicant
pool
which
of
course,
added
more
military
representation,
more
females
and
more
minorities
to
the
the
hiring
pool.
Okay,.
A
C
B
Addition,
it
gives
the
agency
more
capability
also,
when
you
think
of
in
terms
of
the
many
nationalities
the
many
languages
that
are
spoken
across
Baltimore
County.
Well
we're
able
to
hire
from
our
communities
from
our
different
different
ethnic
groups.
That
gives
us
the
capability
to
communicate,
interact
with
those
populations
that
were
serving
and.
B
A
C
I
mean
we
we're
looking
to
increase
diversity,
but
at
the
end
of
the
day
we
want
successful,
qualified
candidates
so
that
the
candidates
who
apply
you
know
we're
fortunate
enough
that
we
have
a
large
pool
so
we're
picking
the
best
applicants
at
the
time.
So
we
do
have
comprehensive
background
on
every
applicant,
so
everybody
we
hire.
It
is
going
to
be
a
successful
candidate.
Okay,.
B
We
always
seek
fairness
and
everything
we
do
once
again.
It
gets
back
to
you
know
when
you
have
tools,
you
don't
want
to
have
all
the
same
tools,
because
you
can't
get
the
job
done.
Okay,
so
when
you
have
different
people
different
things,
it
essentially
gives
you
different
tools
in
your
toolbox
to
get
the
job
done
and
that's
what
we're
seeking
to
do
is
to
have
multiple
tools
to
get
our
job
done.
Different.
A
C
We
are
a
large
organization
and
being
because
of
that,
it's
a
very
exciting
opportunity.
So
everybody
that
comes
into
the
department
has
to
do
two
years
as
a
patrol
officer,
but
then
they
can
apply
for
specialized
units.
They
can
be
promoted.
So
there's
a
tremendous
career
advancement
opportunities
available.
So
if
you're
looking
for
something
that's
challenging
that
takes
discipline
that
can
you
can
show
leadership,
it's
a
great
opportunity
for
them.
Okay,.
C
Do
in
July
July
15th
a
Saturday
morning
from
9:30
to
11:30
at
the
randallstown
community
recreation
center,
we're
doing
a
career,
fair,
we're
going
to
start
it
off.
Chief
Sheridan
will
be
there
to
help
us
start
it
off
we're
going
to
have
our
recruiters
and
off
and
staff
from
our
office
of
human
resources
and
they're
going
to
go
through
the
recruitment
process,
the
application
process
and
give
some
information
on
that.
C
And
then
the
best
part
is
we're
going
to
have
tables
set
up
and
we're
going
to
have
officers
and
detectives
from
all
over
our
department
who
are
going
to
be
there
to
share
information
about
the
our
career
paths.
Why
they
choose
to
become
officers
and
join.
The
department
will
have
cadets
there
as
well
to
talk
about
our
cadet
program.
We
hope
to
have
explorers
to
talk
about
our
Explorer
program,
and
this
is
part
of
a
faith-based
initiative
that
we
started
in
recruiting.
So
we've
reached
out
to
all
of
our
faith-based
leaders
in
the
area.
C
We
provided
information
on
this
career,
fair
and
we're
hoping
that
they
will
help
us
find
qualified
suitable
candidates
for
our
positions
of
cadet
and
police
officer,
and
we
will
have
computers
that
will
be
available
if
anybody
wants
to
log
on
and
sign
up
for
a
written
test
that
day.
Okay-
and
that's
not
the
only
opportunity.
No
right
right
is
we're
hoping
this
one
will
be
successful
and
then
we'll
expand
to
the
east
side
of
the
county.
A
C
They
go
online
to
apply
yes,
it's
an
online
application
and
we
have
a.
We
have
an
excellent
website.
It's
joined,
Baltimore,
County,
PD,
comm
and
there's
videos
posted
on
that
site,
there's
all
kinds
of
information
about
being
a
police
officer
and
an
actual
process.
As
far
as
the
physical
agility
test.
It's
an
excellent
website,
very
user
friendly
all.
