We
stand
here
today
and
ask
you
to
put
your
arms
around
our
young
men
and
women,
who
are
now
serving
in
harm's
way,
give
them
courage
to
face
each
day
and
may
they
trust
in
the
lord's
mighty
power
to
help
them
accomplish.
Each
task
give
them
faith
to
look
beyond
the
trials
of
the
present
to
know
that
neither
life
nor
death
can
separate
them
or
us
from
the
love
and
care
of
christ.
Jesus
may
you
who
are
here
today
be
blessed.

These
americans
gave
all
of
their
young
years
so
that
liberty
might
grow
and
that's
just
what
happens
on
that
day.
One
of
the
war
that
would
drag
on
for
1
32
more
days,
a
war
that
would
be
fought
from
the
snow-covered
alps
through
the
jungles
of
new
guinea
and
would
eventually
claim
the
lives
of
405
399
american
patriots,
and
there
were
so
many
amazing
stories
that
occurred
that
morning,
aviation
machinist
mate
first
class
george
paul
pfizer,
who
was
stationed
aboard
the
arizona,
was
assigned
to
the
forward
five-inch
gun
as
his
battle
station.
A
A
He
ran
below
and
began
lifting
90
pound
shells
and
heavy
heaving
heavy
loads
of
gunpowder
into
the
hoist.
A
Found
it
and
began
to
climb,
as
he
was
overcome
by
nausea,
he
smelled
the
sickening
stench
of
his
own
burning
flesh.
His
hands
were
seared
and
sticking
to
the
hot
metal
ladder
through
the
fog
engulfed
his
brain.
He
heard
the
sounds
of
those
dying,
their
whispers
and
their
screams.
He
was
unable
to
breathe.
His
lungs
were
aching
and
on
fire.

A
A
The
steward
was
hesitant,
so
I
pushed
his
head
through
and
he
pulled
himself
out
the
ship's
carpenter,
mr
austin,
a
large
man
weighing
over
200
pounds
knew
he
would
never
make
it
through
the
small
porthole,
so
he
ducked
underwater
and
held
it
open
for
me,
as
I
swim
out,
I
scraped
my
hips
squeezing
through
and
lost
my
pajama
bottoms,
mr
austin,
couldn't
make
make
it
out.
He
was
the
most
noble
and
heroic
act
of
man
could
perform,
knowing
full
well
that
his
minutes
were
few.

I
thank
you
for
this
day.
I
thank
you
and
ask
you
to
bless
each
and
every
one
that
is
here
this
day.
Put
your
arms
around
about
them.
Keep
them
safe,
as
they
travel
from
this
house
in
this
place,
bless
them
father,
god,
in
the
name
of
jesus,
in
the
name
of
the
father
and
the
son,
and
the
holy
spirit,
amen,
amen,.
A
I
think
it's
something
that
you
all
would
be
interested
in.
Seeing
I
want
to
thank
you
all
for
coming
out
here
and
taking
part
in
this
this
ceremony,
the
ship
is
open
today,
as
an
open
house,
we
ask
if
you
can
afford
it
to
put
a
small
donation
in
the
donation
box
to
help
with
the
defraying
the
costs
of
keeping
the
ship
afloat.
