this
is
a
phenomenon
that
you're
looking
at
and
we
want
to
start
kids
with
a
phenomenon,
but
we
actually
want
it
to
be
real
life
and
contextualized.
So
the
idea
that
we
have
kindergartners
doing
toy
contraptions
on
how
the
mid-forties
move
third
graders
doing
salmon
study
as
far
as
how
do
humans
impact
the
salmon
populations,
fourth
graders
being
able
to
do
their
own
life
balance
online
experiences.
A
So
if
we
want
every
student
Beaverton
to
have
those
rich
experiences
to
be
able
to
see
that
integrating
science
and
steam
brings
out
not
just
the
literacy
but
also
the
language
and
social
emotion,
now
this
phenomen
in
order
for
our
students
to
be
experienced
in
heaven,
we
actually
need
teachers
to
be
able
to
have
that
experience.
So,
let's
split
that-
and
can
this
be
the
professional
development
experiences
that
teachers
are
actually
participating
in
now?
Lately
the
bag
had
been
empty
as
far
as
the
steam,
professional
development
or
stem,
or
even
science
professional
learning
experiences.
A
But
what
we
can
do
is
provide
the
supports
as
a
district
to
be
able
to
have
teachers
be
immersed
in
some
professional
development
where
they
experience
the
scientific,
Neil
deGrasse
Tyson
talks
about
the
fact
that
if
you
are
stem
literate
or
science
literate,
the
world
looks
very
different
to
you.
So
what
does
that
mean?
So
teachers
experience
phenomena
and
create
phenomena,
contextually
contextualized
learning
experiences?
They
learn
how
to
do
the
connection
between
the
next
generation,
science
standards
and
the
common
core,
and
they
see
this
coherent
learning
progression.

Now
as
a
district,
we're
in
charge
with
the
fact
that
we
need
to
provide
those
supports
so
that
there
isn't
a
gap,
there
isn't
the
hole
there
isn't
the
loss
of
learning
the
loss
of
equity
with
it.
So
I
invite
you
to
be
able
to
come
and
see
the
hard
work
that
we're
doing
at
steam,
school
and
at
elementary
school.
It
is
hard
work
and
needs
to
be
done
in
collaboration.

why
there

talk

that
cookie,
we

talking

racial
justice,

poverty

LGBTQ
community

students

disabilities.

are
we
defining
student
success?
That
term
is
used
so
often
these
days,
and
that's
really
why
we're
here
but
I'm,
hoping
that
we
can
all
be
on
the
same
page
of
how
that's
being
measured.
So
we
it's
November,
we
are
experiencing
a
lot
of
exhaustion
in
our
system.
Are
our
members?
Are
our
teachers
and
educators
in
the
district
are
talking
about
feeling
burnt
out?
No
member,
it
doesn't
happen.
This
is
we're
feeling
the
way
we
feel
in
May.

It
feels
this
year
more
than
ever
before,
like
students
and
staff
are
in
a
pressure
cooker,
we're
under
pressure
to
perform
pressure
to
raise
test,
scores,
pressure
to
learning
targets
and
our
staff
and
I'm
talking
about
everyone
in
our
buildings.
All
the
way
to
our
principals
are
feeling
very
stretched
thin
and
we
all
recognize
that
more
support
is
needed
and
we
see
that
light
at
the
end
of
the
tunnel
with
this
additional
funding.

want
to
make
it
really
clear
and
the
times
that
we're
living
in
that
we
need
to
be
thinking
creative
creatively
about
how
we're
measuring
student
success
aspect,
scores,
attendance
and
graduation
rates
should
not
be
the
only
way
that
we're
measuring
our
students
and
their
successful
time
in
our
schools.
We're
here
as
educators.
I
know,
we've
talked
to
hundreds
of
our
members
about
where
became
educators,
and
it's
because
he
loved
kids
and
we
love
sharing
the
joy
of
learning
and
we
love
teaching
kids
to
be
lifelong
learners
and
making
our
communities
a
better
place.

students
are
kids
and
they're.
Teenagers
and
I
would
encourage
you
to
look
into
the
number
of
suicide
screens
that
our
high
schools
are
doing
on
a
monthly
or
a
weekly
basis.
It
will
break
your
heart
if
we're
not
taking
care
of
our
students
as
children.
First
we're
getting
it
wrong,
so
I
am
really
thrilled
to
be
meeting
on
a
couple
of
times
a
month
basis
with
the
Student
Success
act.

feel
like
we
have

long,
a
long
process
ahead
of
us
to
make
sure
that
our
community
feels
like
they're
a
part
of
that
process
and
I'm
happy

voices

sure
that
we

using
this
process

way

truly

entire

busy

We
have
amazing
kids,
they
need
a
lot

support

we're

say
that
it's
not
all
bad
there's
good
things.
I
know
working
in
a
classroom.

school
elementary,
focusing
in
a
specialized
program
is
very
different:
I
love
it
and
I
love.
My
team
and
I
love
the
new
opportunities,
that's
bringing
me
and
the
way
I
can
connect
with
students,
but
I
would
say
that
we
are
tired
and
we
are
not
staffed
to
the
way
that
our
students
need
us
to
be
and
we're
spreading
our
time
and
we're
cutting
it.

just
really
hope
to
see
the
options
we
have
the
community,
its
our
student
success
and
how
we're
going
to
roll
that
out.

black
students,
including
myself,
have
not
and
will
not
trust
administration
by

way
that
they
have
been
anything's.
Friday
November
8th,
a
student
who
is
a
sophomore
decided
that
he
would
wear
a
do-rag
to
school.
A
derive
for
those
of
you
who
don't
know
is
an
African
American
cloth
that
goes
on
your
head
to
make
your
hair
to
create
texture
and
waves
in
your
hair.
I
Group
of
three
boys
in
a
science
classroom
we're
having
a
conversation
and
knowing
that
there
was
an
african-american
in
the
glass
proceeded
to
talk
about
blacks
people
and
one
of
the
students
said
that
any
word
of
the
hard
arm
and
the
other
two
students
left
and
provoked
the
conversation.
The
next
day
proceeded
with
meetings
with
our
principal
and
administration
and
we
were
told
things
were
being
handled
and
that
this
situation
would
be
filled
with.
I
However,
later
that
day,
during
lunch
and
after
lunch,
three
more
incidents
occurred
with
students
using
the
n-word
and
the
incidents
began
to
arise
and
the
following
day,
two
more
incidents.
In
the
following
day,
one
more
incident
students
began
seeing
the
n-word
in
the
classrooms
and
all
over
the
school.
I
Our
our
principal
and
administration
have
failed
time
and
time
again
to
keep
our
students
safe
in
the
classrooms
in
the
halls,
at
lunch
and
general
many
students,
including
myself,
don't
feel
attending
their
classrooms
or
hate
speeches
spoken
in
and
don't
feel
safe
in
the
cafeteria
or
anywhere
in
school.
This
issue
has
been
brought
up
multiple
times
to
school
district
through
the
superintendent
and
other
staff
members.
I
I
am
tired
and
fed
up
with
the
way
we
look
and
acknowledge
hate
speech
and
the
way
we
treat
our
black
community
and
hard
times
like
this
I
have
not
been
able
to
sleep.
My
mental
habits,
my
mental
health
has
deteriorated.
I
have
not
been
able
to
focus
on
my
classroom.
Students
cannot
attend
their
classes
and
I
have
not
attended
all
my
classes
today.
I
This
is
the
culture
at
BHS.
Students
find
that
it
is
okay
to
say
hateful
derogatory
terms
of
black
students
and
make
them
feel
uncomfortable.
This
cannot
continue
and
those
involved
in
situations
must
be
held
accountable
for
their
actions.
This
is
a
matter
of
urgency
and
should
be
treated
as
such.
Black
students
at
Beaverton
high
school
do
not
feel
safe.
I
It
should
not
be
the
job
of
the
black
student
union
to
continue
addressing
and
educating
about
situations
like
this
in
the
future,
and
it
is
time
for
our
administration
in
the
school
district
and
even
school
board
to
stand
up
and
say
that
situations
like
this
should
be
dealt
with
appropriately
and
that
actions
will
be
dealt
with
immediately.
Racism
is
rooted
in
white
privilege
and
it's
time
to
acknowledge
that
as
a
district
good
time
to
take
concrete
steps
to
prevent
situations
like
this
from
happening
again.

schools

Conestoga,

a
small

Hills.
One
thing
I
learned
on
my
own
school
students
is
that
no
one
approach
works
for
all
kids.
Some
enjoys
swimming
in
the
bigger
pond
of
a
comprehensive
Middle
School
in
some
flourish
in
this
market,
finds
of
a
k3.

also
know
firsthand
the
incredible
opportunities
available
at
a
small
school.
Some
students
take
a
little
longer
to
grow
skin
and
develop
their
strengths.
Confidence
and
courage
are
so
many
of
my
artist
kids
go
from
shy.
Awkward,
sixth
graders
to
some
of
the
leaders
of
Everton
Aloha
sunset
and
Jesuit
High
School
I,
truly
believe
that
much
of
their
growth
was
because
they
were
allowed
to
flourish
in
a
comfortable
setting
and
not
be
thrust
into
a
situation.

third
kid

a
family
that
has
been
involved
with
the
Beaverton
School
District
since
year,
2000
I'm,
an
eighth
grader
at
Cedar,
Park
field,
school
and
I've,
been
doing
that
all
three
years.
That
I
said
there
and
is
very
important
to
me,
because
it's
a
change
of
pace
from
my
core
classes,
because
well
I
mean
I
choose
to
be
there.
You
get
to
do
that.

You
love
and
you
bring
a
joy
to
the
people
around
you
with
music
band
is
a
place
where
you
learn
to
have
good
habits
like
practicing
on
a
daily
basis
and
managing
your
responsibilities,
and
it
also
teaches
you
to
work
together
to
achieve
something
day.
I
personally
met
some
of
my
closest
friends,
their
band
and
I'm
sure
they
would
say
the
same
thing
that
I
have
about
how
important
band
is
to
have
every
day
with
band
class.

So
it
keeps
you
engaged
in
the
activity.
Some
students
have
a
hard
time
with
long
past
periods
because
they
may
not
be
the
best
for
that
subject
or
might
simply
does
not
want
to
be
there.
We
need
more
time
throughout
the
day
to
build
social
skills
and
have
a
creative
outlet
that
lets
us
have
fun.
But
we
challenge
the
classes
that
make
you
want
to
go
to
school
in
the
morning.

Are
my
elective
classes
because
I'm
choosing
to
be
there
and
it's
a
different
kind
of
challenge
that
our
core
classes,
having
two
electives
every
day
plus
PE,
would
give
us
a
physical
moving
that
we
need.
That
would
give
us
some
more
ways
to
build
social
skills
throughout
the
days.

appreciate

I'm
working
the
public
education
system

another
local
district

a
West
TV
parents,
and
have

recently
kind

aware
of

seismic
reports
available
in
the
district
website
and
it
came
across
it
by
accident.
That
can
be
quite
surprising
to
come
across
the
red
zone
by
accident.

within
that,
I
want
to
thank
and
acknowledge
the
students
who
came
here
today
to
talk
about
their
safety,
as
that
means
so
many
things
to
so
many
people.
In
regards
to
my
conversation
and
I'm
quite
concerned
about
the
physical
safety
of
our
students
in
regards
to
making
it
home
at
the
end
of
the
night
safety
for
our
current
educators.

Be
mindful
in
regards
to
the
current
bond
funds
that
are
available
and
thinking
about
those
for
use
of
the
red
zone,
schools
and
assessment
invested
involved,
schools
I
would
ask
that
you
would
then
make
seismic
issues
of
priority
in
regards
to
the
next
bond,
and
I
would
ask
that
you
acknowledge
and
make
the
seismic
report
available
to
those
who
don't
just
come
across
dead
by
accident,
but
also
be
aware
at
the
amazing
report
that
you
prioritize
as
a
district.

not
very
district
prior

things.

proud
of
that,
and
they
thank

doing

also
like

you

mindful

seismic

infrastructure
and
rebuilding

students

me,

students
are
students
at
the
elementary
level
who
did
not
have
cell
phones,
who
did
not
have
cars
and
gets
a
tiny
little
baby.
These
are
skills
and
investment
and
space
that
has
our
special
education
students.

reconsider
the
decision
to
take
away
in
the
middle
squash,
never
early

The
process
by
which
the
district
communicated
the
plant
closure
to
the
k-8
option
has
been
embarrassingly
at
odds
with
the
philosophies
prominently
espouse
across
the
district
website.
Partnership,
responsibility,
accountability,
collaboration,
superintendent,
runnings
page
on
the
VSD
sites,
specifically
outlines
his
commitment
to
transparency
and
building
trust
to
our
knowledge.

The
decision
to
Emma
Kate
adoption
at
Raleigh,
Hills
involved
male
parent
input,
no
teacher
input,
no
RHS
Administration
input
and
little
to
no
school
board
input
for
the.
Only
announcement
of
the
decision
was
shared
via
email
in
English
many
school
families
did
not
speak
English
and
she
said,
you
know,
have
email
since
October
eighth
announcement.
We
think
how
there
are
many
families
who
had
no
idea
of
the
news
and
we're
totally
blindsided
to
hear
at
secondhand
beginning
today.

The
district
has
the
opportunity
to
make
good
on
its
commitments
to
trust,
transparency,
partnership,
responsibility,
collaboration
and
accountability.
We
hope
you
choose
to
live.
Do
the
right
thing
as
well:
the
timing
of
the
k-8
closure
announcement
has
essentially
turned
the
failure
of
our
key
adoption
into
a
foregone
conclusion.
The
decision
to
close
was
announced
on
October
8th
the
next
opportunity
to
have
a
dialogue
with
the
district,
as
opposed
to
this
monologue.
You're
hearing
right
now
has
been
set
for
an
information
session
on
December
7th.

That's
nearly
two
months
from
the
announcement,
and
only
four
days
before
the
district
deadline
for
option
school
applications.
The
timing
of
the
announcement,
plus
the
lack
of
meaningful
information
or
destroyed
response
no
doubt
also
contributed
to
low
turnout,
the
open
house
this
last
week
and
low
engagement
at
the
middle
school
open
house.
This
uncertainty
around
both
the
long
and
short
term
the
middle
school
at
le
fils
will
entirely
have
a
chilling
effect
on
the
volume
of
applications
repeat
scene
for
you
to
domain
or
being
used
in
the
dialogue
and
delay
the
option.

Possible
leap
is
a
multi-cultural
each
organization
in
the
community
part
within
this
district,
but
across
this
room,
our
environment
is
a
compilation
of
change
in
this
city
and
redesign
real
life

strong
partnership

mainly
just
heard
of
earlier,
but
was
didn't,
leave
the
high
school.

base
year
and
half
shell

a
bit
of
our
students,
principals
were

and
our

district

the
Reid
programs

schools

runnin
counterintuitive

homeless,

website

the
district,
a
part
of
the
kindergarten
curriculum
is
not
to
recognize
that
there
are
many
ways
to
express
gender.

is
not
only
unnecessary
for
kindergartners
to
know
in
their
health
class,
but
it's
also
detrimental
to
their
well-being.

Such
young
children
easily
absorb
information
that
has
put
forward
by
their
teachers
in
classes
and
as
the
school
district
has
a
stated
goal
of
avoiding
indoctrination.
It's
difficult
to
understand
why
we
would
teach
children
such
things,
but
it's
not
difficult
to
understand
such
biologically
incorrect
ideas
would
cause
undue
stress
and
confusion.
The
students
regarding
their
gender.

Now
this
with
this
rhetoric,
increases
until
high
school,
where
the
curriculum
sticks
to
the
same
message
and
seeks
to
teach
students
about
the
differences
between
biological
sex,
sexual
orientation,
sexual
identity
and
sexual
and
sexual
behavior,
gender
identity
and
gender
expression.
Now
much
of
what
was
just
listed
is
left-wing
ideology
and
not.

Their
children's
safety-
they
first
need
to
be
informed,
then,
to
my
knowledge,
that
report
has
not
ever
been
sent
directly
to
parents-
maybe
an
email,
something
like
that.
I
think
would
also
be
helpful
to
have
some
layman's
terms
explaining
it
so
that
they
don't
panic,
I'll,
send
more
information.

But
I
think
there's
two
main
challenges
that
we've
had
with
this
whole
concept,
and
one
I
think
is
the
least
mentioned
it
earlier:
zero
communication
with
the
teachers,
the
PTO,
the
families
and
the
community
as
a
school
at
Raleigh
Hills
in
Canada,
we
pride
ourselves
on
being
extremely
communicative
and
involved.
Our
PTO
is
one
of
the
most
active
peaking
around,
and
not
only
were
we
blindsided
by
this
from
the
email
that
just
got
sent
out
but
saw
our
teachers
when
we're
getting
text.
Messages
from
the
teachers
mean
like
I,
have
no
idea.
V
So
now,
basically
we're
going
to
be
taking
children
at
the
age
of
10,
which
is
by
far
their
most
delicate
and
influential
years,
ripping
them
from
the
one
stable
school
environment.
Then
we'll
put
it
in
a
new
school
learning
to
deal
with
a
series
of
other
adults,
while
they're
still
trying
to
understand
how
to
go
with
their
own
friends
and
then
the
K
through
8
schools,
succeed
because
they
provide
this.
They
provide
a
more
personal,
intimate
environment.
V
It's
a
lot
of
research
that
goes
into
it
too,
and
as
someone
that
has
dealt
with
anxiety,
my
entire
life,
the
daughter
that
and
knowing
that
one
in
20
kids
deal
with
anxiety
and
depression
on
a
regular
basis,
uprooting
them
from
a
stable
environment,
that's
family,
focused
I,
think
is
not
the
right
decision
to
make.
I
also
feel
that
and
from
research
shows
that
parents
tend
to
disconnect
once
they
graduate
from
Pedro

and
that
middle
school
or
junior
high,
the
parents
aren't
involved,
and
that's
what
probably
those
is
all
about.

We
are
very
involved
and
truly
hope
that
you
guys
look
at
this
and
truly
consider
not
making
this
just
on
budgetary
reasons,
but
more
on
a
personal
reason,
and
the
ultimate
goal
is
of
Education
is
to
spark
a
pursuit
of
knowledge
and
the
child
so
that
they
keep
them.
So
they
keep
learning
as
they
grow
into
whatever
they
choose
to
be,
and
hopefully
making
this
world
a
better
place.
And
that
is
really
what
the
key.

a
lot
of
ways,
those
kids
are
huge
academically
and
socially.
My
daughter
has
flourished
there
despite
disability.
In
fact,
and
a
lot
of
that
confidence
came
from
Beaverton
high
school.
Her
from

will
both
have
gone

up

leaders

a
camp

run
both
here
in
Onalaska
and
summer
because
of
the
the
mentoring
relationships
that
they
have
working
as
middle
school
students
in
the
elementary
school
classrooms

to
take
that
away
would
be
devastating
not
just
about
school
community
but
to
the
community
in
general,
because
those
kids
go
out
and
they
work
at
Tolton
health
parks
and
recreation
camps.
They
work
as
you
can't
they
work
all
over
the
city
and
but
based
on
the
experience.

the

year

a
parent,

make
reports
and
had
to
speak
to
staff
about
the
concerns
and
the
inviting
the
worries
and
the
threat
that
my
sixth
grader
particularly
was
experiencing
today
in
the
car,

describing
an
event
in
the
locker
room
at
Christ's
Irving
with
kids
exposing
themselves
banging
on
lockers
were
then
they
cowered
and
hid
his
he
and
his
friends
behind
a
curtain.

dressing
curtain
then
plug
commuters
staff
were
there,
but
they
weren't
cleared
from
the
locker
room.

he's
describing
a
typical
day
being
a
day
like
the
day,
a
student

into
the

community

that
the
bigger
middle
schools
or
not
they're,
not
good,
but
what
we
haven't
really
Hills
is
pretty
special
and
the
fact
that
you,
you

want
to
dismantle
this

chosen
to

know,
there's
reasons
beyond
that.

we
started,
we
really
feel

this
community
presence

trolly

something
that
travels

high
school

by
taking

community
presence
away

there's

strong
core
there

undeniably
part
of
so
many
different
things
like

the
Beaverton
success
fund.

going

students
are
mixed
with
other
students
to
pick
on
us.

choose

been
wanting
to
expand
our

advising
with
bullying
and
calm
centered
toward
the
Rachel
Carson
community.

required

learning

know

literature
about
how
environments

foster
strong
relationships

teachers
and
students
are
really
those

allow

learners

flourish.

when
deciding
which
mill
school
experience
to
pursue
multiple
Beaverton
high
school
teachers
said
that
students
from
Raleigh
Hills
middle
school
come
to
them
as
more
socially
confident
and
academically
stronger.

the

students
were
allowed

pass

the
Rachel
Carson
hallways
and

the
walls

high
anxiety

the
district's
most
passionate
students

this
program,

feeling
any
compassion
from

books

they
try
to
excel

one
of
the
district's
benchmark

placement

exactly
would
that
entire
classroom
report
the
instance,
the
intimidation
and
where
was
the
supervision
of
the
fighters?

is
no
reason
for
the
artsy
staff
to
be
leaving
their
classrooms
unattended,
having
a
positive
instruction
time
to
play
hall
monitors
for
vitals
problems.
These
students
deserve
uninterrupted
lessons
every
day
and
the
Rachel
Carson
students
in
cell
are
suffering.
We
need
action,
not
the
complacent
responses
that
we
and
so
far
there
are
too
many
instances
to
cover.
In
my
two
minutes,
the
interrupting
classes,
the
yelling
obscenities,
the
mobs
in
the
hallways,
the
harassment,
intimidation
and
bullying
at
all
Rachel
Carson
students
means
to
stop
what
will
it
take?

I
asked
for
the
board
seriously
enforce
its
own
anti-bullying
policy.
Both
of
my
children
have
always
felt
safe
and
welcome
to
Rachel
Carson.
However,
this
persistent
harassment
and
the
constant
interruptions
have
changed.
Those
feelings
make
no
Doubt's.
A
hostile
educational
environment
has
been
created
that
by
those
and
that
directly
interferes
with
my
child's
psychological
well-being
and
my
own
I
ask
that
you
give
more
support
to
the
Rachel
Carson
staff,
making
better
plan,
and
always
these
teachers
grow
glued
kids.
There
I've
seen
it
best
kids
in
all
my
hours
with
your
district,
please
help
them
succeed.

opportunities
for
implicit
for
kids
and
families
to
choose
what
environment
is
best
for
their
families,
and

world

rapidly
evolving

utmost
respect

often

not
easy

hearing

staff

more
support
and
instead
we're
cutting
something

undoing

understand

some
financial
impacts

these

not

leaders

most
important
focus

priority

kids

future
education

those
kids.

focused
on

real
stakeholders

people
who

the
community
at
large
could
be
negatively
impacted.

difficult
person

and
a
young
person's
life
slew

hormonal
changes,

greater
responsibilities,

we
all
know

them

stable

are
hugely
impactful.
These
are
with
kids,
who
have
a
stronger
sense
of
community.

collaboration

young

go
to
middle

mentor
the
young

grade.
However,
he
was
devastated

the
Rolly
fields,
families
to
hear
that
the
district
was
been
consumed
at
a
whispered.
His
principal
met
with
parents
and
teachers
and
staff
members
and
students
to
show
his
support
and,
in
the
end
his
Summa
class
was
able
to
stay
on
the
other
man.

daughter's,

grader
Rachel
Carson
she's
housed
at
five
Oaks.
She
adores
her
Rachel
Carson
teachers,
classmates
and
the
curriculum.
However,
in
her
first
weeks
of
school,
five
of
suits
began
harassing
the
Rachel
Carson
students,
physically
and
verbally.
Her
principal
had
commented
to
some
of
our
parents
that
she
in
the
last
year
this
was
going
to
be
a
problem
having
the
Rachel
Carson
kids
back,
because
many
of
the
five
Oaks
students
preferred
having
the
school
to
themselves.

of
problem
solving
this
very
serious
issue,
it
seems
to
a
fun

address
and
tell
Rachel
Carson
complained
in
September
months
after
she
suspected
problems
might
arise.

son.
On
the
other
hand,
he
can
walk

halls.

can
use
his
bathrooms
without
being
afraid
of
physical
harm
or
harassment
for
being
assumed.

student
at
Highland,
Park,
Jana
and
her
Rachel
Carson
peers
have
to
worry
because
they're
Rachel
Carson
students
they
may
get
hit
pushed
next.

student
died
in
Texas
from
being
met
by
the
way
yelled
at
harassed.

their
teachers,
be
assaulted,
physically,
and
we
have
been
recipients
of
repeated
bullying
just
because
they
are
Rachel
Carson
students.
As
you

see,
these
two
experiences
at
two
different
options
pools
are
shockingly
different.
There
are
four
and
a
half
miles
away
and
are
both
in
the
same
district.
The
other
option,
programs
in
Beaverton
have
state
school
environments.
Rachel
Carson
deserves
the
same.
It's
clear
and
at
the
title,
one
teacher
for
many
years
and
an
eld
teacher
that
file
Oaks
has
a
challenging
population.

oaks
can
focus
on
the

just

suits
body
rather
than

Timberline
community

safe
and
supportive
and
could
continue

be
so

Every
day,
I
drop
a
kindergartner
off
at
an
entrance

the
school,
where
middle
school
students
congregated
their
lockers
time
and
time
again,
I
watched
as
the
younger
children
get
dropped
off
and
walk
into
the
building.
The
middle
school
students
quickly
make
a
path
for
them.
One
morning
at
the
beginning
of
the
school
year,
my
daughter
and
another
girl
hesitated
at
the
door
I'm
sure
the
middle
schoolers
are
so
so
huge
to
them.

teacher
that
was
standing
outside
made
a
quick
request
could
summon
walk
these
girls
in
there
wasn't
a
single
moment
of
hesitation
and
two
older
girls
came
over
grab
the
hands
of
the
two
nervous,
kindergartners
leaned
down
and
smiled
and
asked
if
they
could
walk
them
to
the
cafeteria
I
think
it
was
the
lack
of
hesitation
that
struck
me
the
most
these
students
weren't
caught
off
guard
when
they
were
asked
to
help.
It
was
so
apparent
that
this
is
the
culture
that
has
been
set
in
place
at
really
old
school.

older
kids
are
not
separate,
they
are
all
there
to
work
together
and
to
help
each
other.
We've
got
many
many
many
letters
and
many
parents,
speaking
out
the
similar
stories
and
similar
experiences
graduates,
college
students
who
exited
the
wrong
house

grader
experience
a
bit
of
pulling
the
first
month

sixth
grade,
it
was
nothing
like
what
is
going
on
this
year.
It's
a
school
and
what
my
sixth
grader,
her
friends
and
others
have
experienced.
As
you've
heard.

of
us
have
worked
closely
with
both
administrators
at
the
school
nbsp
staff
since
the
beginning
of
the
school
year.
This
has
included
numerous
email,
communications
phone
calls
and
face-to-face
meetings
for
a
number
of
reasons,
I
first
reached
out
at
the
end
of
the
first
week
of
school,
when
my
daughter
was
coming
home.

Talking
about
how
much
the
five
bucks
hits
floor,
the
fact
that
they
were
calling
our

students,
horrible
names
and
the
fact
that
my
daughter
was
being
called
a
due
to
the
fact
that
she
wears
a
bandana
for
an
anxiety
related
to
hair
loss.
Later,
like
two
or
three
weeks
later,
she
was
being
called
from
blood
and
then
it
came
to
light.
They
were
actually
calling
her
a
creek
for
a
blood
depending
on
the
color
of
bandana
that
my
11
year
old
daughter
was
wearing
to
school
to
cover
her
bald
head.

couldn't
believe
what
I
was
hearing
and
I
did
not
hesitate,
and
mr.
got
a
nose
ticket
to
new
my
dialogue
with
the
RC
&
fo
meters.
His
dialogue
has
been
helpful
in
getting
leaders
on
board
and
making
some
changes,
but
unfortunately
the
changes
have
not
been
enough.
We've
also
been
met
with
excuses,
such
as
their
limited
resources.

staff

Tigers

cetera
in
the
last
two
weeks.
My
sixth
grader
has
experience
to
experience
to
sexual
harassment
incidents,
one
which
required
me
to
completely
pulled
her
from
PE
class
and
another
incident,
which
has
resulted
in
her
requiring
a
chaperone
is
she
goes
to
band
class
as
you've
heard,
a
lot
of
people
are
having
these
negative
experiences.

come
home
crying
every
day,
I
know
of
substitute
teachers
who
had
fought
in
the
school
and
Sutton
had
refused
to
return
teachers
who
threatened
to
quit
the.

the

morning,

as
you
can
imagine,
spirits
were
putting
down
that
that
day
of
our
biggest
school
pride
event
of
the
year,

think
what
is
important
to
me
is
that
Raleigh
Hills

option
school
right,
so
it's
not
for
everybody.
We've
got
comprehensive
middle
schools
in
the
district.
We've
got
lots
of
other
option
schools
to
meet
the
different
needs
of
kids,
because.

same
they
have
different
needs
and
different
experiences
are
going
to
be
better
for
that
and
in
Raleigh
Hills
it's
an
option
school
you
apply
for
it.
The
parents
and
the
kids
that
are
choosing
to
go
there
are
making
that
informed
decision
based
on
the
experience
Raleigh
Hills
can
give
so
to
take
that
option
away
when
it
is
obviously
so
successful
that
applications
every
year
the
classes
are
nearly
full.

kids

that

stay

the
school
kids

succeeding

high
school
level

take
something

successful

the
challenges

many
of
the
other
schools
in
our
district
is
even
more
baffling
to
me,
because
I
know
that
it

hard
thing
to
manage
a
huge
district
in
so
many
schools.

firehouse
middle
school

whole
bunch

stuff
here,

these
guys
set
it
all
really
well,
but
the
best
statement

made

the
kids.
They
came
up
here
and
spoke
about
all
of
these
issues
when
you
have
a
child
in
tears.

be

want
to

know

group

parents

you've
heard

lot

complaints,
you've
got
a
lot
of
anguish,
we're
already
here
to

this

favorite
school
district

school
board

the
administration
reconsider
their
decision

refer
her
Royals
to
a
caterer
five

maintain

auction

relocated
back

the
Portland
metro
area
and
shows
locate
our
family
and
the
Beaverton
School
District,
and
that
was
over
many
of
the
area
of
districts,
and
that
was
basically
because
we
received
an
excellent
education
here
and
then
also
because
the
ISTE
truly
seems
to
prioritize
student
success
and
we're
not
alone
on
this.

reason
for
purchasing
home
this
year
was
literally
to
move
into
the
royalty,
great
district
or
boundaries,
and
this
was
an
artist.
Much
of
this
research
we
found
shows
the
catering
model
will
promote
the
success
of
our
children,
who
deal
with
anxiety,
as
I
mentioned,
I
assumed
DSD
found
similar
research,
which
is
why
this
program
was
instituted
in
the
first
place.
So
I'd
like
to
maybe
ask
everyone:
we
will
revert
back
to
why
this
was
put
in
place
originally
because
it
wasn't.

soon
after
cooking
our
house,
we
learned
the
district's
had
approval
in
Asia
to
keep
your
option.
We
found
no
prior
communication
or
collaboration.
You
were
there
with
district
families
prior
to
this
decision.
We
understand
budget
constraints
and
I

like
to
stress
that
people
locate
in
this
district
because
of
programs
such
as
these
all
these
oxygen
programs
that
are
hugely
successful
and
helpful,
and
we
which
increases
attendance,
increases
funding
and
then
therefore,
should
help
with
the
concerns
I
believe
through
collaboration
and
stakeholder
and
district
families.

haven't

checked

teasing

disruption,

assault

who's
gonna
bring
the
gun,
but
we
gonna
be
the
parents
that
have
to
be
crying
in
tears,
because
these
five
Oaks
students
have
not
been
checked,
and
that's
my
fear,
every
time
and
now
I'm,
not
the
entire
hyperbolic
and
a
not
exaggerating,
I
have
a
son
of
the
Highland
Park.
None
of
these
issues
are
here
and.

these
kids
are
being
targeted
to
a
level
that
I

talked
with
legal
consultants.
To
save
it
yeah
it
could
be
defines
the
hate
crime.
In
fact,
scary
to
me,
this
situation
wants
change.

unsupportive

the
hand
and
collecting

getting
an
armed
guard.

have
to

many
of
the
Rachel
Carson
parents
would
be
eminently
disagree
with
me,
but
what
we
can
be
very
agree
upon
is
something

be
done.

decision
on
purchasing

home
solely

the
rolling
estate

a
bus
driver
who
couldn't
make

drove

school
bus

Hills
last
year.

also
live
off
Scholes,
very
close
to
rolling
hills.

driven

diversion
schools
for
five
years
now
and
drove
out
of
most
of
the
school.
The
children
at
rolling
hills
were
by
far
the
best
behaved
and
well-mannered
children.

on

bus,
in

experience,
I
believe
keeping
the
sixth
through
eighth
graders
in
that
structure.
Environment
is
so
much
better
for
them
to
evolve
into
young
adults.
The
older
kids
actually
looked
out
for

younger

was
none
of
the
foul
language
I
have
experienced
in
other
middle
schools.
If
some
kids
were
acting
out,
the
others
would
call
them
on
it.
I
don't
need
to
make
them
sound
like
angels.
They
all
had
their
days
like
all
kids,
but
for
the
most
part
they
were
good.

society

us

right
thing

allows

him

shocked

nurse

just
issuing
suspensions
as

doesn't
really
work

well.

badge

honor

issues
keep

is

the
first
bullying

is
there
not

better
process
to
follow,

arisen

this

Council
on
american-islamic

chapter,
a
nation's
largest
Muslim
civil
rights
organization
and
one
of
the
principal
authors
of
Oregon's

hate
crime

passed
unanimously
the
last
session.
The
reason
why
I'm
here
today
is
that
we
have
current
persistent
problems
from
this
Muslims
and
students
of
color
at
beaverton
schools
and
also
in
Hillsborough.
We've
also
seen
persistent
polling
and
survey
a
there
that
underlies
and
shows
that
there
are
a
lot
of
racist
people
in
this
area.
Despite
what
people
think
more.

So
we
have
seen
in
the
past
month,
white
supremacist
stickers
that
have
appear
all
across
be
Burton.
There
are
is
a
white
supremacist
problem
in
this
city
and
there
is
a
white
supremacist
problem
in
the
schools
and
there
is
a
failure
to
properly
take
action
on
multiple
levels
and
I
understand.
As
a
fellow
board
member,
just
like
y'all,
you
set
the
strategic
vision
that
strategic
vision
is
failing
at
the
moment,
a
lot
of
different
students.

ever
have
survivors
even
have
the
capacity
to
start
learning
when
they
are
facing
direct
trauma,
and
in
addition
to
that,
when
they
are
talking
to
one
another,
they
are
becoming
the
victims
of
vicarious
trauma.

this

I
hope
tonight

becoming
vicariously
traumatized

a

has

successful
seasons.

multiple

apartments
built

There

is
currently

shopping,
mall
will
be
torn
down,
and
so
there
will
be
growth.

happening,
we're
not
sure,
because
the
depends
on

price
point,

necessarily
attract
families
at

price

will

committee
members

seven
vacancy

one

the
most
difficult
decisions
I've
made
in
school

remember.

number

highly
qualified
applicants

strong
financial
information
systems.

grateful
for
everyone
who
applied
and
offer
to
serve
on
this
unpaid
committee
to
support
our
students,
especially
at
this
time
for
the
difficult
budget
we
had
last
year.

superintendent's
contract
approval,
it
was
provided
to
the
board
what
the
contract
says.
The
superintendent
and
explained
he's
going
to
retire
and
in
that
we
as
a
board
would
choose

rehire
him
and
extend
to
him
a
new
contract,
and
that's
why
this
contract
is
being
extended
down
and
so
that
I
open.

Dawn's
retiring

working
back

contract

the
district
he
receive

received
favorable

seen

the
growth
in
our
student
achievement.

had
higher
degrees

graduating.

has
been
a
really
great
leader.

facing

see
just
from
hearing
what
the
parents

students
are
going
through
with
the
dysregulated

of
challenges
ahead

think
that
Don
is

best
person

lead
us

and

lot

superintendents
they're
sitting
down

whatever
reasons,

this

a
difficult
job
to
do,

all

quart

here
to
finish
the
work
that
he
has
started.
We
hired
him
to
look
at
early
education
and
we've
been
doing
that.

note
that
hiring

retaining
the
superintendent
is
perhaps
the
most
important
job
that
a
school.

managing
the

affairs

things

superintendent
rotting,
be
willing
to
work
for
the
kids
of

visited
in

last

weeks,
I've
been
to
Mackay
and
seen
the
amazing
works.
They
are
doing
their
school
every
day.
The
kids
in
the
playground
and
making

difference

behavior

been
to
Bose,
and
you
know
they
are
doing
amazing
things
in
their
school
and
I
was
particularly
touched
by
going
to
South
Ridge,
High,
School
and
I.
Just.

know
it's
something
that
we
talk
about
regularly
and
I
also
was
just
really
interested
to
hear
more
about
what
that
looks
like
his
own
need
of
like
I,
see
this
problem
and
I
know.
I
want
me
to
fix
it.
I
also
wanted

applaud
Donna,
because
I
had
the
opportunity
to
attend
the
session
that
she
courageously
planned
and
coordinated.

Aloha
high
school
I

asking
her
about
the
racial
tensions
at

school
because
they
seem
to
be
in
every
place
that
we
look
and
every
student
I
talked
to
seems
to
have
some
sort
of
problems,
but
the
nice
thing
about
it.
She
says
if
there
really
no
there's,
no
really
no
racial
tensions
at
Aloha.
So
that's
really
good.

She
said
the
only
incident
they
had
recently
is
when
they
were
planning
the
prom.
They
unfortunately
conflicted
with
bringing
the
Muslims
students
have
Ramadan,
but
the
Muslim
students
felt
comfortable
enough
and
talking
to
administration.
They
got
together.
They
ironed
it
out
and
guess
what
they
changed
the
date.
So
that
made
me
feel
really
good.
So
I
just
wanted
to
share
that.
That's
awesome,
yeah
and.

think
the
district
first
enemy
to
the
OSB,
a
you
know,
I've
been
on
the
board
for
five
years.

Think
it's
really
a
patient
here.
The
stores
from
other
districts
I
think
I'll
make
this
all
effective
before
the
board
mother
passing
bonds
or
getting
better
every
things
we're
working
on
in
subcommittee.
So
thanks
for

trustee

like
really
private
about
the
team,
you
guys
hear
like
Donna's,
really
respect
around
