Description

When Nicole Langton set out to re-arrange her classroom, she didn't just move the chairs and tables, she invited her students to design the new space. The result features a budget-friendly mix of second-hand recliners, stools, rockers and tables at different heights. Her students choose where they sit each day and thank her for the opportunity to shape their own learning space.

I'm Nicole LinkedIn and I teach a 3q manatees here at Whitford middle school this year. It was really a goal of mine to recreate my learning space. I had done. A bunch of research went to a couple of different teachers classrooms over the summer to see how they redesigned their space for this 21st century learner. However I didn't want it to just be me: I really wanted the kids input on the design, because I feel like if they're designing it they're going to use the spaces hi.

My enrichment class this year, I decided I, was going to invite them in to help design the classroom that they felt the most comfortable using and learning from most.

Kids, don't really save so you have to like mix it up a little bit, because when you mix it up then can open their minds and then they get to learn. My name is Genevieve and I helped with this classroom redesigning the number one thing that I contributed with was moving the tables and opening up a space. Give them a lot of choice in where they want to sit, so some kids are standing, some kids are sitting, but the thing I love the most is just the flexibility of the room and the seating.
