A
Good
morning,
all
right,
my
country,
tis
of
thee,
sweet
land
of
liberty,
of
thee,
I
sing
land,
where
my
fathers
died,
land
of
the
pilgrims
pride
from
every
mountainside.
Let
freedom
ring
let
music
slow
the
breeze
and
ring
from
all
the
trees,
sweet
freedom
song,
but
moral
tongues
awake.
Let
all
that
breathe
party.
This
rocks
their
famous
break
the
sound
prolong,
let's
give
a
hand
for
our
fantastic
musicians.
A
Leader,
thank
you
very
much
for
coming
in
our
camp.
Today
we
celebrate
the
triumph
of
honor
courage,
commitment
and
sacrifice
of
freedom's
martyrs
and
their
stoic
families,
Eston

craftsman,
with
a
silver
hammer
and
chisel,
and
an
artisans
palette
of
gold,
red
white
and
blue,
both
our
families,
distinguished
guests.
A
Ladies
and
gentlemen,
gentlemen,
my
name
is
10x
I
am
the

Welcome
you
to
this
dedication
ceremony
and
thank
you
for
joining
us
on
national
gold,
star

Memorial
Day.
A
Recently,
I'm
driving
in
my
car
at
whimsical
tune
entitled
hello.
Goodbye
plays
in
the
radio
I
have
a
vivid
memory.
I
was
fixing
a
whole
uniform.
The
very
first
time,
I
heard
it
recurring
to
my
first
deployment
to
Vietnam
every
tensive.
You
got,
but
things
worked
out
for
me
myself
for
others.
Many
families
sadly
got
a
file
goodbye,
quite
unexpectedly,
so
it's
prudent
today,
our
gold
star
families
can
hear
say
hello
to
friends
in
this
community
who
helped
and
a
community
that
came
together
and
to
say
of
without
voice.

are
you
there?
You

Okay,
come
come
back,

lest
we

from

and,
of
course,
the
city
of
Bay

A
I
want
to
tell
you
that
viewing
this
mind
magnets
images
last
night
by
moonlight,
it
spoke
aloud
and
it
came
to
life,
not
only
echoes
and
images
of
faith
and
fortitude,
but
words
of
love.
All
you've
got
to
do
is
visit
this
park
gaze
upon
these
images
contemplate
their
meaning
to
find
that
inspiration.

Thank
you
very
much
and
welcome
to
our
beautiful
Battery
Park.
Every
Park
is
the
city's
oldest
Park
and
it's
a
perfect
location
for
the
Michigan
gold,
star
families,
memorial
monument,
a
project
undertaken
by
the
vade
that
consolidation
who
focus
on
recognizing
and
helping
our
veterans.
This
project
has
been
done
before
never
been
done
before
in
the
state
of
Michigan,
the
gold
star
family,
sir
Mario
monument
was
introduced
by
we
all
know
who
Hershel
woody
Williams
former
United
States
Marine,
who
received
the
Medal
of
Honor
in
1945.
F
First
Williams,
father
that
Hershel
woody
Williams
Medal
of
Honor
foundation
in
2010,
establishing
these
monuments
throughout
the
country,
a
gold
star
family,
because
a
relative
of
the
United
States
Armed
Forces
member,
lost
their
lives
while
serving
in
the
United
States
military.
The
purpose
of
the
gold
star
families,
memorial
monument
is
to
honor
gold.
Star
families
preserve
the
memory
of
the
Fallen
and
stand
as
a
stark
reminder
that
freedom
is
not.
E
F
Back
in
April
at
the
groundbreaking
ceremony,
it's
very
very
humbling
to
see
so
many
family
members
are
those
who
made
the
ultimate
sacrifice
and
that
we
are
honoring
today
we
are
proud
to
be
seen
and
the
people
of
a
city
to
have
the
forethought
to
be
the
first
in
Michigan
to
honor
all
of
Michigan's
gold,
star
families.
On
behalf
of
the
city.
Excuse
me,
we
are
honored
to
have
the
newest
addition
to
our
park
of
monuments
in
our
battery
park.
G
Same
in
front
of,
and
all
of
the
distinguished
guests
in
families
that
we
have
here
today,
as
I
was
time
to
walk
in
here,
I
had
the
opportunity
to
chat
with
a
few
people
from
throughout
this
region
and
throughout
the
state
and
throughout
the
country,
and
it
just
shows
what
a
testament
this
memorial
and
the
significance
of
is
Memorial
and
I.
Thank
the
Hershel.
G
F
G
G
F
H
7,000
soldiers
and
civilians
that
operate
from
Detroit
Arsenal
are
responsible
for
supporting
equipment
in
the
United
States
Army.
That
ranges
from
the
tanks
to
small
arms
of
weapons
from
parachutes
to
soldiers
uniforms
the
wheeled
vehicles
that
we
drive
and
perform
our
mission.
Our
solemn
pledge
to
our
country
is
to
provide
those
men
and
women,
your
sons
and
daughters
with
the
very
best
equipment
that
we
can
to
perform.
The
mission
the
Army
has
been
given
in
defense
of
our
nation.
H
It's
very
important
on
this
occasion
that
we
understand
the
solemn
nature
of
this
Monument,
it's
more
than
the
work
that
went
into
it.
It
represents
the
lives
of
men
and
women
who
defended
this
nation
I
as
an
American
soldier
stand
here
today
to
let
those
families
know
to
let
you
know
that
we
will
never
forget
those
of
us
who
wear
the
uniform
now
and
for
those
that
Ward
in
the
past.
H
We
will
not
forget
and
we're
here
for
you
I,
want
to
thank
all
those
who
took
this
effort
all
to
ensure
that
this
monument,
the
first
in
the
state
of
Michigan,
was
placed
here
to
honor
the
memories
of
those
men
and
women.
We
will
not
forget
to
have
the
privilege
to
be
here
with
two
Medal
of
Honor
recipients.
E
H
F
H
States
that
are
under
way,
we
will
not
forget
from
time
to
time
it's
been
my
unfortunate
honor
to
represent
my
service
and
present
the
flag
of
our
nation
to
a
gold
star
family,
and
it
has
a
solid
meaning
for
me
as
a
soldier,
we
will
not
forget.
Thank
you
very
much
for
inviting
me
to
come
up
and
share
this
great
day.
God
bless
you
and
your
families,
and
especially
our
gold
star
families,
bless
it
for
the
continued
efforts
to
bring
our
soldiers
home.
I
Good
morning,
it's
always
a
privilege
to
be
able
to
attend
events
like
this
to
represent
the
governor,
but
today
it's
particularly
an
honor
to
be
here,
but
the
gold
star
family
members
to
Medal
of
Honor
winners.
All
of
you,
and
particularly
to
be
here
in
Bay
City
I
am
NOT
a
son
of
Bay
City,
but
I
am
a
grandson
Bay.
F
I
Mother
grew
up
at
center
and
crumble.
My
grandfather
grandmother
raised
their
eight
children
there.
My
great-grandparents
came
here
in
the
mid-1800s.
Our
ties
to
this
community
go
back
generations
and
my
own
beloved
father-in-law
chose
to
move
to
Bay,
City
and
he's
here
today
with
us
all
in
all
account
son.
It's
a
wonderful.
I
I
I
I
Of
war
than
our
gold
star
families,
indeed,
the
debt
that
we
owe
can
never
be
fully
repaid,
but
just
as
we
as
a
nation
take
care
of
our
veterans
when
they
return
home,
we
so
as
a
family
of
michigan
Ian's
and
a
family
of
grateful
Americans
take
care
of
our
gold
star
families
in
our
lives.
Many
of
us
are
guided
by
faith,
family
commitments
and
community.
That's
a
nation!
Last
night,
throughout
our
state
families
went
to
football
games.
E
I
Saw
soccer
games
take
place,
ballet
recitals
all
plays
birthdays
and
anniversaries.
Those
are
unique
and
important
moments
for
all
families
for
our
gold
star
families.
They
are
unique
and
important,
and
we
pray
to
the
God
that
created
us
that
they
are
still
filled
with
joy,
but
there
is
always
a
moment
or
some
loss
that
is
remembered,
and
it's
remembered
here
locally
in
mid-michigan
by
26
families,
since
9/11
2001,
three
families
from
Bay,
City,
five
Flint,
4
and
Saginaw.
Two.
E
I
Alpena
two
in
Midland
3
in
Swartz
Creek
and
one
family,
Ambassador,
gladwyn
and
Mount
Pleasant,
and
countless
other
communities,
small
and
large
throughout
our
state.
From
this
current
conflict
and
hundreds
and
hundreds
from
previous
conflicts,
last
night
I
read
a
nine
page
document
that
my
staff
prepared
for
me
to
get
ready
for
today.
It
lists
the
names
of
all.
I
226
of
our
sisters
and
brothers,
who
have
laid
down
their
lives
for
this
nation
since
September
11th
they,
together
with
the
hundreds
and
thousands
of
other
Michigan
ian's,
who
have
sacrificed
a
ball
for
us
as
a
people
and
as
a
nation.
We
all
owe
our
deep
debt
of
gratitude
to
all
goats
gold,
star
families
from
every
era
of
service.
I
Do
that,
so
we
can
remember
and
honor
our
gold
star
families
I
believe
with
this
Monument.
It
will
help
bring
an
awareness
of
our
gold
star
families
to
their
sacrifices
of
their
fallen
heroes.
It
will
also
be
a
rallying
point
for
a
community
of
Michigan
to
recognize
their
services,
as
our
fellow
of
Honor
winner
or
Officer
woody
Williams
who's.
Here
today
with
us
and
I.
I
Don't
know
if
you
heard
closely
enough
the
sole
remaining
surviving
Medal
of
Honor
winner
from
the
Battle
of
Iwo
Jima
in
the
Second
World
War,
and
he
together
with
Colonel,
kettles,
wear
the
cloth
of
our
nation
and
are
the
recipients
of
our
nation's
and
highest
honor
I.
Think
we
should
applaud
them
and
recognize
their
global.
E
I
This
is
Michigan's
first
gold
star
family,
memorial
monument,
it's
the
only
one
in
our
state.
It
will
forever
be
known
as
the
original
Monument
and
I
will
forever
be
humbled
to
be
here
today
with
you
tomorrow,
our
gold
star
families,
when
you
were
a
church-
and
you
listened
to
scripture
or
when
you
enjoy.
If
you
love
the
woods
and
you're
up
in
your
deerskin
as
a
o'seas
and
starts
tomorrow,.
I
I
E
E
I
Look
forward
to
the
day,
like
mr.
Williams
donar
Williams
said
when
there's
a
gold
star
family
memorial
monument
in
every
community
in
our
great
nation
I.
Thank
you
for
the
privilege
of
being
here
today.
Thank
the
mayor
for
her
commitment
and
the
Foundation's
commitment
for
this
monument
asset.
God
bless
each
of
you,
the
great
city
of
Bay
City,
our
great
state,
our
service
members,
and
especially
our
gold
star
families,
Thank
You.
K
K
K
K
He
was
sent
to
the
Pacific
served
in
Guam
and
iwo
jima
stated
returned
along
in
a
1945.
If
also
been
stated,
he
was
awarded
the
Medal
of
Honor
by
then
President
Truman
on
leaving
Marine
Corps.
He
did
not
stack
arms.
He
continued
a
different
mission.
He
formed
a
foundation
to
honor
those
who
did
not
return,
and
particularly
the
families
of
those
were
left
behind,
for
they
suffer
endlessly
until
their
demise.
K
J
J
This
is
not
about
me
it's
about
them
we're
here
because
of
them
we're
here
because
of
the
gold
star
families
in
this
community
who
gave
more
than
any
of
us
so
may
I
everybody
stay
seated,
but
may
I
ask
that
all
of
the
gold
star
family
members,
any
relationship
cousin
uncle
dad
mom
any
relationship
to
someone
who
gave
their
life
in
the
armed
forces
of
this
great
country
any
time
in
our
history.
Would
you
please
hold
your
hand
up?
J
J
J
J
J
And
it
says
by
the
erection
of
this
memorial
monument,
this
community
is
not
going
to
forget
and
as
I've
traveled
around
over
the
country,
one
of
the
things
that
expressed
to
me
often
once
they
see
the
memorial
monument
paying
tribute
to
their
loved
one
they'll
say.
I,
am
so
glad
that
it's
here,
because
that
tells
me
that
my
son
or
my
dad
or
my
brother
or
my
uncle,
what
cousin
our
daughter
will
not
be
or
doctor
that
is
so
important.
J
That
would
not
forget
this
community,
along
with
other
communities
in
the
world,
are
in
the
contract,
are
taking
the
lead
and
in
doing
this
oil
monument,
and
it's
only
one
that
perhaps
will
come
into
this
great
state
of
Michigan
I
will
go
down.
Another
challenge,
my
little
state
of
West
Virginia,
where
we're
49th
economically
in
the
country
and
every
day
we
get
up
we'll
say
thank
God
for
Mississippi
would
be
that.

of
