From YouTube: The Squirrel and the Door by Fiona
Description
In today's video Fiona from Southbourne library reads a story she wrote about a squirrel's visit to the library! The story was illustrated by Katy from Bournemouth library.
A
Hi
everybody,
my
name's
Fiona
and
today
I'm,
going
to
read
you
one
of
my
stories.
It's
called
the
squirrel
on
the
door
and
it's
inspired
by
true
events
at
south
born
library,
the
squirrel
and
the
door
brush
tail
was
in
town.
She
had
inadvertently
hitched
a
ride
from
the
new
forest
countryside
with
a
load
of
logs
on
the
back
of
a
lorry.
It
wasn't
until
the
lorry
stopped
to
let
some
humans
cross
the
road
that
she
had
the
chance
to
jump
down
onto
the
hard
ground
alongside
the
noise
of
cars
regularly
whooshing
past
and
humans.
A
Talking
as
I
strode
along
was
incredible.
She
had
to
scamper
out
of
the
way
of
several
dogs
pulling
their
humans
about
and
from
freewheel
parts
of
human
youngsters
in
that
took
up
most
of
the
space
on
the
road
side
paths.
It
was
all
somewhat
overwhelming
for
a
squirrel
used
to
the
woods
of
the
new
forest,
where
the
most
disturbing
thing
on
an
average
day
might
be
a
donkey
with
its
loud
braying
rushed
pail,
run
away
from
the
noise
behind
a
large
building.
It
was
darker
and
quieter
and
she
spotted
a
sliver
of
light.
A
Coming
from
a
door
opening
into
what
seemed
to
be
a
quiet
space,
she
had
never
yet
been
inside
a
human
building
due
to
the
fear
of
getting
trapped
or
hurts,
but
here
in
town
it
seemed
to
be
the
better
alternative
to
being
outside.
She
snuck
in
the
atmosphere
inside
was
peaceful.
The
humans
spread
out
looking
at
things
on
shelves
sitting
in
front
of
screens
or
talking
quietly
to
each
other.
A
She
scampered
around
the
edge
of
the
room
guessing
her
bearings
staying
under
the
shelving
units
that
were
everywhere
so
as
to
remain
unseen.
The
fabric
under
her
feet
was
more
comfortable
than
the
hard
path
outside
a
little
closer
to
the
grass
and
forest
floor.
She
was
used
to.
She
saw
an
awful
lot
of
books
filling
the
building.
She
had
only
seen
one
at
a
time
before
when
a
human
was
doing
what
they
called
reading
the
guidebook
to
find
their
way
on
passing
the
which
seemed
completely
obvious
to
her.
A
It
wasn't
long
before
all
the
humans
left
and
the
lights
went
out
and
all
the
notice
she
had
the
place
to
herself.
She
climbed
up
the
shelves
and
run
along
the
tops.
Her
bushy
gray
tail
brushing
away
the
dust
that
had
covered
there.
She
circled
up
and
down
the
carousels
of
books,
which
were
a
little
like
tree
trunks,
if
not
quite
as
easy
to
grip
onto
as
bark
she
patted
over
the
black
boxes
in
front
of
the
screens,
which
clicked
and
tickled
under
her
feet.
A
At
one
point,
the
screams
made
her
jump
up
into
the
air
when
they
said
in
a
funny
voice
virus
update,
complete
now
freezing
she
had
just
curled
up
for
a
rest.
In
a
homemade
nest
of
software
break
she'd
found
in
the
area,
she
could
smell
the
human
youngsters
frequented
when
the
front
door
opened
and
a
human
came
in
brushed
her
watched
and
waited
what
she
need
to
seek
a
hidey
hole
at
first.
A
The
other
way
round,
under
the
tables
by
the
screens
and
back
and
forth
across
the
youngsters
area,
which
tells
quite
accelerated
by
all
the
running
around,
especially
as
a
human,
was
nowhere
close
to
catching
her.
Eventually,
the
human
gave
up,
saying
I'll
have
to
stop
cleaning
and
report
it
for
them
to
sort
in
the
morning.
A
After
all,
the
exercise
brushed
I
was
feeling
somewhat
peckish
and
there
was
a
tantalizing
smell
of
nuts
coming
from
somewhere.
She
went
through
a
door
into
a
smaller
part
of
the
building
where
the
smell
of
nuts
and
other
foods
were
strongest.
She
jumped
up
onto
a
table
and
then,
as
far
as
she
could
across
to
a
small
door,
which
was
just
a
jar
hooked,
a
front
paw
on
the
door,
but
it
was
slippery
and
she
lost
her
balance
and
fell
chattering
angrily
onto
the
floor.
A
A
She
quickly
found
the
packet
and
taurine
and
consumed
the
whole
nuts,
which
were
a
new
kind
to
her
and
most
delicious.
The
jar
proved
more
difficult
to
get
into,
but
after
some
effort
with
paws
and
teeth,
it
came
open
and
she
licked
out
every
last
scrap
of
a
crushed
nuts
within
dessert
was
some
rather
nice
small
round
fruits.
In
bunches
she
found
on
the
table,
colorful
and
sweet
and
tasty
and
a
cup
with
water
inside,
provided
a
crunching
drink
and
so
to
sleep,
surrounded
by
some
books.
A
She
had
found
and
pulled
out
of
boxes
and
off
shells
with
pictures
of
squirrels,
donkeys,
pigs
or
trees
on
the
fence
to
help
us
out
feel
more
at
home.
The
next
morning
she
was
woken
by
lady
shooing,
her
towards
the
door.
Her
arms
flapping
around
wildly
but
brushed
I
was
quite
content,
stay
for
a
bit
longer,
so
she
declined
to
go
out
and
ran
to
the
back
of
the
building
more
humans
pointed
out
where
she
was
excitedly.
One
seemed
scared
and
jumped
up
on
top
of
a
table,
and
one
even
took
a
picture
of
her.
A
Some
tried
to
encourage
her
out
the
door.
They
had
opened
at
the
back
after
some
more
darting
back
and
forward
rushed
her
got
the
message
that
maybe
it
was
time
to
move
on
and
explore
some
more
of
the
town.
After
all,
this
was
just
one
building,
even
if
it
had
proved
to
be
most
pleasant
and
well
kitted
out.
She
dashed
out
the
front
door
and
round
the
side
of
the
building
under
a
hedge
while
she
considered,
which
way
to
go
what
she
wasn't
most
liked
to
see.
A
Maybe
the
sea
and
beach
she'd
heard
a
donkey
talk
about.
It
was
from
under
the
hedge
that
she
heard
one
of
the
humans
saying
to
another.
Thanks
to
that
squirrel.
Coming
into
the
library
you
know,
the
rear
fire
exit
door
doesn't
close
properly
and
can
get
it
mended
straight
away,
rushed
out
flicked
a
tail
proudly
and
headed
off
to
explore
a
bit
more
of
warmer.
