The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office works closely with local media to help keep the community up-to-date and informed about important safety issues and to raise awareness about Sheriff’s Office initiatives, public health concerns, such as drug overdoses, as well as potential threats to area, including major storms and criminal activity.
The public information team responds promptly to all media inquiries and can help guide you to the resources needed for publication or broadcast.

off
to
college
and
went
to
come
back,
serve
the
same
Community.

help
raise

done
multiple
things
for
the
sheriff's
office,
but
my
current
position,
I
have

go
around
doing
crime
prevention
and
safety
talks
presentations,
no
matter
if
it's
old
or
young,
it
doesn't
matter
the
setting,
try
to
go
to
as
many
places
in
our
County
as
possible.

to
include
other
deputies
along
with
us
when
that's
when
we're
able
to.

scam
talks
to
active
shooter
talks
or
just
other
presentations,
but
I
also
assist
you
now
with
our
plumbing
information
and
so
again
just
trying
to
get
as
much
information
out
to
our
public
as
possible.

is
through
knowledge

giving
them
more

Beaufort
County

went
to
College
was
in
television
lived
across
the
country
in
a
lot
of
different
places.
Over
the
last
12
years
came
home,
worked
at
Botanical.
Bluffton
are
now
thrilled

with
the
sheriff's
office.
We
have
really
ramped
up,
like
you
said,
on
social
media
kind
of
highlighting
what
the
agency
does.
We
have
so
many
men
and
women
who
are
part
of
this
agency,
who
have
so
many
amazing
qualities
but
they're
also
out
in
the
community.

awesome

Showcase

our
public
know

know

men

women
who
are

neighbors

who
are
there
for
you

you
need
them
so
we've
started
several
different
campaigns.

guess
the

thing
we're
really
known
for
is
the
Deputy
dog
right
now,
because
we're
trying
to
help
Hilton,
Head
Humane
get
some
dogs
adopted.

always
put
out
traffic
tips
on
every
Tuesday.
We
have
our
traffic
traffic
tip.
Tuesday
Thursdays
is
get
to
know
your
bcso,
so
we
highlight
an
employee
with
the
agency
and
kind
of
give
you
their
background

well
as
a
photo.
Friday
is
our
Deputy
dog,
and
then
we
have
the
90
Camp
routine,
that
kind
of
flips
around
throughout
the
weekend
and
the
week
just
to
remind
folks
to
make
sure
they
have
their
vehicles
locked
their
homes,
locked
and
everything
basically
is
locked
up.
So
it
kind
of
helps
with
that
issues.

holiday
season
now,

means
you
know
everyone's
out-
there
shopping
for
Christmas
gifts
and
preparing
for
parties
and
New
Years
and
all
of
that
stuff.

order
to
make
sure
everybody
is

prepared

in
the
loop
of
what
they
can
do
to
be
safe

from
shopping,
porch,

to

holidays
responsibly

being

what
one

tell
folks
please
be
careful
online,
though
make
sure
that
you're
on
actual
safe
and
known
websites,
don't
shop
like
if
you're
on
social
media
and
a
pop-up
comes
up,
try
not
to
click
on
those
pop-ups.
I
know
it's
hard
to
do,
but
try
not
to
click
on
those
pop-ups
and
definitely
don't
shop
from
those
actual
pop-ups,
don't
shop
from
other
links
as
well
and
again
make
sure
they're
on
secure
websites.

If
you
have
a
lot
of
items,
one
it's
a
distraction,
you
can't
really
see
around
you
two
if
you're
dropping
a
lot
of
stuff
in
your
car
and
then
leaving
back
off,
they
now
know
their
stuff
in
the
car.
If
you
do
have
items,
try
to
take
them
and
in
small
bursts
to
the
car,
but
also
try
to
have
those
things
covered.
If
you
have
an
actual
trunk
to
your
car,
put
them
in
the
trunk.

you
have
like
an
SUV
or
a
truck,
and
you
may
not
have
the
trunk
try
to
put
it
kind
of
out
of
sight
out
of
mind,
especially
bigger
name
items,
you
get
that
PS5
or
something
else
for
the
kids.
Try
not
to
have
that
where
it's
visible
for
everyone
to
see
so
that'll
be
something
else
too,
and
we
can't
stress
it
enough.
Please
make
sure
you
lock
your
doors.
That
is
our
number
one
issue,
whether
it's
from
distractions
or
other
things.

if
something,
if
someone
does
go
in
your
car,
it
may
be
caught
on
some
type
of
footage
going
back
to
ordering
things
if
you're
having
items
come
to
your
house,
and
you
may
still
be
at
work
or
you
may
be
going
out
of
town
that
try
to
have
cameras
at
your
house,
if
you
can
just
in
case
it
does
catch
someone
trying
to
steal
items
off
of
your
porch,
some
of
the
when
you
do
some
of
your
ordering.
Sometimes
you
can
designate
the
time
frame.

want
it
to
be
delivered,
but
if
not
try
to
talk
to
a
trusted,
neighbor
trusted
friend
or
family
member,
who
may
be
able
to
watch
out
for
your
items
as
well
and
may
be
able
to
move
those
items
out
of
the
way
for
you,
especially
if
you're
going
out
of
town,
because
there
may
be
a
number
of
items
that
are
delivered
while
you're
not
there,
and
you
definitely
don't
want
those
items
sitting
out
the
whole
time
while
you're
gone.
So
those
are
some
things.

be
careful

around

holidays,
especially
coming
up
on
New
Year's.
We
have
a
lot
of
holiday
parties
or
get-togethers
and
we
want
to
ensure
enjoy
each
other's
company
and
time,
but
please
be
mindful
of
drinking
and
driving
it's
too
many
ways.
Somebody
can
try
to
get
home
safely
to
still
be
out
here,
drinking
and
driving,
and
we
don't
want
to
risk
someone
else's
life.

responsible
child
at
home.
You
really
can't
sit
on
an
age
limit
but
make
sure
there's
a
responsible
child
at
home
that
can
look
out
for
the
other
ones.
Some
of
us
live
around
family
members,
so
it
make
sure
that
other
family
members
know
that
the
kids
are
home
and
that
they're
home
alone,
so
someone
can
go
and
check
on
them.
If
you
can't
have
somebody
there
the
whole
time
again,
cameras
may
be
a
a
good
thing.

can
add
a
camera
inside
the
house
to
kind
of
watch
out,
but
also
have
those
safety
conversations
with
your
kids.
You
know,
don't
touch
the
stove
or
don't
cut
anything
on
if
nobody's
here
and
don't
go
into
certain
things
or

play
around
with
certain
items
when
no
one's
home,
but
having
that
check-in
with
those
kids
and
having
a
way
for
them,
because
a
lot
of
people
no
longer
have
a
house
phone.

way
of
actually
calling

help
if
no
one
is
actually
home
because
the
kid
may
not
have
a
cell
from
and
they
may
not
be
a
house
phone?
So
do
they
know
a
trusted
adult
a
trusted
neighbor
they

run

or
some
other
way
that
they
can
actually
contact
someone
for
help
if
they
needed
to
and
please
let
the
kids
know
we
don't
play
around
with
9-1-1
calling
9-1-1

are
there
for
your
safety.

register
your
cameras
with

Beaver

Sheriff's

does
not
give
us
access
to
the
camera.

can't
just
go
in
there
and
look
and
see
what
Christmas
gifts
Santa
has
dropped

if
we
know
that
there

been
a
crime
or
something
else
in
the
area
that
gives
us
an
idea
of
how
many
homes
or
residents

the
area
may
have
cameras.
So
we
can
contact
those
homeowners
to
try
to
see
what
they
may
have
found
on
their
cameras.

Snyder,
the
Beaufort
County
Sheriff's
office,
has
received
hundreds
of
reports
of
vehicle
break-ins.
This
is
a
crime
you
can
help
prevent.
Please
lock
your
vehicle
at
all
times
when
unattended.
This
includes
making
sure
the
windows
are
rolled
up.
If
you
have
to
leave
property
inside
your
vehicle
hide
it.
However,
we
urge
you
to
remove
anything
of
value,
and
this
includes
any
weapons.
We
don't
want
those
falling
into
the
wrong
hands,
be
proactive,
decrease
the
odds
of
you
becoming
a
victim
of
a
crime.

to
meet
certain
requirements.

have

that
full-time
caregiver
who's

the

patient

their
loved

wearing
that
device.
The
device
is
working
properly.
So
there
are
a
few
things,
the
steps
they
have
to
take,
but
it's
a
free
resource
we
offer
to
the
citizens
of
this
County

down

there's
just
the
technology
right

out
there
with
cell
phones
and
GPS.

wears
batteries.
We're
constantly

couple
days
having
charge
our
cell
phone
batteries

like

so
that
technologist
hasn't
caught
up
to
a
point
where
we
can
actually
offer
that
loved
one
that
type
of
device-
and
we
know
it's
going
to

work
for
so
many
days

Beaufort
County
Sheriff's
Office

proud

be
partnering

Hilton
Head
Humane.
We
are
partnering
with
them
to
help
find
shelter,
dogs,
a
home.
It's
a
program
called
Deputy
doc.
Each
week
a
terrier
mixed
breed
dog
is
featured
as
the
Beaufort
County
Sheriff's
Office
Deputy
dog.
The
pups
featured
come
from
various
background
situations
and
are
now
looking
for
a
loving
forever
home.
We.

Have
been
in
sync
with
Hilton
Head
Humane
now
for
about
a
month
to
make
sure
that
we
are
doing
everything
that
we
can
at
the
Sheriff's
Office
to
encourage
people
in
Beaufort
County
to
adopt
a
pet.
The
feature
right
now
is
pit
bulls,
they're
largely
misunderstood
to
some
extent,
but
if
you
visit
Hilton
Head
humane,
you
will
see
a
great
group
of
dogs
that
are
wonderful
and
would
be
great
at
your
home.
At
the
same
time,
you're
welcome
to
look
at
all
the
other
pets
that
need
a
home.

held
for
five
days,
we
do
initial
intake
shots
just
to
put
them
back
in
the
kennels,
but
then
they
go
through
a
full
medical
program.
They're
tested
for
heartworm

altered
if
they're
not
altered,
they're,
microchipped
and
also
they're
behaviorally
assessed,
so
everyone
gets
assessed,
and
so
then
we
get
a
little
bit
more
idea
of
who
can
they
be
with?

family

park

beach

every
pet
adopted
I
mean
in
the
perfect
world
here

Beaufort
County,
you
know
our
population
has
grown,
our
pet
population
has
grown,
but
also
at
our
shelters
like
Beaufort,
County,
shelter
and
Hilton,
Head,
Humane
and
charm,
and
some
of
the
other
ones
that
are
close
to
our
area.
There's
a
lot
of
pests
that
need
a
forever
home
and
we
have.
We
have
the
ability
to
do
it
in
Beaufort,
County,
I,
think
every
home
should
have
at
least
two
dogs,
maybe
a
couple
cats.
If
we
were.

officers
are
very
much
animal
people,
they
love
the
dogs
and
when
you
have
that
chemistry
and
that
relationship
with
people
from
the
sheriff's
office
that
really
want
to
see
a
difference
in
the
lives
of
these
dogs,
it
makes
it

tremendous
difference.
So
we
can't
be
more
thrilled
about
how
their
input
and
getting
this
word
out
and
how
important
it
is,
is
very
valuable
to
us.

fairly
simple,
especially
since
most
of
the
application
process
is
done

frames
necessary

suggest

someone

position

own
specific

everything

age

background

even
citizenship.
Some
there
is
a
position
where
citizenship
is
not
actually
required
for
it
within
our
agency,
so
it
is
definitely
worth
taking
a
look

I
was
at
the
14
circuit
solicitors
office
for
about
two
to
three
years:
working
with
solicitor,
Stone
Prosecuting
cases
anywhere
from
misdemeanor
cases
up
to
felony
cases.
Prior
to
that,
I
was
an
Assistant
Attorney
General
with
the
South
Carolina
attorney
general's
office
for
about
45
years
in
both
their
post-conviction
relief
Division
and
their
internet
crimes
against
children,
division,
Prosecuting,
child
sex
crimes.

I
want
to
talk
to
you
a
little
bit
about
being
the
victim
of
a
crime
and
navigating
the
court
system.
Many
times
our
citizens
or
community
members.
Their
first
encounter
with
law
enforcement
may
be
as
a
victim.
Tell
me
what
a
victim
should
expect
when
navigating
through
Magistrate's
court
as
a
victim
and
then
through
General
Sessions
right.

So
our
magistrate
court
cases
that
go
from
zero
to
90
day
offenses
with
a
few
exceptions,
are
always
going
to
be
in
our
magistrate.
Quarry
and
our
magistrate
court
is
split
between
two
jurisdictions
or
we
have
our
South
Side
magistrate
in
Bluffton,
our
North
Side
magistrate
in
Beaufort,
the
deputies
with
Beaufort
County,
Sheriff's
Office
prosecute
their
own
cases,
a
magistrate
court,
so
they
will
be
our
primary
contact
with
our
victims.
Of
course,
you
can
always
reach
out
to
the
Beaufort
County
Sheriff's
Office.

We
have
our
own
in-house
victim
Advocates
as
well
that
support
our
deputies
in
that
role,
but
Magistrate
Court
moves
rather
quickly
within
30
days.
Typically,
the
case
is
scheduled
either
on
the
deputy's
next
traffic
court
date
or
a
particular
date
that's
assigned
to
the
deputy
for
what's
for
their
essentially
their
initial
appearance.
So
between
that
first
30
days,
you
should
receive
a
notice
from
the
Beaufort
County
Magistrate's
court,
notifying
them
of
that
traffic
court
date.
It's
best.

If
you
do
appear,
if
you
don't
want
to
appear,
you
certainly
don't
have
to
as
a
victim,
but
it's
always
beneficial.
If
you
do
appear,
you
can
always
reach
out
to
the
deputy
who
made
the
arrest
or
you
can
reach
out
to
our
sheriff's
office
and
get
in
contact
with
one
of
our
victim
Advocates
to
find
out
additional
information
at
that
point
in
time.
So.

A
victim
never
really
needs
a
lawyer
for
court
when
it
comes
to
a
criminal
court.
Of
course,
if
it's
a
criminal
case
and
there's
an
Associated
civil
case,
that's
going
to
result
in
some
sort
of
Damages
outside
of
that
criminal
venue.
Then
a
lawyer
would
always
be
advisable
and
it's
always
best
to
go
ahead
and
speak
with
an
attorney
just
to
find
out
and
make
sure
all
your
bases
are
covered.

That
so
General
assessment
score,
any
offense
that
carries
90
days
or
above
always
goes
to
journal
session
scores
and
those
are
prosecuted
by
our
14
circuit
solicitor's
office.
Within
the
solicitor's
office
there
are
victim
Advocates
there
that
are
available
to
communicate
with
the
victims
and
keep
them
up
to
date
as
the
process
moves
forward,
but
General
Sessions
Court
moves
a
little
bit
slower
than
Magistrate
Court,
just
because
the
sheer
volume
that's
taking
place,
I
think
right.

A
victim,
depending
on
the
type
of
case
the
victim
may
need
to
be
present
if
it's
a
domestic
violence
case
or
something
that
is
involving
testimony
from
the
victim,
they
could
be
present
for
that
they're
not
absolutely
necessary.
Siri
hearsay
is
allowed
and
preliminary
hearings,
so
the
deputy
can
testify
to
what
you
told
that
Deputy,
but
again
just
like
in
magistrate
court,
it's
always
best
if
the
victim
is
present
and
keeping
in
contact
with
the
solicitor
and
the
deputy
throughout
the
criminal
process.

Following
the
preliminary
hearing,
we
have
what's
called
an
indictment,
so
an
indictment
is
just
a
charging
document.
The
best
jurisdiction
to
the
journal,
Sessions,
Court
and
diamonds
typically
take
place
between
90
and
120
days.
The
victim
doesn't
need
to
be
aware
of
that
or
or
be
present
for
anything
at
that
point
in
time
it
just
simply
goes
to
a
grand
jury.
It's
completely
Anonymous
and
secret.
Our
grand
jury
is
made
up
of
18
members
of
Beaufort
County,
who
hear
from
the
deputy
regarding
facts
and
then
issue.
What's
called
a
true
bill
indictment.

We're
looking
at
approximately
three
months
for
indictment
and
at
that
point
that's
kind
of
the
Catalyst
that
gets
everything
going
in
the
criminal
court
for
General
Sessions.
So
at
that
point
the
assistant
solicitor
typically
makes
any
sort
of
recommendation
to
the
definitive
in
exchange
for
a
guilty
plea
or
try
to
decide
whether
or
not
they're
going
to
be
going
to
trial
within
that
90-day
time
period.

multiple
avenues
that
a
victim
can
reach
out
to
and
we
can
direct
them
in
the
right
place.
So
Sheriff's
Office
is
always
a
great
place
to
start.
If
you
can't
get
a
hold
of

deputies.

day
shift
and
night
shifts,
and
sometimes
our
deputies
just
aren't
accessible,

7,
but
our
Sheriff's
Office
is,
and
they
can
always
reach
out
to
them
and
we
can
get
them
in
the
necessary
contact.

the
common
signs
of
a
scam
can
help
you
avoid
falling
for
one
scammers
often
pretend
to
be
from
an
organization.

know
you
may
be
in
trouble
or
owe
money,
and
they
want
you
to
act
immediately.

never
ask
for
your
personal
information
via
phone
text
or
email.
