B
B
We
are
here
today
to
pay
tribute
to
our
Scholars
and
our
honor
students
who
have
distinguished
themselves
through
outstanding
achievement
and
the
members
of
our
faculty
and
staff,
who
have
gone
above
and
Beyond
so
I
want
to
welcome
all
of
you
to
the
uscb
academic
and
honors
awards
ceremony.
We
are
delighted
that
you
could
join
us
in
commemorating
this
tradition
and
honoring
our
award
recipients
to
our
students.
B
B
In
high
school,
you
competed
against
students
from
from
your
community
in
college,
the
competitive
field
broadened
considerably,
and
now,
if
you
are
embarking
on
a
career,
the
field
has
expanded
again
and
this
time
to
include
National
and
perhaps
International
competitors.
B
B
B
They
are
by
your
side
now,
just
as
they
have
been
for
the
past
several
years,
they've
been
your
champions,
providing
encouragement,
emotional
support,
financial
support
and
every
other
kind
of
support.
When
you
needed
it,
we
we
are
fully
aware
of
the
sacrifices
that
they
have
made
to
enable
you
to
realize
your
dream.
B
Has
been
without
equal
from
the
bottom
of
my
heart,
thank
you,
students,
faculty
and
staff.
Your
achievement
today
speak
to
two
characteristics,
commitment
and
persistence
years
from
now,
when
you
look
back
I
hope
you
will
realize
that
the
award
you
have
received
was
merely
a
down
payment
on
your
full
potential.
B
C
C
He
has
been
a
critical
member
of
a
team
of
students
in
my
own
course
in
software
engineering
that
has
been
working
on
a
virtual
reality
simulation
of
the
Barnwell
Tabby
house,
located
in
the
historic
Squire
Pope
neighborhood
of
Hilton
Head
Island.
To
my
knowledge,
this
is
the
first
time
we've
had
students
from
no
less
than
three
different
disciplines,
namely
computer
science,
archeology
and
media
arts,
all
working
together
on
a
single
course
project,
and
it
was
essential
to
have
someone
a
Marcos
caliber,
helping
them
out.
C
Marco
is
currently
exploring
job
opportunities
and
is
also
considering
returning
to
uscb
for
his
master's
degree
in
computational
science.
Regardless
of
what
path
he
chooses,
I'm
sure
he
will
be
successful
and
those
that
have
the
privilege
of
working
with
him
will
be
all
the
better
for
it.
So
congratulations,
Marco.
C
Next
up
is
our
information,
Science
and
Technology
student
of
the
year,
and
that
person
is
Stephen
Stiltner,
who,
like
many
in
the
South,
prefer
to
go
by
his
middle
name.
Zach
and
just
like
Simon,
who
is
called
Peter
Stephen,
who
is
called
Zach,
is
by
any
objective
measure
a
saint
one
of
the
best
people
you
will
ever
know.
C
Prior
to
his
arrival
at
uscd,
Zach
toured
the
country
as
a
musician
in
his
own
band.
After
learning
this
interesting
tidbit
I
checked
out
his
band's
videos
on
YouTube
and,
unlike
my
own
saxophone
instructor
in
high
school,
who
told
me
I
was
pretty
good
at
music,
but
not
good
enough
to
make
a
living
at
it.
I
will
say
that
Zach
is
very
good
at
music.
He
probably
could
make
a
living
at
it,
but
Zach
I'm
still
glad
you
made
the
choice
to
get
your
Computing
degree
following
an
exemplary
performance
in
his
introductory
course.
C
In
Java
programming
in
which
he
developed
an
award-winning
video
game
that
explored
the
sunk,
cost
cognitive
bias
and
the
logical
fallacy
known
as
two
quo
Quay
Zach
was
hand-picked
to
be
among
the
first
students
in
a
brand
new
interdisciplinary
course
in
video
game.
Production
involving
students
in
both
computer
science
and
media
arts
and
his
group's
game
was
selected
by
his
peers
and
a
team
of
invited
judges
as
being
the
best
in
the
class
and
I
hope.
He
will
eventually
take
me
up
on
my
offer
to
help
him
and
his
team
publish
their
game
on
Steam.
C
The
premier
digital
distribution
platform
for
pc
video
games.
Zach
told
me
that
his
plans
that
he
plans
to
visit
China
after
graduation
and
so
in
closing
I,
will
say
to
this
world
traveler
as
who,
as
I,
imagine
on
numerous
occasions,
heard
similar
words
on
airplane
airplane
PA
systems.
After
touchdown.
We
know
you
have
made
a
choice
about
where
you
get
your
college
degree
and
we're
so
glad
you've
chosen
uscb,
congratulations,
Zach.
C
And
getting
back
to
the
probably
intended
order
of
Awards
in
in
the
in,
for
our
our
event,
I'm
going
to
introduce
Dr,
Edward
d'antonio
to
present
the
outstanding
biology
Student
of.
D
E
E
He
worked
in
my
group,
starting
in
January,
but
I
knew
about
him
as
early
as
general
chemistry,
but
I
didn't
know
him
as
well
as
until
he
got
into
my
principles
of
biology
course,
where
he
really
demonstrated
that
he
knew
how
to
use
his
techniques
in
Biochemistry
and
toward
the
end
he
wanted
to
join.
My
lab
and
I
had
this
project
for
him.
That
was
relatively
hard.
E
It's
an
enzyme,
that's
found
in
SARS
cov2
that
the
virus
has,
and
we
developed
an
assay
that
he
could
actually
demonstrate
how
it
could
be
used
in
drug
Discovery,
research
and
I
had
a
student
who
was
working
on
it
a
year
ago
who
passed
away,
and
it
was
very
interdisciplinary
and
I
had
to
shelve
the
project.
E
E
We're
going
to
need
people
like
tree
it
who
can
perform
research
like
the
way
he
did
in
my
lab,
but
moving
forward
to
be
this
doctor
that
he
he
wants
to
be
for
his
dream
beyond
that
tree.
It
is
very
nice
and
considerate
in
the
lab
students
in
the
lab
look
up
to
him
as
a
role
model
he's
very
willing
to
help
out
when
other
students
are
having
difficulties.
F
Good
morning,
looking
at
the
row,
mind
is
my
individual
is
not
here,
but
we'll
read
at
least
his
accomplishments
outstanding
business
student
in
you
was
a
Charles
rumor
Charles
completed
his
business
administration
degree
with
a
concentration
Management
in
December
of
2022..
F
The
first
that
he
was
really
proud
of
was
the
fact
that
he
had
served
in
the
in
the
Army
for
a
period
of
five
years,
serving
about
two
two
and
a
half
years
in
Iraq
supporting
operation
Iraqi
freedom,
the
other
first,
who
is
even
more
proud
of,
was
he
was
the
first
in
his
family
to
have
graduated
with
a
college
degree
presently
and
I
think.
The
reason
we
don't
have
him
here
with
us
today
is
Charles
is
working
full-time.
He
is
working
towards
attorney
obtaining
his
journeyman's
and
Masters
electrician
licenses.
F
F
D
Hello,
I'm
Dr,
Caroline,
Sawyer
of
communication
studies.
This
year's
recipient
of
the
communication
studies,
Student
of
the
Year
award,
exemplifies
the
tenacity
and
commitment
necessary
to
thrive
both
in
and
out
of
the
classroom.
A
native
of
rotvik
Sweden.
She
came
to
uscb
in
the
fall
of
2019
and
in
her
four
years,
is
a
midfielder
at
the
for
the
uscb
women's
soccer
team.
She
established
herself
as
a
leader
on
and
off
the
field,
as
well
as
a
mentor
for
several
international
student
athletes
who
followed
her
here
to
the
low
country.
D
Her
work
in
the
classroom
has
been
exemplary
and
that's
where
I
first
met
our
recipient.
She
showed
up
into
my
TV
studio
production
class
and
had
such
a
talent
for
running
a
camera
that
I
said
well
you're,
going
to
work
on
my
show
so
I
enlisted
her
into
becoming
a
production
assistant
on
SCE
TVs
by
the
river,
which
is
an
award-winning
and
nationally
broadcast
author
series
program.
D
She
her
editing
skills
were
heads
and
tails
above
everyone
else
that
I'd
ever
seen
on
her
first
project
and
I
said
guess
what
you're
going
to
edit
season
two
of
our
show
she's
the
first
student
that
I've
ever
let
take
over
at
a
teen
for
our
show,
and
it
has
been
amazing,
I'm
going
to
miss
this
student
very
much.
G
Thank
you
today,
I
present
Miss
Sarah
Livingston
for
the
Department
of
Education
Elementary
award
Sarah
consistently
goes
above
and
beyond
in
classroom
and
with
all
of
her
assignments.
She
actively
participates
during
class
and
consistently
seeks
opportunities
to
help
her
classmates,
whether
holding
study
tutoring
sessions
in
the
library
or
being
a
class
technology
volunteer,
because
I
am
not
super
smart
on
the
technology
front
and
helping
every
senior
seminar
class
with
their
Tech
implementation.
She
speaks
up
in
a
productive
and
reflectful
way.
G
She
displays
a
positive
and
encouraging
attitude
and
is
constantly
seeking
ways
to
reflect
and
grow.
As
a
leader
and
teacher
during
her
time
at
uscb,
she
worked
as
a
preschool
at
a
preschool
in
her
hometown
of
Monk's
Corner.
She
traveled
back
back
home
for
breaks
and
long
weekends.
In
order
to
spend
time
with
the
kiddos.
Through
this,
she
was
able
to
form
even
stronger
connections
with
her
small
town
and
the
families
within
it.
She
spent
time
volunteering
with
the
community,
such
as
a
fundraising,
color,
runs
and
various
holiday
celebrations.
G
She
enjoys
spending
time
with
family
and
friends.
She
enjoys
baking,
going
shopping,
watching
movies
and
going
out
on
the
boat
with
her
dad
her
internship,
cooperating
teacher
Mr,
Nathan
Goff.
Had
this
to
say
when
Sarah
arrived
to
teach
in
my
classroom,
I
could
already
tell
she
had
an
excellent
teaching
foundation
without
hesitation.
She
began
building
relationships
with
each
of
her
students
and
genuinely
showed
interest
in
what
made
them
excited
to
learn.
G
Her
ability
to
bond
with
the
students
helped
to
make
her
a
unique
difference
for
each
student
in
the
short
few
months
that
she
was
with
us.
I
know
she's
going
to
go
off
and
do
great
things,
and
she
will
be
an
amazing
educator.
It
is
with
great
pleasure
that
I
present
Miss
Sarah
Livingston
as
a
recipient
for
the
Department
of
Education
Elementary
award.
G
Our
early
childhood
recipient
was
unable
to
be
here
today.
Her
name
is
Keaton
Neal
for
the
Department
of
Education
Early
Childhood
award
during
her
tenure
at
uscb.
She
played
on
the
women's
soccer
team
finding
a
way
to
balance
her
early
morning
practice
and
evening
with
the
weekend
games
with
her
classes,
her
practicum
and
her
internship.
H
This
year's
award
goes
to
the
inimitable
edra
Stevens,
who
has
left
her
mark
on
the
University
and
is
already
fruitfully
making
her
mark
on
The
Wider
world
of
creative
writing
for
decades
as
a
mom,
a
grand
mom
and
recently
retired
accountant,
edra

for
herself
to
complete
her
college
degree
before
she
turned

and
to
write
the
stories
of
her
life.
These
are
now
dreams.
Come
true

the
powerful

that
rises
through
her

G
H
I
The
writer
Parker
Palmer
says
that
teaching
is
a
daily
exercise
and
vulnerability.
In
my
experience.
Nowhere
is
that
more
true
than
in
a
high
school
classroom,
our
next
award
recipient
is
Jason
Dennis
who's
receiving
the
Madison
Riley
Atkins
award
for
outstanding
secondary
English
education,
JD
is
going
to
become
a
high
school
English
teacher
and
his
students
and
our
whole
Community
are
so
fortunate.
I
Good
teachers
are
willing
to
be
reflective
to
look
unflinchingly
in
the
face
of
what
happens
in
our
classrooms
and
think
about
what's
going
to
be
best
for
our
students,
even
when
that's
not
easy
for
us
and
time
and
time
again,
JD's
faculty
have
seen
him
take
feedback
even
really
hard
feedback
pick
it
up,
use
it
and
push
himself
to
become
better
and
better
and
better.
That's
the
mark
of
a
good
teacher.
We
know
you're
going
to
do
great
great
things
and
we
are
so
proud
of
you
JD,
so
so
so
proud.
I
I
They
should
have
put
a
step
stool
here
for
me
and
I'd
like
to
welcome
to
the
podium
Dr
Mac
James,
who
will
present
the
award
for
history.
J
I,
don't
know
if
he
remembers
it
this
way,
but
I
remember
getting
him
to
be
a
history.
Major
was
kind
of
a
tough
sell,
but
I'm
very
glad
that
he
chose
history.
I
know
that
he
plans
to
attend
law,
school
and
I
have
no
doubt
that
he
will
be
a
successful
in
law,
school
and
Beyond,
as
he
has
been
here.
Please
join
me
in
congratulating
Nathan
Lessard.
K
K
She
is
a
Hospitality
major
with
a
minor
in
accounting.
Excuse
me
a
concentration
in
accounting.
If
you
can
imagine
no
offense
to
accounting,
sorry,
she
is
played
softball
since
she
began
here
at
uscb
and
has
earned
a
high
GPA
has
been
able
to
balance
those
two,
her
academics
and
her
Athletics.
K
She
has
worked
in
the
at
the
creek
Club
in
Long
Island
and
manage
their
the
food
and
beverage
at
their
Beach
Club,
which
I
don't
know
if
you
know
how
huge
that
is,
but
she
did
a
fantastic
job
when
asking
my
fellow
faculty
members
to
say
something
about
Leah
all
of
them
said
the
same
thing,
and
that
was
that
they're
going
to
miss
her
smile.
So
the
outstanding
Hospitality
management,
Student
of
the
Year
award,
goes
to
Leah
to
go.
K
K
She
has
been
on
the
President's
List
multiple
times
and
was
recently
awarded
the
2022
Sun
Conference
champion
of
character,
which
I
think
is
amazing,
while
completing
her
degree
online.
She
is
currently
working
as
a
community
coach
at
Blessed,
Trinity,
Catholic,
High,
School,
and
so
the
outstanding
online
student
of
the
year
goes
to
JJ
bardham.

student
of
outstanding

Student
of
the

Raymond,
was
raised
in
Berthoud
Colorado
and
then
he
moved
to
South
Carolina
five
years
ago.
His
interests
are
varied
from
theater
to
skills.
Games
such
as
Tetris
and
Yakuza
games,
with
Tetris
being
his
favorite
and
Raymond
is
currently
reviewing
his
post-graduation
options
and
Raymond's
mathematics.
Professors
highly
regard
him
as
an
excellent
mathematics
student
with
remarkable
interest
and
passion
for
the
subject
and
I
truly
congratulate
Raymond.
Congratulations.

M
M
The
student's
record
of
performance
in
working
with
people
on
both
an
individual
and
group
bases
demonstrates
her
ability
and
her
potential
for
providing
excellence
in
the
provision
of
Public.
Health
Services
is
an
experienced
mature
person
with
multiple
interests
and
talents
in
the
broad
array
of
opportunities
in
the

M
N
I'm
here
to
present
the
Lynn
Mulkey
Human
Services
Student
of
the
Year
award
and
this
year
that
goes
to
Sealy
Mackey,
who
has
excelled
in
all
parts
of
her
academic
career,
but
most
notably
her
experiential
learning,
where
she's
completed
three
different
internships
throughout
her
career
and
the
one
I
want
to
touch
on
most
recently
is
her
seeking
out
an
internship
to
do
evaluation
for
the
accreditation
of
our
Human,
Services
Program,
believe
it
or
not.
N
We
don't
have
very
many
actively
and
enthusiastically
knocking
down
the
door
to
do
that
and
in
that
work
she
focused
on
assessing
quality
student
learning
outcomes
and
streamlining
processes
and
procedures
for
us
that
will
have
an
income
impact
for
years
to
come.
N
O
Thank
you,
Dr
Gill,
it's
my
honor
to
present
the
Human
Services
Palmetto
college
student
of
the
year.
Some
of
you,
several
of
you
on
this
stage,
might
recognize
the
award
recipient
from
last
year.
Let
me
explain:
he
may
be
the
first
back-to-back
Award
winner
in
recent
history,
because
Richard
represented
uscb
last
year,
as
he
was
the
winner
of
the
Newman
Civic
Fellowship
award,
so
he
he
represented
uscb
throughout
this
past
Academic
Year
in
this
National
Organization,
which
recognizes
and
supports
Community
committed
students
who
are
change,
makers
and
public
problem.
O
Solvers
now
Richard's
many
accomplishments
are
listed
in
the
and,
of
course,
the
brochure
that
all
of
you
have.
So
you
will
review
some
of
those
when
you
have
an
opportunity
to
read
through
the
program,
so
yeah
I'm,
proud
to
announce
also
that
we
just
found
out
this
week
that
rich
was
accepted
into
the
counseling
and
Rehabilitation
Masters
program
at
USC
and
which
is
one
of
many
Advanced
educational
opportunities
that
he
is
currently
considering.
O
P
It's
a
weird
thing:
this
Educators
Paradox,
because
I
look
out
at
all
of
you
and
your
students
and
I've
had
you
in
classes
and
seen
you
do
so
many
amazing
things
here
and
now:
you're
in
this
liminal
space
and
tomorrow,
your
colleagues
really
weird
and
amazing,
and
so
it's
so
sad,
I'm
gonna,
miss
you
all
so
much
anyways
I
met
Amy
in
the
fall
of
2020
and
it
was
nothing
short
of
serendipity.
P
She
inspired
us
as
Educators
to
be
mindful
of
the
real
world
impacts
and
the
stakes
of
this
work.
Amy
affected
this
change
in
her
faculty
with
unmitigated
Grace,
humility
and
generosity.
Her
curiosity
and
enthusiasm
for
learning
is
unparalleled,
indeed,
Amy's
Scholastic
profile.
Her
attitude
toward
learning
is
such
an
accurate
reflection
of
Gordon
heist's
enduring
Legacy
at
uscb.
P
It's
not
just
Amy's
Stellar
academic
record
that
sets
her
apart.
It
is
the
way
in
which
she
engages
with
academic
discourse.
It
is
her
unabashed
joy
in
learning
and
she's,
given
that
joy
to
her
classmates
and
she
has
given
that
joy
to
her
teachers.
She
has
made
teaching
a
joy,
laughs
and
I'm
very
grateful
for
that.
She
is
simply
outstanding.
Q
Q
Q
As
an
honors
student,
she
has
participated
in
additional
nursing
projects
to
enrich
her
educational
experience
during
her
time
at
uscb.
She
was
involved
in
many
organizations,
including
the
student
Nurses
Association
gamma
Beta
Phi
National,
Honor
Society
and
Sigma
Theta
tall,
the
nursing
Honor
Society
she's
also
worked
as
a
student
ambassador.
Q
R
Good
morning,
everyone
I'm
excited
to
introduce
Ali
Robertson
today,
who
is
receiving
the
outstanding
sociology
Student
of
the
Year
award
some
years.
We
have
strong
students
with
good
gpas
and
it's
a
little
difficult
to
decide
who
receives
the
award
this
year.
It
was.
It
was
really
easy
for
Deb
and
I
to
come
to
this
decision.
R
Ali
actually
came
to
us
from
USC
salahachie,
where
she
received
the
Magellan,
worked
with
a
psychology
faculty
member
on
consensual
non-monogamy
research
and
has
presented
that
at
a
conference
since
being
here,
she's
gone
on
to
conduct
her
own
research
on
Lowcountry
food
banks,
but
she
won
second
place
in
social
justice
for
at
our
recent
research
and
scholarship
student
research
and
scholarship
day.
R
But
really
what
makes
Ali
the
best
recipient
for
this
award
is
how
inspiring
she
is
in
the
classroom.
She
came
to
uscb,
not
planning
to
take
many
classes
in
person,
but
I
get
to
have
her
in
the
classroom
in
the
fall
for
a
social
problems,
class
and
I
left
every
single
one,
those
classes.
Thinking
about
the
things
that
you
said.
R
R
Ali
I
know
that
your
your
planned
career,
your
planned
goals
with
achieving
a
PhD
in
philosophy,
are
very
well
suited
for
you,
given
the
way
that
you
think
and
Inspire
others
to
think,
but
I'm
also
glad
to
know
you're
taking
a
little
time
off
this
summer,
going
to
travel
with
a
band
help
out
as
a
roadie,
I
guess
I
think
that's
a
really
cool
way
to
to
get
started
on
your
next
chapter.
So
thank
you
so
much.
S
S
So
Hey
everybody
I'm,
Dr,
Kyle,
Messick,
so
I'm
about
to
present
the
Charles
person
psychology
award,
which
goes
to
a
student
that
has
demonstrated
creativity
and
commitment
to
surprise
psychology.
Despite
this
being
a
small
Regional
campus
right,
we
have
a
strong,
dedicated
psychology
program
that
provides
many
opportunities
for
students,
including
optional
internships,
research,
Labs,
a
club
that
is
very
active
and
events.
S
So
I've
never
actually
had
this
student
in
my
classroom
because
they
took
my
classes
before
I
came
here
it's
my
second
year
here,
but
that
was
their
level
of
interest
in
Psychology
that
they
were
looking
for
opportunities,
and
so
they
ended
up
in
my
research
lab,
and
not
only
is
this
individual
taken
just
a
few
courses
short
of
a
20
psychology
courses,
they
were
in
my
lab
and
they
volunteered
for
a
number
of
different
projects
and
just
a
few
days
ago,
a
surprise
by
the
way,
a
academic
Journal
that
we
submitted
the
manuscript
to
approved
it
with
minor
revisions.
S
So
this
individual
also
will
be
a
published
author,
hopefully
within
the
next
year,
something
very
uncommon
for
an
undergraduate
student,
and
so
this
student,
in
addition
to
to
being
motivated
to
succeed
in
any
Pursuit,
will
leave
uscb
with
a
wealth
of
skills
and
experience
that
will
serve
them
well
in
future
endeavors
and
that
will
make
them
more
competitive
in
pursuing
their
career
goals.
So
we're
all
very
proud
to
have.
This
have
had
this
student
right
and
take
advantage
of
many
of
these
opportunities.
O
S
So
next
presenting
the
outstanding
studio,
art
student
of
the
year
award,
please
welcome
Jim
saletsky.
T
T
She
absorbed
everything
that
I
could
teach
her
and
would
research
beyond
the
lesson
plan,
which
is
amazing,
I,
want
all
of
my
students
to
do
this,
and
that's
actually
what
I'm
going
to
be
doing
next
year
to
my
new
students
is
tell
them
that's
the
secret
she
immersed
herself
in
the
life
of
a
game
artist,
every
challenge
that
I
laid
in
front
of
her.
She
aced
Megan,
gained
an
internship
at
the
Beaufort
digital
Corridor
working
with
Dolphin
Ventures.
T
She
volunteered
for
an
interesting
this
interdisciplinary
class
in
Grain
production,
with
media
artists
and
computational
students,
computational
science
students
and,
when
presented
with
the
opportunity
to
work
on
the
barnal
Tabby
projects
with
computational
science,
students,
anthropology
students
she
jumped
at
the
chance
Megan
Kurtz.
Please
join
me
on
stage.
T
U
Good
morning,
everyone,
it's
a
great
pleasure
to
recognize
Shamika
Dunbar
as
our
Newman
Civic
Fellowship
for
the
Newman
Civic
Fellowship
award.
The
Newman
Civic
Fellowship
award
is
a
year-long
program
that
recognizes
and
supports
student
problem.
Solvers
at
Campus
Connect
member
institutions
fellows
are
nominated
by
their
president
or
Chancellor,
based
on
their
potential
for
public
leadership
and
their
work
with
their
communities
throughout
the
fellowship
year.
U
Jamaica
is
a
junior
in
the
Human
Services
Program
who's
shown
excellence
in
scholarship
that
an
outstanding
Civic
engagement
experience,
she's,
participating
in
an
internship
this
spring
semester
at
Kindred,
hearts
of
South
Carolina,
where
her
primary
role
is
performing
assessments
on
families
who
are
in
need
of
community
services
and
with
Kindred
Hearts.
It
provides
services
for
families
that
that
are
in
need
of
care,
so
caregivers,
Shamika,
also
volunteers
with
girls,
a
girls
group
called
The
Mary
B
Thomas
girls,
where
she's
been
a
mentor
for
five
years.
U
This
organization
prepares
young
women
for
a
positive
and
rewarding
future
by
stimulating
their
interest
in
higher
education,
and
it
also
encourages
them
to
become
civic-minded
in
their
communities.
She's
also
helped
with
Design
Fair
Baptist
Church
food
drive
and
toy
drive
for
the
past
12
years
with
Newman
Civic
Scholars.
It
provides
Shamika
with
an
opportunity
to
further
her
commitment
to
long-term
Civic
engagement
and
the
Human
Services
faculty
strongly
endorses
her
candidacy.
U
I've
worked
with
Shamika
very
closely
over
the
past
few
years
and
I'm
just
impressed
by
her
level
of
dedication
to
her
community
and
to
clients
and
families,
and
just
in
general,
with
her
with
her
dedication
to
her
work,
her
scholarship
in
our
program.
So
again,
it
gives
me
great
pleasure
to
recognize
shamiko
Dunbar
as
our
Newman
Civic
fellow.
V
Good
morning,
I
I
absolutely
love
this
time
of
year,
and
today,
I
have
the
honor
of
presenting
two
Awards
and
first
I'd
like
to
present
the
Darwin
B
Bashaw
Student
of
the
Year
award,
and
this
award
is
named
for
the
first
dean
of
the
campus
and
the
person
who
held
the
position
longer
than
any
other
Dean
and
it
honors
a
student
who
is
committed
to
their
academic
Pursuits,
as
well
as
their
role
as
a
leader
on
campus,
and
this
year's
recipient
is
Jesse
Elliott
and
many
of
you
have
probably
seen
Jessie
around
campus.
V
He
is
a
graduating
senior
in
the
nursing
program
and
is
a
dedicated
student
as
well
as
a
dedicated
Community
member
Jesse
is
academically
well-rounded,
however,
Beyond
being
committed
to
his
studies.
He
is
also
committed
to
serving
as
an
advocate
for
his
fellow
students.
He
is
involved
in
various
organizations
and
Leadership
roles,
including
serving
as
a
student
nursing
association.
President
he's
been
a
resident
assistant
for
three
years
and
he
has
provided
great
entertainment
during
music
Mondays
last
year
and
Jesse
is
very
passionate
about
music.
V
So
he
wanted
to
share
that
passion
with
his
peers
on
both
the
Bluffton
and
the
Beaufort
campuses.
We
have
no
doubt
that
Jesse
will
go
on
to
do
great
things
in
the
field
of
nursing,
but
we
also
know
for
sure
that
he
will
be
a
leader
and
a
role
model
in
his
community
and,
although
not
related
to
his
academics
or
his
leadership
roles.
Jesse
is
one
heck
of
a
snazzy
dresser
and
he
is
truly
deserving
of
this
award.
So
please
join
me
in
congratulating
Jessie.
V
The
committee
is
excited
to
be
able
to
present
this
award
as
we
understand
and
appreciate
the
importance
of
recognizing
employees,
who
exhibit
a
passion
for
inclusivity
and
who
Advance,
who
advocate
for
a
diverse
inclusive
and
accepting
Campus
Community.
Our
very
first
recipient
of
this
award
currently
serves
as
an
assistant
professor
in
the
mathematics
Department.
V
In
addition,
her
research
examines
black
women's
mathematical
experiences
and
the
historical
invisibility
in
the
mathematics,
teaching
and
learning
literature
in
her
own
story.
As
a
woman
and
a
mother
in
the
field
of
mathematics
and
the
stories
of
others
from
underrepresented
backgrounds
in
the
field
created
an
opportunity
for
her
work
for
her
to
work
with
Libby
Ricardo
on
a
stage
play
aimed
at
inspiring
young
women
to
pursue
professions
in
stem
fields,
Dr
Jones,
Williams
also
partnered,
with
colleagues
to
develop
and
Implement
a
math
camp
for
young
students
from
underrepresented
backgrounds.
V
I
could
go
on
and
on,
but,
as
you
can
see,
Dr
Jones
Williams
is
deeply
committed
to
creating
spaces
and
opportunities
for
people
from
underrepresented
backgrounds
to
thrive.
It's
for
all
these
reasons,
and
so
many
more
that
Dr
Jones
Williams
is
so
very
deserving
to
be
the
recipient
of
the
first
ever
inclusive
leader
award.
Please
join
me
in
congratulating
Dr
Jones
Williams.
W
Well,
our
next
awardee
I
could
say
everything
that
Dr
Simmons
says
because
it's
the
same
person
take
keep
your
seat
for
a
minute
and
also
Dr
Williams
I
invite
you
to
bring
your
daughter
up
when
you
come
up
next
time.
Okay,
so
it's
my
pleasure
to
present
the
Vincent
P
Missouri
award,
which
goes
to
a
full-time
faculty
or
staff
member
who
demonstrates
a
strong
commitment
to
working
with
students
outside
the
classroom
by
participating
actively
in
student
organizations
and
student-sponsored
activities.
W
W
Let's
find
Dr
Jones
Williams
to
be
caring,
engaging
and
willing
to
go
the
extra
mile.
These
are
a
few
comments
from
students
that
she
truly
cares
about.
All
of
her
students,
Dr
Jones
Williams,
makes
sure
everybody
understands
the
material
always
listens.
If
anyone
has
concerns,
she
truly
made
my
first
year
of
college
Dr,
Jones
Williams
goes
above
and
beyond
for
her
students.
She
makes
sure
everyone
feels
valued,
no
matter
what
she
is
always
kind.
This
is
an
interesting
one.
There
was
never
a
time
I
dreaded
going
to
her
class.
W
Dr
Jones
Williams
cares
for
her
students,
both
inside
and
outside
the
classroom.
I
feel
like
she
genuinely
cares
about
her
students
scheduled
meetings
outside
the
classroom
and
office
hours
as
needed.
We
had
a
planned
projects,
He
set
aside
time
to
create
meeting
spaces
for
for
us
and
so
on
and
so
forth.
This
is
just
the
tip
of
the
iceberg
for
that,
but
her
activities
active
engagement
in
student
organizations,
student-sponsored
activities.
W
X
I'm
going
to
apologize
in
advance,
I'm
so
excited
whenever
I
was
told,
I
got
to
present
these
Awards
I
truly
was
absolutely
thrilled.
So
just
don't
mind
the
high
pitch
excited
voice,
let's
get
started
so
the
outstanding
advisor
of
the
Year
award
recognizes
the
faculty
or
staff
member
who
is
knowledgeable
committed
and
excels
at
advising
one
who
goes
the
extra
mile
for
the
students
this
year.
The
recipient
is
Professor
Edmonds
and
just
a
comment
about
her,
which
I
can
confirm.
X
Oh,
that
kind
of
made
me
want
to
cry.
I
can't
even
lie:
okay,
another
one.
That's
going
to
get
me
all
right.
The
adjunct,
professor
of
the
Year
award,
is
presented
to
an
adjunct
faculty
member
who
demonstrates
a
level
of
dedication
to
the
classroom
and
the
university
as
well
as
goes
above
and
beyond
the
basic
requirements
of
this
position.
This
year's
recipient
is
submit.
The
hearing
and
Sam
is
a
strong
advocate
for
the
student
Community.
X
X
I'm
just
as
excited
but
I
unfortunately
have
not
had
the
opportunity
to
hang
out
with
this
professor,
but
I've
heard
he
is
awesome
so
without
further
Ado.
The
professor
of
the
year
is
awarded
to
the
professor,
who
exemplifies
the
best
of
the
profession,
one
who
is
committed
to
students
and
to
the
university
and
to
the
professional
field.
Colleagues
and
the
community
Dr
Richard
osbaliston
did
I
say
that
right,
Dr
o
is
committed
to
helping
students
inside
and
outside
the
classroom.
X
W
W
Okay
quickly,
a
couple
of
housekeeping
items
before
I
wrap
up
when
I
finished
my
remarks.
There
are
a
couple
of
photograph
backdrops
over
here,
so
you're
welcome
to
go
over
with
your
parents,
faculty
members,
whomever
else
and
take
pictures
I
want
to
point
out
a
big
thank
you
to
Twila
Reynolds,
who
not
just
organizes
this
activity,
but
also
adjust
to
so
many
last
minute
changes
and
the
honors
Medallion
yeah,
absolutely
that
that
that
will
be
after
yeah.
Thank
you,
the
honors
medallions
will
be,
will
transition
to
that
quickly.
Right
after
oh
wait
a
minute.
W
My
these
remarks
go
after
all
of
that
yeah!
Okay,
got
you
good
good
good!
Thank
you!
Well,
okay,
while
I'm
here
a
couple
other
things
yeah,
absolutely
yeah,
I'm
not
going
to
miss
a
chance.
I
want
to
thank
quickly
Sierra
Brown
Watkins.
Where
is
she
okay?
This
is
her
okay
right
here.
Thank
you
met
a
little
while
ago.
W
Wonderful,
she
is
the
president
of
our
student,
honors
Association
big
deal
and
the
last
thing
I
don't
want
to
miss
the
chance
to
do
this
and
I
want
to
thank
the
faculty
that
are
flanked
to
my
left
and
my
right
and
also
in
this
middle
part
of
the
of
the
of
the
audience
here.
W
All
this
work,
all
the
student
accolades
all
the
things
that
we
recognize,
that
they
wouldn't
be
possible
without
them,
and
so
I'll
hold
off
on
my
other
comments
for
a
minute
and
I
want
to
transition
to
Dr
Alvarez
who's,
going
to
walk
us
through
the
Beaufort
College
honors
Awards.
Thank
you.
Y
Good
morning,
everyone
so
I
will
borrow
the
words
of
my
esteemed
colleague,
Dr
Ellen
malfris,
said
in
the
interest
of
time.
I
shall
give
highlights
of
the
next
Honors
that
we
will
be
giving.
Incidentally,
I
don't
want
to
forget
mentioning
this
while
I'm
on
the
stage
Dr
Ellen
malphres
will
be
honored
in
Colombia
for
being
the
state
South
Carolina
trustee
professor
in
a
few
weeks,
so
I
also
wanted
to
improve.
Y
Okay,
you
have
to
program
so
real,
quick,
just
two
lines
regarding
the
Beaufort
College
honors
program
we
selected
the
name
Beaufort
College
goes
back
to
1795
and
not
written
in
your
program.
Some
of
the
graduates
of
the
Beaufort
College
older
than
University
of
South
Carolina
in
Columbia.
Some
of
the
graduates
ended
up
doing
great
things
for
the
nation,
some
of
them
going
over
to
Harvard.
Y
So
we
expect
our
honor
students
here
who
will
be
receiving
The
Medallion
to
also
be
doing
great
things,
not
just
for
the
state
of
South
Carolina,
but
for
the
nation
and
maybe
even
internationally,
so
without
further
Ado
Let
Me
Now
call
on
Dr
Joe
Staton
to
help
me
and
Dr
I'll
panu,
our
Chancellor,
with
the
assistance
of
Sierra
Watkins
to
then
give
the
honors
medallion
for
the
biology
Majors.
First
major
is
mailfree
Gonzalez,
adujar,
melfry.
Y
Y
Y
Y
Y
Thank
you
very
much
Madison.
Our
next
student
is
a
student
in
nursing
and
let
me
call
Dr
Lynn
Hutchison
to
help
our
Chancellor
give
the
honors
Medallion
and
by
the
way
we
ask
our
honor
students
to
please
wear
this
medallions
proudly
during
graduation
make
it
flash
make
it
bright
right.
Okay,
so
our
next
student
is
Jessica
Barger.
Y
Y
Y
Y
And
can
I
repeat
some
of
the
awards
and
the
wonderful
things
that
were
mentioned
about
her
because
she
received
the
nursing
academic
award
as
well
she's
from
Vermont.
But
guess
what
she's
going
to
be
staying
here
in
Beaufort,
because
she
will
be
working
at
the
birthing
center
of
Beaufort
Memorial
Hospital.
Y
Y
Y
Our
honors
students
worked
extra
hard.
There
were
additional
work
class
activities,
projects
that
they
had
to
do,
but
because
of
that
training
we
look
forward
to
a
lot
more
news
coming
from
then
in
the
future.
Please
do
not
forget
about
uscb.
You've
received
a
million
emails
from
me,
while
you
were
a
student
you're
going
to
receive
a
lot
more
when
you
graduate.
So
thank
you
very
much.
I
now
call
on
the
floor.
Our
Provost
Dr
skipper.
Y
W
W
W
Our
student
Award
winners,
who
are
graduating
they're,
going
off
to
do
a
range
of
different
things
and
you've
heard
about
a
lot
of
them
already:
various
branches
of
medical
profession
graduate
school
to
pursue
careers
in
the
medical
and
Humanities
or
the
Sciences
others
who
will
follow
a
career
path
in
education.
The
public
agencies
that
are
out
there.
