A
A
Okay,
it
is
five
o'clock,
so
I
would
like
to
call
this
meeting
of
the
Beaufort
County
School
District
agenda,
setting
meeting
to
order
please
the
first
order
of
business
is
to
stand
for
the
Pledge
of
Allegiance
I
pledge
allegiance
to
the
flag,
the
United
States
of
America,
and
to
the
Republic
for
which
it
stands.
One
nation
under
God
indivisible
with
liberty
and
justice
for
all
Maybe
Miss
Middleton.
Would
you
like
to
make
a
motion
to
approve
the
agenda.
A
A
No
you're,
no
ma'am,
okay,
all
right.
So
the
next
order
of
business
is
approval
of
the
October
11th
committee
meeting
minutes.
A
Okay
and
I
will
second
that
any
discussion,
none
all
those
in
favor,
say
aye
aye,
so
that's
2-0.
So
that
gets
us
to
the
focus
of
today's
meeting,
which
is
setting
the
November
1st
the
agenda
for
the
November
1st
meeting
so
Dr
r.
C
Okay,
yes,
so
on
the
executive
session,
we'll
have
an
adult,
ed,
homeschool
report,.
C
D
So
I
also
have
on
their
employment
matter.
Yes,
personal.
C
I
spoke
with
Wendy
today,
and
she
said
she
did
not
have
a
legal
update
at
this
time.
This.
A
So
do
you
think
in
hours
enough
time
with
the
sometimes
land
purchases
tend
to
get
lengthy.
C
I
think
it
probably
is
I
would
suggest,
but
if
but
I'm
but
I'm
happy
to
go
at
4
30.
If,
if
we
want
that
cushion
just
in
case
okay.
A
D
A
Then
we
move
in
to
public
session.
Those
things
are
customary,
Shanklin
Elementary
will
be
doing
a
student
performance
and
points
of
Celebration.
Then
we
get
into
first
public
comments.
Committee
reports
is
policy
committee,
the
only
committee
that
will
be
having
a
report
Robin.
C
Under
superintendent's
report
under
student
achievement,
we're
going
to
have
a
teaching
and
learning
update.
C
It'll
be
called
teaching
and
learning
update.
Barry
has
several
items
that
she'd
like
to
just
update
the
board
on
in
terms
of
teaching
and
learning
and
then
under
other
matters.
At
the
last
board
meeting
I
think
there
was
a
future
topics,
request
on
the
the
library,
media
services
and
and
books,
and
so
we'll
under
other
matters,
we'll
list
the
library,
media
services.
C
I
I
would
I'll
have
to
work
on
the
title
of
it,
but
I'll
think
if
we
just
leave
that
right
now
as
a
placeholder,
if
that's
okay
with
everyone,
the
intent
there
is
to
is
to
get
at
what
the
future
topics
request
was
I.
Think
so.
A
Okay,
we
also
have
written
down
the
community
project,
Review
Committee.
C
I
mean
I
I,
I
I,
don't
know
what
I
would
say
other
than
okay
I'm
moving
forward.
You
know.
A
C
Yeah
go
ahead
is
what
comes
out
of
policy
committee.
Is
that
something
that
would
require
a
full
board
vote.
A
Yes,
yes
and
I
believe
Rachel
and
Trisha
are
both
on
I
believe
it
requires
a
vote,
two
readings
that
this
would
be
the
first
reading,
so
yeah.
E
Okay,
go
ahead,
I
had
put
my
hand,
I
would
put
the
person
I
think
it
should
go
into
the
policy
committee
report
because
I
think
Trisha
has
some
good
background
on
that
and
we
can
provide
feedback
and
just
put
the
the
language
of
that
that
motion
or
that
policy
as
a
subheading
with
policy
committees
report
so
that
everybody
can
look
at
it
beforehand.
A
Now
we
did
get
another
request
and
I
it
kind
of
ties
into
a
request-
we've
gotten
from
Mr
Campbell
before,
but
we
had
a
a
request
about
vaping
and
a
discussion
about
vaping
in
in
the
fact
that
it's
difficult
for
students
to
use
bathrooms.
C
To
wonder
what
that
conversation
would
look
like,
I
mean
ultimately,
I
think
what
has
to
happen
is,
is
you
know
you
can't,
have
you
know,
cameras
and
bathrooms
right?
So,
ultimately,
what
has
to
happen
is
you
know,
there's
there's
just
staff
has
to
continuously
and
go
in
and
out
of
those
bathrooms
you
know
to
to
deter.
C
You
know,
students
from
going
in
there
for,
for
that
purpose,
I
mean
but
I,
don't
know
what
not
sure
what
what
we
would
talk
about.
Other
than
that
you
know,
yeah.
A
I
think
there
was
some
ideas
about
explorate,
exploring
some
programs
that
other
school
districts
are
using.
Apparently
that
are
not
cameras,
okay
and
I.
Think
we
also
at
one
point
discussed
whether
this
would
be
a
you
know:
a
work
session,
yeah
item
Robin
was
this
on
our
list
from
before.
F
G
G
My
concern
with
the
vaping
is
that
I
have
spoken
to
a
lot
of
teachers,
other
students
and
folks
that
work
in
schools
and
they're,
saying
to
me
that
these
students
get
to
get
a
slap
on
the
wrist
and
that's
it
and
and
I
want
to
see
that
they
don't
staying
if
they
get
caught
in
in
the
bathrooms
doing
that,
then
they
should
be
out
of
school
put
out
of
school
period.
That's
just
my
my
thing.
That's
what
teachers
are
saying
also.
E
Thank
you,
I
I
think
that
this
would
be
a
discussion
item.
I
think
that
there,
some
of
the
different
points
of
information
that
we
would
need
to
know
would
be
what
the
present
policies
are,
if
any
on
the
discipline
Matrix.
E
If
this
could
be
something
that
the
board
wanted
to
suggest
to
the
citizen
committee,
that's
reviewing
for
the
next
referendum,
because
I
see
that
as
being
a
a
large
ticket
item,
if
we
did
need
to
purchase
something
for
that,
so
I
I
largely
see
it
as
being
a
discussion
item.
But
there
is
some
information
that
we
need
from
the
district
on
that.
A
F
Thank
you
Kathy.
Yes,
this
was
my
request.
I've
heard
from
several
parents,
especially
when
I
went
to
the
Beaufort
High
School
sic
meeting
that
they're
very
interested
in
having
the
district
just
discuss
this
topic,
they're
saying
that
just
like
Mr
Campbell
said
kids
are
not
able
to
go
into
the
bathrooms
because.
G
F
Vaping
going
on
there
and
that
there
are
all
different
kinds
of
substances
inside
the
The,
Vape
pen
or
whatever
you
call
it
so
I
think
it's
important
that
we
have
a
discussion
like
Rachel
just
said
we
did
all
receive
a
very
lengthy
email
about
those
Halo
devices
that
supposedly
detect
The
Vaping.
They
are
a
big
ticket
item,
but
I
would
like
to
see
just
even
a
conversation
about
about
vaping.
What
is
the
discipline
when
a
student
is
found-
and
you
know
just
a
discussion
on
that?
Thank
you.
C
So
is
that
something
that
you
want
to
add
under
other
matters.
A
A
And
you
know
if
anybody
at
the
district
level
has
any
knowledge
of
yeah
it'd
be
interesting.
You
know
data
and
how
principles
you
know
what
what?
What
are
the
High
School
principles.
C
Okay,
now
I
think,
ultimately,
when
you're
dealing
with
things
like
this,
you
know
this
reminds
me
of
going
back
to
the
1980s
with
the
say
no
to
drugs
and
campaign,
and
all
that
kind
of
stuff
I
mean
this
is
ultimately
not
I
mean
we
can
we.
We
can't
punish
our
way
out
of
this
right
right.
C
So
so,
ultimately,
this
does
have
to
become
a
community-wide
effort
and
thing
for
people
are
monitoring
also
their
own
children
in
terms
of
what
they
have
in
their
backpacks
and
what
their
what
they're
carrying
around
you
know.
It's
not
the
kind
of
thing
that
that
I
think
a
child
can
effectively.
C
You
know
hide
at
home
right
I
mean
if
you're,
if,
if
you're,
if
you're
vaping,
you
know
you're
you're
going
to
get
hooked
on
that
and
you're
gonna
Vape
all
the
time
you
know
so
I
think
I
think
we
these
these
items
that
we
talked
about
here.
We
can
certainly
address,
but
ultimately
it's
not
really
a
a
a
a
thing
that
we
can
punish
our
way
out
of
you
know
we're
going
to
need
a
community-wide
effort
around
this.
H
D
A
A
Thank
you,
yeah
Trisha.
You
were
at
that
sic
meeting,
so
maybe
right
we
have
more
or
even
received
more
okay.
All
right.
Thank
you.
D
D
A
D
A
Yep
so
work
session,
yeah
I,
think
everything
that
is
has
been
brought
up
is
on
this
list.
To
my
knowledge,
yes
and.
H
I
requested
something
that's
not
on
that
list.
What.
H
A
Discussed
it
back
at
one
of
our
other
at
our
previous
agenda.
H
This
well,
you
well
yeah,
well,
I
I
thought
that
that
would
that
would
the
initial
meeting
would
need
to
would
would
be
better
better
taking
it
at
the
at
about
a
regular
meeting
and
then
put
and
then
possibly
be
sent
to
the
work
session,
because
I
mean
you
know
we're
just
going
You're
Just
in
that
school
start
times,
I
mean
I.
I!
Think
that
you,
you
would
need
more
information.
So
you
can
know
exactly
what
you
want
to
go
into
the
work
session,
but
I'll
leave
that
there.
A
You
brought
it
up:
Mr
Swift,
if
you'd
like
to
provide
additional
information.
So
when
we
take
it
to
the
work
session,
we
can
have
a
clear
idea
of
what
exactly
is
your
you
know
what
you
want
to
know
what
you
want
discussed.
H
A
Well,
I,
disagree,
I,
I!
Think
you
need
you
brought
up
the
topic.
It
seems
pretty
succinct
to
me.
You
know,
but
if
there's
something
in
addition
that
you
would
like,
then
please
let
the
officers
know
and
then
we
can
revisit
that.
A
A
Is
Rachel?
Are
you
still
on
I
think
you
know
this?
One
is
a
little
bit
more
about
how
we
go
about
selecting
materials
and
and
that
process
versus.
E
A
C
Yes,
we're
we're
we're
going
to
work
at
addressing
this
at
the
meeting
and
if
there's
more
that
needs
conversation,
then
then
we'll
keep
moving,
but
we'll
we'll
have
a.
We
can
add
it.
A
Right
perfect,
so
I
think
that
our
next
agenda
setting
meeting
will
tackle
the
second
November
meeting
as
well
as
the
work
session.
So
anybody
have
anything
else
for
this
agenda
setting
before
we.
