From YouTube: Ghost story with Ian
Description
In this video, Ian tells us a ghost story based on an old folk song, The Suffolk Miracle. This ghost story is intended for adults.
A
The
relations
between
king,
charles
and
his
parliament
have
broken
down
and
although
both
sides
were
still
talking
about
peace,
they
were
in
fact
actively
preparing
for
war,
not
that
it
took
the
breakdown
of
social
order
to
give
some
people
an
excuse
to
fall
out
with
their
neighbors,
take
malachi,
martin
and
uriah
amy.
As
a
case
in
point,
malachi
martin
was
a
well-to-do,
wealthy
suffolk
farmer.
A
He
was
a
died
in
the
world
puritan
for
him.
Life
was
all
about
hard
work,
bible
study,
prayer
and
praising
the
lord
for
his
manifold
and
great
mercies,
his
neighbor
uriah
amy.
Well,
he
was
the
local
squire,
a
true
blue
royalist,
a
complete
hedonist
for
him.
Life
was
about
celebration.
It
was
about
hunting
and
hawking
wine.
Women
and
song.
A
A
Malachi
was
busy
recruiting
horse.
Troopers
to
fight
for
parliament
under
the
local
mp,
oliver
cromwell
and
uriah,
he
was
busy
recruiting
foot
soldiers
to
fight
for
the
king,
which
made
life
rather
awkward
for
young
mercy
and
william
mercy.
Martin
was
malachi's
only
daughter.
She
was
the
apple
of
her
father's
eye.
She
was
fair
and
pretty
like
her
mother.
She
was
studious
and
pious
like
her
father
and
william
amy.
A
A
Well,
it
was
september
1642.
The
country
was
in
a
complete
panic
because
the
king
had
raised
the
royal
standard
at
nottingham,
so
that
was
it.
It
was
official
the
talking
had
finished.
It
was
war,
and
that
was
when
malachi
found
out
about
the
budding
relationship
between
his
daughter
and
his
enemy
son.
A
A
A
It
was
a
handkerchief,
a
fine,
linen
handkerchief,
edged
with
a
delicate
froth
of
lace
and
with
a
strawberry
neatly
embroidered
in
one
corner
and
when
he
gave
it
to
her.
He
said
take
this:
it's
my
mother's
work
and
when
you
look
on
the
strawberry
think
on
my
heart,
because
it's
not
the
strawberry,
the
symbol
and
the
fruit
of
venus,
the
goddess
of
love
and
to
that
pious,
studious,
young
woman,
the
thought
of
owning
a
love
token,
with
the
symbol
of
a
pagan,
love
goddess
on
it.
A
Next
morning,
mercy
was
gone
well.
If
malachi
was
hoping
that
separating
them
was
going
to
stop
mercy
from
thinking
about
william.
He
was
sadly
wrong.
I
mean
they
don't
say.
Absence
makes
the
heart
grow
fonder
for
nothing
and
as
soon
as
she
was
away
from
william,
she
began
to
pine
for
him
and
days
turned
into
weeks.
A
September
ended
october,
came
october,
had
nearly
finished,
and
the
year
had
entered
that
odd
period
when
the
veil
between
the
two
worlds
grows
very,
very
thin
and
strange
things
are
seen
and
heard,
and
it
was
the
night
of
all
hallows
eve.
It
had
just
grown
dark
when
suddenly
there
was
a
knock
on
the
door
of
mercy's,
uncle's
house
and
mercy
went
and
answered
the
door,
and
there
there
to
her
great
joy
was
william.
A
He
was
riding
her
father's
favorite
horse
and
clutched.
In
his
left
hand,
there
was
yes,
it
was
one
of
her
mother's
lace.
Caps,
I've
come
to
take
you
home
was
all
he
said,
were
mercy,
rushed
inside
and
she
told
her
uncle.
Who
was
at
the
door
and
what
signs
he
had
with
him
and
her
uncle
said
well,
look.
My
brother
has
obviously
forgiven
you
go
with
william,
don't
bother
to
pack
just
go
we'll,
send
your
things
on
later
and
so
mercy
went
back
out.
She
threw
a
cloak
around
her
shoulders.
A
A
Well,
they
rode
long
and
hard
and
they
rode
in
silence
and
after
an
hour
or
two
william,
began
to
groan
and
complain
that
his
head
was
feeling
sore
and
so
mercy
got
him
to
stop
the
horse
and
she
got
off
and
she
found
a
stream.
She
took
a
handkerchief,
the
one
that
william
had
given
to
her.
She
soaked
it
in
the
stream
rang
it
out,
and
then
she
bound
it
round
his
forehead
to
cool
and
soothe
his
head
and
they
carried
on
riding
well.
A
It
was
the
small
hours
of
the
morning
when
they
got
back
to
malachi's
farm
and
william
set
mercy
down
at
the
door
and
said
you
go
and
speak
to
your
father,
r
c
to
the
horse,
and
he
took
the
horse
across
the
yard
into
the
stable
mercy
began
to
knock
at
the
door
and
after
a
minute
or
two
a
window
opened
and
a
father's
head
appeared
in
the
window
and
said.
Who
is
that
disturbing
us
at
this
unholy
hour
of
the
morning
and
she
called
out
father?
It's
me:
it's
mercy
mercy.
A
A
Well,
at
the
mention
of
william's
name,
the
blood
drained
from
malachi's
face
and
he
tottered
out
into
the
stable
yard,
with
the
candle
in
his
hand,
shielding
the
flame
with
his
hand.
He
got
to
the
stable
and
stepped
inside
the
shadows,
fluttered
and
pulsed,
and
danced
in
the
flickering
light
of
the
candle
something
rustled
through
the
hay.
A
A
A
William
amy
came
to
your
brother's
house.
He
was
riding
your
horse.
He
had
mother's
lace,
cap
in
his
hand,
he
said
he'd
come
to
bring
me
home
and
a
father
cut
her
short
at
that
part,
and
he
said
william
amy
came
here
six
weeks
back.
He
was
raving
that
he
and
you
were
in
love
and
that
you
wanted
to
get
married
and
mercy
said,
but
that's
true
father.
We
do
love
each
other.
We
want
to
get
married
and
then
then
mercy
caught
the
shifty
look
in
her
father's
eye
and
she
said
what
did
you
do?
A
Father
well,
malachi
drew
himself
up
to
his
full
height
and
he
he
rumped
a
few
times.
His
face
was
looking
very
pale
and
action
and
he
passed
his
hand
over
it
for
a
moment-
and
he
said
I
denounced
william
amy
to
the
committee
of
safety
and
he
was
hung
for
the
royalist
dog
that
he
was.
His
body
lies
out
under
the
gallows
tree.
A
Next
morning,
mercy
was
up
early.
She
went
out
of
the
house
dragging
a
reluctant
servant
with
her.
They
came
to
where
the
gallows
tree
stood
dripping
for
longly
in
the
early
morning,
mist
and
she
located
williams
grave
and
she
started
to
dig
pulling
the
earth
apart
with
her
bare
hands
and
soon
she
had
uncovered
william's
body
was
six
weeks
in
the
cold.
Cold
clay
had
not
been
kind
to
william's,
handsome
good
looks,
but
it
it
wasn't.
The
sight
of
his
mouldering
worm
ravaged
face
that
called
mercy
to
cry
out
and
faint.
