B
A
The
second
week
in
May
is
naturally
recognized
as
police
officers
week
with
today,
the
15th
known
as
official
police
officers
Memorial
Day,
and
it
has
been
sold
since
1962
when
it
was
established
by
Congress.
When
preparing
my
remarks,
I
thought:
what
is
a
police
officer
and
how
would
you
define
it?
It's
2019,
so
I
went
to
a
couple
popular
sources
to
find
out
the
answer.
A
Wikipedia
states
that
a
police
officer
is
a
warranted
law,
employee
of
a
police
force.
The
dictionary
defines
a
police
officer
as
a
member
of
a
police
force.
These
ass
answers
are
pretty
Drive,
so
I
asked
an
expert
I
asked
Alexa
I
said:
hey
you
like,
so
what's
a
police
officer,
but
she
gave
me
the
same
answer
as
the
dictionary
I
didn't
ask
Siri,
because
I'm,
an
Android
guy
and
I
can't
afford
a
balloon.
I
then
asked
my
son.
A
A
It
seems
that
police
officer
means
different
things
to
different
people
and
that's
clear
to
anyone
in
this
profession
or
it's
close
to
someone
that
is
to
the
people
we
arrest
most
times.
Police
officers
are
harasses
weren't,
annoyance.
We
are
invaders
of
privacy
and
infringers
on
personal
freedoms.
To
the
person
we
write.
A
speeding
ticket
to
police
officers
are
a
waste
of
time.
We
should
be
out
catching
criminals,
not
handing
out
pieces
of
paper,
someone
that's
just
running
late
to
work.
Anything
and
anyone
can
be
seen
in
a
negative
light.
A
It
just
depends
on
how
you
look
at
it.
However,
from
a
different
angle,
police
officers
are
something
more
to
the
domestic
violence
victims.
Police
officers
are
a
savior.
We
are
the
ones
that
step
in
and
protect
them
when
others
could
not
to
the
car-crash
victim.
Police
officers
are
a
sense
of
comfort.
We
stand
by
them,
hold
their
hand
and
let
them
know
everything's
going
to
be
okay
to
the
bullied
high
school
student.
A
When
researching
this
definition
of
a
police
officer,
I
was
hoping
to
hear
one
word,
but
I
didn't
hear
it,
and
that
word
is
hero.
Anybody.
That
knows
me
knows
that
I've
been
a
fan
of
comic
books,
my
entire
life,
my
favorite,
are
the
superhero
titles
Superman,
Batman
daredevil,
but
ones
about
fantastic
people
with
incredible
skills
that
right
the
wrongs
of
society.
They
face
danger,
no
matter
what
the
risk
they
do.
The
right
thing,
even
when
it's
hard
to
do
I,
then
decided
to
ask
the
same
sources
before
what
a
hero
was.
A
Alexa
said
that
a
hero
is
a
person
that
is
noted
for
courageous
acts
and
nobility
of
character,
Wikipedia
states
a
hero,
performs
great
deeds
or
selfless
acts
for
the
common
good
I.
Like
these
definitions
a
lot
better,
then
we
closely
examined.
They
are
in
fact
talking
about
police
officers.
A
police
officer
is
noble,
courageous,
selfless
and
they're.
Acting
for
the
common
good
police
officers,
don't
arrest
people
to
harass
them.
We
do
it
to
make
our
communities
a
better
and
safer
place
to
live.
We
don't
write
speeding
tickets
to
waste
time.
A
A
A
This
week
in
May
is
police
officers
week,
and
we
know
that
police
officers
are
heroes,
but
we
cannot
forget
those
heroes
that
paid
the
ultimate
sacrifice
in
the
line
of
duty.
They
face
the
danger
head-on.
They
ran
towards
the
threat
not
away
from
it.
They
fought
for
the
greater
good
in
their
town,
city,
county
and
state.
A
Let
us
remember
them
today
and
every
day
that
the
heroes
that
they
are
I'd
like
to
end
my
remarks
today
with
a
quote
from
my
favorite
book,
so
once
crowded
sky
by
Tom,
King
shocker,
it's
about
superheroes
but
I-
think
it
ultimately
accurately
describes
the
people
that
we
are
honoring
today.
It
states
a
hero,
puts
the
greater
good
above
himself
above
his
own
limitations.
You
don't
give
up
you
don't
quit.
You're
the
hero
save
the
day.
A
D
Was
a
great
job
by
officer,
Meyer
I
think
I
just
found
my
new
speechwriter
anyway.
Thank
you.
First
off
I'd
like
to
thank
the
Fraternal
Order
of
Police
Lodge
103
for
organizing
this
ceremony.
Today
they
always
do
a
great
job.
Rod
skink
worked
on
setting
this
whole
thing
up
early
today
and
it's
been
working
on
it
throughout
the
last
month.
D
Each
of
them
made
the
ultimate
sacrifice
and
gave
their
lives
protecting
our
community,
just
as
so
many
others
throughout
our
great
nation
have
done
the
men
and
women
we
honor
today
came
from
all
walks
of
life,
so
we're
outgoing.
While
some
were
quiet,
some
had
families
and
some
did
not.
Some
were
veteran
officers
and
some
had
been
on
the
job
for
just
a
short
time.
They
came
from
different
places,
lived
in
different
times
and
died
under
different
circumstances.
D
Certainly
believe
that
all
of
them
were
bound
by
a
common
belief
in
justice.
They
all
chose
law
enforcement
as
a
profession
because
they
believed
in
their
laws
and
in
defending
our
freedoms
for
them,
law
enforcement
was
more
than
a
profession.
It
was
a
common.
They
were
bound
by
a
common
devotion
to
service
service,
to
our
citizens
service
to
our
communities
and
service
to
our
country.
It
was
service
at
all
costs.
D
D
We
think
of
actions
that
run
directly
counter
to
our
human
instinct
of
self-preservation
and
many
of
the
officers
we
honor
today
displayed
exactly
that
kind
of
hour.
Each
of
them
lived
out
the
unspoken
covenant
that
all
police
officers
make
when
they
swear
an
oath
to
serve
and
protect
their
instinct
was
to
put
the
safety
of
others
before
their
own.
Their
actions
can
most
certainly
be
called
heroic,
but
there's
another
kind
of
heroism.
D
The
quiet
everyday
hero
was
in
each
and
every
one
of
these
officers
displayed
simply
by
putting
on
their
badges
and
going
to
work
every
day.
Each
of
them
understood
that
there
was
a
chance
that
they
might
not
make
it
home
that
night.
That
is
also
heroism
and
always
remember
that
each
of
them
accepted
that
risk,
so
that
others
would
not
have
to.
D
D
C
About
a
month
ago,
sergeant
shank
contacted
me
and
had
it
said,
I
had
a
question
for
you,
I'd
like
for
you
to
speak,
that
the
police
officer,
memorial,
service
and
I
was
really
touched
and
honored,
and
then
he
texted
back
and
said,
keep
it
short
and
sweet.
So
I'll
try
to
do
that,
especially
because
it's
right
now
on
February
19th,
2016
I
was
on
my
way
back
from
Tennessee
and
I
got
a
call
from
a
friend
and
she
wanted
to
know
about
the
officer
that
was
shot
well.
C
I
hadn't,
been
in
town,
so
I
wasn't
sure
what
was
going
on.
But
my
heart
sank:
I
pulled
off
on
the
side
of
the
road
to
call
the
office
to
find
out
who
the
officer
was
and
if
he
or
she
was
okay,
I
was
told
it
was
Lane
stockmeyer
and
that
he
was
going
to
be
fine.
It
wouldn't
matter
to
me
which
agency
or
which
officer.
C
C
Because
they
were
part
of
us,
it
seems
like.
Every
day
we
hear
new
reports
of
attacks
on
law
enforcement
and
for
a
little
while,
after
each
of
these
incidents,
we
all
remember
that
this
job
is
a
dangerous
profession.
We
look
at
each
other
with
respect.
We
go
home
and
hug
our
families
a
little
tighter,
we're
a
little
more
vigilant.
We
have
a
little
more
pride
in
what
we
do
as
time
goes
on.
C
However,
those
feelings
are
tucked
away
in
our
memories,
as
we
get
back
to
the
everyday
routine
of
our
jobs,
families
and
life,
sometimes
I
think
we
forget.
All
of
us
forget
that
every
call
responded
to
by
our
officers
can
potentially
be
a
lethal
call.
It
doesn't
have
to
be
terrorism
or
gang
violence
or
a
big
drug
bust.
It
can
be
a
bond
violation,
officer
stockmeyer.
It
can
be
a
teenager
breaking
into
a
home
officer
Murphy,
it
can
be
a
domestic
violence,
call
officers,
Jablonski
and
Rec
sir.
It
can
be
a
simple
traffic
stop
officer
caning.
C
C
We
live
in
a
crazy
world
right
now
and
that
thin
blue
line
is
becoming
thinner
in
Michigan.
The
number
of
enforcement
office
law
enforcement
officers
in
a
ten
year
period
between
2006
2016
declined
by
12%,
while
the
population
only
declined
by
one
locai
high-stress
long
hours.
Media
scrutiny
are
all
some
reasons
we
are
seeing
that
number
drop.
C
C
We
talk
about
the
legacy
that
each
officer
who's
been
taken
from
us
has
left
in
the
wake
of
their
deaths,
but
I
believe
that
legacy
grows
with
each
attention
to
detail
with
each
successful
investigation
with
each
life.
That
is
touched
by
our
actions
when
your
job
is
ended
here,
whether
changing
jobs,
retiring
or
god
forbid,
someone
giving
the
ultimate
sacrifice.
C
Will
it
be
said
of
you?
He
or
she
made
a
difference.
Each
law
enforcement
officer
here
became
a
law
enforcement
officer
for
a
reason
when
you
doubt
what
you're
doing
go
back
to
the,
why?
God
bless
all
the
families
of
our
fallen
officers,
and
god
bless
everyone
who
is
engaged
in
law
enforcement,
you're,
appreciated
and
prayed
for
every
day
by
this
girl.
