The
library
became
forgotten
dust
gathered
thicker
on
the
books
with
every
day
that
passed,
mold
and
bookworms
digested
their
paper
with
thanks
for
the
lack
of
disturbance,
mice
made
their
nest
in
the
newspapers
and
tendrils
of
ivy
found
their
way
in
wound
up,
table
legs
and
encircled.
The
carved
figurine
of
a
woman
captivated
by
the
open
book
in
her
hands
until
one
day
a
child
was
born,
who
was
destined
to
bring
change
when
the
baby
became
a
girl.
Her
grandmother
named
her
hope
and
gifted
her
a
book
of
tales.
A
A
She
would
read
whatever
she
could
get
her
hands
on
and,
as
the
people
of
the
town
came
to
know
of
her
voracious
appetite
they
passed
on
any
books.
They
still
had
her
friends,
multiplied
clamoring
for
her
to
read
aloud
again
and
again,
requesting
a
story
strange
or
funny
or
scary
or
sweet,
and
no
matter
how
often
her
parents
called
her
to
come,
learn
the
family
business
which
she
should
be
taking
over
in
due
course.
A
A
A
She
took
down
the
books
entitled
running
a
library
for
specialists
in
easy
steps
and
running
raising
funds
in
difficult
times
and
brandish
them
high
in
the
air
first,
a
job
possible
without
absorbing
the
contents
of
her
new
guides.
She
began
to
peel
layers
of
ivy
off
to
discover
what
statue
stood
atop,
the
central
table.
A
She
uncovered
hands,
proffering
a
book,
then
a
phrase
expressing
a
feeling
so
dear
and
familiar
to
her
that
hope
felt
moved
to
bend
and
kiss
the
eyes
which
appeared
to
be
gently
closed,
declaring
awake
at
the
slightest
touch
of
her
lips.
The
figurine
began
to
glow
the
light
brightening
and
spreading
over
her
whole
body
lit
up
from
within.
It.
