Good
evening
and
welcome
everyone
to
the
56th
annual
Bay
Corral
spring
concert,
my
name
is
Reverend
Eric
Kiva
I'm,
the
pastor
of
Grace
United,
Methodist,
Church
and
I'm.
Your
narrator
for
the
evening,
we're
here
tonight
to
celebrate
American,
composers
and
we're
happy
that
you
could
join
us.
Tonight's
music
is
special.
Every
note
was
written
by
an
American
composer.
The
song
we
just
heard
is
a
unique
type
of
American
music,
the
African-American
spiritual.
D
These
songs
were
created
by
unknown
composers
and
passed
from
one
enslaved
person
to
another.
Most
were
finally
written
down
and
arranged
by
musicians
in
the
late
1800s
and
early
1900s.
Let's
listen
as
the
Corral
sings.
Two
more
of
these
traditional
spirituals
Nobody
Knows,
the
troubles
I've
seen
and
This
Little
Light
of
Mine.

About
the
same
time
as
spirituals
were
being
composed
by
one
group
of
people,
French
Canadian
voyagers
were
traveling
and
trading
on
the
great
lakes
and
river
systems.
The
folk
song
Shenandoah
is
really
another
type
of
spiritual
composed
by
an
unknown
Voyager
and
passed
from
person
to
person.
Tonight
Shenandoah
will
be
performed
by
The
Men's
Chorus
of
the
bay
chorale.

The
noise
made
by
dozens
of
people
pounding
on
pianos
all
at
once
created
a
unique
sound
as
you
walked
down
the
street
one
newspaper
reporter
said
it
was
like
hundreds
of
people
pounding
on
empty
tin
pans,
so
the
area
got
the
name:
Tim
Pan
Alley,
some
of
our
most
beloved
American
composers,
came
out
of
tympan
alley:
Irving
Berlin
Cole,
Porter
George
and
Ira
Gershwin
Richard
Rogers,
Oscar,
Hammerstein,
Hoagie
Carmichael,
and
the
list
goes
on.
Please
enjoy
the
following
tribute
to
Cole
Porter,
followed
by
the
bay
Corral
women
singing
a
medley
of
20s
hits.

Fake
a

us

make

to
make

to

Our
faith
has
challenged
us
to
make
the
trouble
to
make
this
world
a
better
place.
To

has
challenged
us
to
make
the
trouble
to
make
good

to

to

more
struggles

Irving
Berlin
was
born
in
Russia,
but
he
was
working
as
a
composer,
a
ranger
Pianist
on
tin
pen
alley
when
he
was
still
a
teenager.
He
said
his
goal
was
always
to
quote
reach
the
heart
of
the
average
American.
Unquote
he
achieved
that
goal.
Some
of
his
compositions
are
Easter
Parade,
White,
Christmas
and
God
bless
America.

In
the
late
1890s,
along
with
Tin
Pan
Alley,
new
styles
of
entertainment
became
popular
Vaudeville,
styled
troops
of
singers
dancers,
magicians,
Comedians
and
jugglers
began
traveling.
The
country,
American
composers,
wrote
new
songs
for
the
many
composers,
the
demand
for
variety,
entertainment
created
new
cafes
and
clubs,
where
people
ate
and
drank
while
being
entertained.
The
next
musical
numbers
are
about
these
new
places
to
find
entertainment,
foreign.

Both
musicals
and
movies
were
experienced
in
a
theater,
so
theaters
were
built
in
towns
everywhere,
Maddie
tympan
alley,
composers
moved
easily
between
Broadway
and
movies,
Cole
Porter
George
and
Ira
Gershwin
Irving
Berlin
Jerome,
Kern,
Richard,
Rogers,
Oscar,
Hammerstein,
Alan,
J,
Lerner
and
Frederick
Lowe.
The
titles
of
the
musicals
are
endless:
Kiss
Me,
Kate,
My,
Fair,
Lady,
Oklahoma,
Camelot,
maim,
Hello,
Dolly
and
The
Sound
of
Music
sit
back
and
enjoy,
as
the
Chorale
performs
songs
from
a
variety
of
musicals.

began

ceremonies
helped
movie

to
be
recognized.
Now
you
will
hear
