Baltimore county department of aging is hosting their 17th annual get ready,.

Get set, get fit, 5k run, 1 mile walk, carolyn,.

A

Can you please share information about this important event?.

A

I can, so this year's run walk is on sunday,.

B

September 17, at ccbc, essex, campus.

B

It starts at 8 am,, there are sponsors and information, wellness tables,.

B

Vendors, music, dancing,, food,, prizes, and so much more.

B

This event helps support older adult health and fitness by raising much.

B

Needed funds for county, senior exercise classes and fitness centers.

B

This year's course will be modified from last year.

B

It will still be the same length of a 5k or 3.1 miles,.

B

Which can be run or walked, and we will still have the 1 mile walk.

B

So last year the course had a trail section,, so.

B

This year there is no trail section.

B

We'll be utilizing the track at the campus.

A

This is such a fun and inspiring social event to attend.

A

Can you talk a little bit about that, please?.

B

Last year, in 2022 was my first time experiencing this event.

B

I was amazed by everything I saw..

B

The participants ranged in age from infants and strollers, of course,.

B

To individuals in their 90s., I saw families participating together, teams from many of our.

B

Baltimore county senior centers, and the atmosphere was just so lively.

B

It was precious to see so many generations coming together.

B

The enthusiasm was contagious, and it was so wonderful to see so.

B

Many enjoying this community event after previous years being tainted by covid.

B

And to see the runners and the walkers starting at the start and.

B

Then, coming across the finish, line.

B

there were cheerleaders there,, everybody was just supporting each other, and.

B

It was just wonderful.

Carolyn, you've mentioned previously that the run walk is a fundraiser.

Please talk about the programs that are supported through the proceeds of.

All proceeds from this event will sponsor bcda's wellness programs for.

B

Older adults., these programs include our evidence-based group exercise, programs,.

Programs and workshops in 14 fitness, centers,.

B

As well as other senior center programs and initiatives.

B

Individual senior centers can receive monetary reward for.

B

Participation and funds raised.- the senior center council then can apply those funds towards programming at their.

B

A

The generosity of the run, walk sponsors make an event of this magnitude. Possible.

There are several ways that you can register for the run: walk.

B

And you can register there online.

The second way you can register is by going to your senior center.

B

They have registration, forms, and you can pay right. There.

The third way is by mail,, so you can get a registration form and.

B

Send it right in to our office here, and we'll get you registered.

And the fourth way is to register the morning of the event.

So,, even if you're procrastinating,, you can still come in the morning.

So we have a few weeks to get ready for the 5k run, 1 mile walk.

Can you give our viewers a few tips to prepare?

absolutely,? All of our fitness centers have brand new equipment, so.

Joining and starting a fitness regimen would be a great start.

B

We also start our next sessions of our group exercise programs. The second week.

B

Of july., so that's coming up real soon.. This would be a fun way to get fit, meet other people, and.

B

Maybe even join a team for the run, walk from that center.
