A
Good
morning,
everyone
I
called
to
order
the
special
beaverton
school
board
meeting
for
march
16
2022..
I
want
to
begin
with
the
land
acknowledgement.
I
would
like
to
acknowledge
that
our
district
rests
on
the
traditional
land
of
the
tualatin
calipuya.
We
thank
the
ancestors
of
the
calipuya
for
being
the
original
stewards
and
protectors
of
these
lands.
We
are
honored
by
the
collective
work
of
many
indigenous
nations
leaders
and
families
who
demonstrate
resilience,
resistance,
revitalization,
healing
and
creativity.
A
B
A
Zone
two
current
press
zone:
three
eric
simpson,
president
zone,
four
sunita
garg,
I
sunita-
I
don't
see
her
yet
but
she'll
probably
be
joining
us
zone.
Five,
uganda
and
anaya.
A
Zone
six
becky
tim
chuck
here
and
zone
seven
tom
collette-
I
am
here-
I'm
so
excited
to
be
here
today.
This
is
a
very
special
board
session.
We
are
going
to
be
voting
on
the
contract
for
our
next
beaverton
superintendent
and
before
we
get
there,
I
want
to
say
a
couple
of
things
about
the
process
that
brought
us
to
this
moment.
A
Looking
at
some
screening
interview,
questions
looking
at
people's
resumes
looking
at
the
work
they
had
done
previously
other
materials
and
brought
together
a
first
round
of
candidates.
Then
there
was
a
second
round,
and
now
we
are
here
today
with
our
our
selection,
dr
gustavo
balderas,
and
there
are
so
many
amazing
things
that
I
can
say
about
dr
balderas.
A
A
Dr
balderas
has
the
high
distinction
of
having
been
named
the
national
superintendent
of
the
year
and
beyond
that
he
is
an
incredible
person
to
talk
to
very
empathetic.
He
listens
deeply
and
from
our
conversations
understands
what
students
and
educators
and
our
community
needs
to
be
able
to
move
our
district
forward.
So
I
don't
want
to
say
too
much
more
because
we
have
dr
balderas
here
with
us
today.
A
I'd
like
to
turn
it
over
to
him
to
say
a
couple
of
words
before
we
move
forward
with
this
vote
on
his
contract.
B
Thank
you
cher
colette
again,
and
thank
you
for
the
board
for
their
confidence
and
I'm
honored
and
humbled
by
the
opportunity
to
come
back
home
where
my
two
sons
went
through
beaverton
schools,
west
tv
cedar
park,
my
oldest,
went
to
hs2,
but
played
football
and
lacrosse
at
sunset
high.
So
I
look
forward
to
coming
back
home.
B
We
will
work
to
build
on
the
fine
work
that
superintendent
grotin
and
his
staff
have
been
able
to
accomplish
during
his
tenure
under
the
direction
and
leadership
of
the
school
board,
as
we
were
through
the
end
of
this
pandemic.
You
know
these
pandemics
caused
a
lot
of
great
harm
to
everyone,
but
no
one
more
impacted
than
our
students
look
forward
to
working
on
learning
acceleration
projects
that
I
know
the
beaverton
staff
have
already
began
to
implement
and
will
continue
again.
B
A
Thank
you,
dr
balderas.
We
are,
we
are
so
excited
to
have
you
here.
Okay,
with
that,
before
we
can
have
any
further
discussion
or
comments
from
board
members.
I
would
like
to
hear
a
motion
to
approve
the
superintendent's
contract.
D
A
E
Good
morning,
everyone-
and
it
is,
as
as
tom
said,
a
wonderful
wonderful
day
to
be
a
beaverton
school
board
member.
There
is
nothing
as
being
on
the
school
board
seven
years.
This
is
the
second
time
I
will
be
able
to
pick
a
leader
for
the
beaverton
school
district,
and
there
is
nothing
more
important
to
do
as
a
school
board
member
and
it's
a
it's
a
great
day
to
be
able
to
do
that.
E
I
just
want
to
say
there
were
two
observations
I
made
during
during
this
process
and,
and
one
of
those
was
even
though
our
school
district
is
not
perfect
and,
like
everyone
had
had
many
ups
and
downs
during
this
pandemic
and
and
different
things
that
we've
had
to
deal
with
as
a
large
school
district.
E
It
was
wonderful
to
see
in
this
process
that
tom
mentioned
that
there
were
so
many
people
that
wanted
to
come
and
be
the
leader
of
the
beaverton
school
district,
the
caliber
of
people,
the
people
from
across
the
country
that
apply
to
be
the
leader
here.
So,
even
though
we're
right
here
in
the
middle
of
of
the
beaverton
school
district,
we
forget
how
much
we
have
going
and
how
appealing
it
is
to
a
lot
of
outside
people
of
what
a
great
school
district.
E
It
is
that
we
are
a
part
of
and
that
that
was
one
of
the
first
things
you
can
put
out
all
of
the
characteristics
you
can
put
out
the
applications.
But
you
have
to
wait
to
see
those
people
that
want
to
come
and
be
a
part
of
our
team,
and
it
was
so
great
to
see
the
people
and
it
was
very
great
to
see
when
we
saw
dr
balderas's
application
and
throughout
the
process.
E
It
was
wonderful
coming
together,
because
this
is
a
board
that
is
made
up
of
three
new
board
members,
people
that
have
a
variety
of
of
different
professional
and
personal
interests.
E
That
is
so
much
going
to
be
a
part
of
the
future
of
our
school
district.
And
on
one
last
note,
I've
had
professionally
the
opportunity
to
hire
many
people
and
be
part
of
natural
national
searches,
and
I
have
always
found
that
past
performance
is
an
indicator
of
future
performance,
and
there
is
no
doubt
in
my
mind
that
the
future
of
the
beaverton
school
district
under
the
leadership
of
dr
balderas,
is
in
very
good
hands.
And
for
that
I
will
be
voting.
C
So
good
morning,
students,
families
and
community
of
beaverton,
it's
with
much
honor
and
pride
that
I
I'm
here
today
to
welcome
dr
balderas
cindy
and
the
kids
to
beaverton
and
to
announce
to
you
that
he
will
be
joining
our
community
as
a
leader.
C
It
is
with
much
pride
that,
like
becky,
said
his
true
proven
record
in
raising
the
graduation
rates
for
all
student
groups,
his
development
and
amplification
of
bilingual
and
dual
language
programs,
cte
programs
and
his
support
for
retention
of
staff
of
color
and
the
growth
of
staff
of
color
and
the
districts
that
he
has
been
is
incredible.
C
A
You
know,
I
said
a
couple
things
earlier,
but
I
I
think-
and
I
will
say
some
things
later
today,
but
before
we
vote,
I
just
want
to
say
how
absolutely
impressed
I
was
with
the
depth
of
knowledge
that
dr
balderas
brings
to
this
position.
A
A
His
work
with
difficult
budget
years,
which
is
something
that
may
not
pop
out
of
his
resume,
but
is
back
there.
His
work
with
the
business
office,
his
understanding
of
large
systems
and
how
you
align
those
systems
to
be
able
to
best
support
our
students
and
what
came
through
over
and
over
in
all
of
his
responses
to
us,
was
a
focus
on
students,
putting
students
first
and
doing
what's
right
for
students
and
in
a
thoughtful
way
too,
in
a
way
in
which
he
was
including
a
larger
and
larger
circle
of
people
and
their
concerns.
A
It's
incredibly
empathetic,
and
that
type
of
leadership
I
think,
is
going
to
take
beaverton
to
the
next
level.
So
we
are
so
excited
to
have
you
coming
with
us,
dr
balderas,
and
I
will
be
in
emphatic
yes
when
I
get
to
do
that
in
just
a
second
here.
So
if
I
don't
hear
any
other
comments
from
the
board,
I
think
we
can
move
to
a
vote
just
give
one
more
chance.
Okay,
awesome!
So,
let's
see
we
will,
when
I
call
your
name
say
I
or
nay
and
we'll
start
with
susan
greenberg.
C
I
enthusiastically
vote
yes
for
our
first
bipark
bilingual
by
cultural
superintendent
in
the
beaverton
school
district.
A
Becky
tim
chuck,
aye
tom
collette,
an
emphatic
eye
and
with
that
dr
balderas
contract
passes
with
a
unanimous
vote
and
we
are
so
excited
to
be
working
with
you
in
the
coming
months
and
years.
Dr
balderas
welcome
to
beaverton.
A
So
I
think,
with
that
we're
gonna
we're
gonna
close
out
this
morning's
meeting,
but
it
was
great
that
everybody
see
everybody
here
and
I
hope
everyone
has
a
great
rest
of
their
day.
