The Beaverton School District has nearly 300 buses that transport approximately 28,000 students each day.

This week is National School Bus Safety Week. We wanted to share the important work of some folks behind the scenes — the people who keep all of those buses up and running. Take a look!

So before I got a job here at a school district,, I was in the army for nine years.. I was a wheeled.

A

Vehicle mechanic,, so for nine years I did pretty much what I'm doing now, just uh, obviously,. We.

Didn't have kids, but we had to keep the equipment up and snuff because it was transporting soldiers.

A

What I enjoy most about my job is just being hands on and just being able to come up to something.

A

That's maybe a complicated fix and trying to work through that.. I really like problem solving and.

A

Just trying to figure new stuff out., we have just under 300 buses here with the school district.. We.

A

Have two electric buses.: we have about 70-ish propane buses in our fleet and then everything.

A

Else is diesel-powered. on a day-to-day basis, we're inspecting vehicles on wet and dry surfaces,.

As well as every month has a slew of annual inspections, we have to do for ode.. We fix anything.

That breaks the same day., it's just constant flow of surprises. Every day.. I think all of us have the.

A

Thought in the back of our head as we work on the buses like it's.

Making the bus able to transport those kids safely. good morning., we don't have everything.

Under our control, ,obviously stuff happens that we can't control or we can't predict, that's going to.

Happen,But letting the bus leave our shop as safe as possible is our number one priority.
