( ♪♪♪ ).
A
What a lovely performance!
with me now is: the studio is candice webster,, who directs towson university community dance.
A
good to see you!.
Thank you for having me.
well.
Can you give me a quick overview of towson university community dance??
A
What you do?.
C
Absolutely., we are the community arm of the department of dance for towson university.
B
And our mission is the same as the mission of the department of dance:.
C
Dancing for a lifetime.
and there's no more clearer vision than that..
We offer dance classes starting at age, three, all the way to 66 plus.
C
okay., all right.
( laughing ).
A
I think I'm on the other end of that spectrum., how does dancing help nurture the creative spirit?.
A
It enables dancers, and just people in life.
C
To express what they're feeling inside,.
C
What may be happening in their own day-to-day life.
C
That they need to maybe evoke out into a more creative atmosphere.
C
And it also enlivens them with an opportunity.
C
To really express who they are as an individual.
C
Right.
okay.
A
So, community dance, one typically thinks "non-professional,".
A
But you do have obviously professional instructors,.
A
But as well, some partnerships or collaborations.
tell us about that.
A
We do.
we do.
C
Within our community dance program,, we have a very special program called our pre-collegiate program.
C
And this is very elite, intensive program for high schoolers.
C
And within that, they have day-to-day ongoing practices.
C
With our tu faculty,, as well as guest artists within the field.
C
Well, let's talk about those guest artists, that being philadanco.
A
Absolutely.
we have a partnership with the gordon center,.
C
Which we are very, very happy to announce that this is our third year.
C
That we've been working with professional companies that they bring in.
C
And those artists come in for a week,.
They work with our high school students,.
C
Teaching them life skills about what's--, best practices in the studio,.
C
But what best practices in the life as a professional, dancer.
C
And we'll all be able to enjoy that at the dance celebration.
A
Quickly, in the few seconds we have left, tell us about that.
C
Absolutely., our students will be the opening act for philadanco in february, february 25th.
C
Within those best practices that they've been learning and being guided,, they will now--.
A
And if you were to describe philadanco, it is...
A
powerful., yeah., powerful., wonderful, dance group from philadelphia.
absolutely., based mostly on african-american...
C
Dancers, and their life experiences.
C
And bringing that to the stage and to our audience.
A
Terrific.
well,, thank you so much..
I wish we had more time to talk, candice webster.
thank you.
thanks.
