For 2022, cultivating a brighter tomorrow was selected.

Dayna,, let's begin our conversation by talking about.

How this initiative was selected and why the topic is so appropriate as we kick-off 2022.

Well, each year, bcda's director,, laura riley,.

Requests suggestions from the entire staff and our commission on aging.

B

To create an initiative that will address the needs of the population, we serve.

B

Based on those suggestions,, a committee is then formed who identifies the topic moving forward.

B

And the types of programs our agency can offer over the next 12 months.

B

We know that we are continuing to contend with and recover from the pandemic,.

B

So cultivating a brighter tomorrow,.

B

The theme we selected creates a wonderful opportunity to.

B

Encourage everyone to identify ways to brighten their days,.

B

Enhance their community, look forward to new beginnings and stay rooted in resilience,.

B

Which is our theme from 2021.

B

This theme, cultivating a brighter tomorrow,.

B

Also grows from and feeds off of the seeds we planted.

B

In our rooted in resilience, initiative., can you share information about the program's concentration areas?.

The committee established eight concentration areas for this year.

B

Those eight are nutrition and health,.

B

Fitness and exercise, diversity,.

B

Mental and emotional health, technology,.

B

Environmental topics,, financial, awareness, and community involvement.

B

As part of the initiative,, we're also going to plan to recognize national wellness days,.

B

Not unlike we did in 2021 to call attention to health promotion topics.

B

Such as cancer awareness and prevention,.

B

Healthy weight,, american heart month, african heritage and health week, defeat diabetes month and so much more.

B

All programs will be offered in person this year at our 20 senior centers.

B

But we will continue to offer virtual programming as well.

B

All of these programs will be free of charge.

B

A

Besides the eight concentration areas that you mentioned, along with the national wellness days, to highlight health promotion, subjects,.

A

Can you share more about the celebration events, special opportunities, and other programming to support the initiative?.

A

Yes., the committee believes strongly that we have an excellent opportunity.

For 2022 to draw attention to a lot of special events.

B

And diverse topics to provide our older adults,.

B

Caregivers, and professionals across the county information that they seek and desire.

B

Information can also expand lifelong learning opportunities.

B

And these will include such things as financial wellness, month,.

B

Black history, month, lgbtq pride, month,.

B

Older americans, month in may, world elder abuse awareness day in june, and just so much more throughout the year..

B

As with all of our programming,.

B

Our goal is to create options for everyone to enjoy.

B

So that we can best serve our diverse population across the county.

B

As you would imagine,, everyone has different needs and circumstances.

B

So we're going to be very mindful of those differences during our programming process.

B

Dayna,, in addition to the programs offered in the senior centers,.

There's a component of the initiative that is planned specifically for professionals.

A

Can you share information about that?

yes., every year,.

For the past, several years,, the baltimore county department of aging, has offered an annual professional conference called senior.

B

Solutions to support and highlight our initiative.

B

Our efforts are focused primarily on the professionals who serve our population,.

B

But others are invited to join..

B

This conference is scheduled for april of 2022,.

B

And it will again be virtual next year, so we will offer ceus for social workers.

B

But all professionals, again,, like I said,, are invited to participate.

B

This conference would be of interest to assisted living and nursing home staff,.

B

Service providers, care managers, and so many more.

B

More to follow about the conference will be available and shared in the coming months.
