A
A
So
good
evening
and
welcome
to
the
Bellevue
youth
links,
33rd
annual
community
leadership
awards,
my
name
is
Tony
Esparza
and
I'm.
Also
an
assistant
director
in
the
Bellevue
parks
and
Community
Services
Department.
The
Bellevue
youth
link
program
is
part
of
our
family
Youth
and
teen
services
division.
We
are
excited
that
you're
here
tonight
and
we
really
appreciate
you
coming
to
help
us
support
our
award
winners.
We'd
like
to
begin
by
having
our
youth
link.
Board
youth,
co-chair
Richard,
Lee
read
a
land
acknowledgment.
B
The
city
of
Bellevue
acknowledges
that
we
are
on
the
indigenous
land
of
the
Coast
Salish
peoples
who
have
reserved
treaty
rights
to
this
land,
including
the
duwamish
Suquamish
tribe,
makushu,
Indian,
tribe
and
Snoqualmie
Indian
tribe.
We
thank
these
caretakers
of
this
land
who
have
lived
and
continue
to
live
here
since
time
immemorial.
B
We
would
also
like
to
share
this
additional
statement
from
the
duamus
tribe.
It's
important
to
note
that
this
kind
of
acknowledgment
is
not
a
new
practice
developed
by
Colonial
institutions.
Land
acknowledgment
is
a
traditional
custom
dating
back
centuries
for
many
Native
communities
and
Nations
for
non-indigenous
communities.
Wind
acknowledgment
is
a
powerful
way
of
showing
respect
and
honoring.
The
indigenous
peoples
of
the
land
in
which
we
work
and
live
acknowledgment
is
a
simple
way
of
resisting
the
Erasure
of
indigenous
histories
and
working
towards
honoring
and
inviting
the
truth.
A
Thank
you
so
much
Richard
for
sharing
that
acknowledgment.
May
youth
link
recognizes
children
and
teens
who
serve
our
community
and
make
a
lasting
positive
impact
in
our
lives
tonight,
we're
here
to
honor
each
and
every
one
of
them.
For
the
past
33
years,
we
have
invited
nominations
for
several
youth
award
categories
to
recognize
our
youth
leaders
in
Bellevue
to
ensure
that
we
recognize
and
celebrate
diverse
forms
of
youth
leadership
and
service
categories
include
things
such
as
advocacy,
support,
allyship
diversity,
equity
and
inclusion.
A
This
year's
theme
is
youth.
Leadership
is
active
and
growing,
and
to
show
that
we
received
over
120
nominations,
it
was
inspiring
for
our
youth
planning
committee
and
staff
to
read
about
the
many
ways
our
nominees
and
winners
serve.
The
community
help
their
families
and
our
exemplary
role
models
to
others.
Tonight
you
were,
you
will
hear
powerful
Testaments
of
how
our
young
youth
leaders
have
risen
to
the
challenge
as
Community
leaders
and
responded
to
the
needs
of
our
community
in
their
own
way.
C
Hi,
everyone
and
good
evening
my
name
is
davica
Villas
and
I
serve
as
the
adult
co-chair
for
our
youth
link
board.
The
board
consists
of
12
youth,
six
adults
who
work
together
in
equal
partnership
and
who
are
appointed
by
the
city
manager.
The
board
advises
the
city
manager
on
youth
issues.
The
board
also
supports
projects
and
organizations
that
serve
children
and
teens
in
Bellevue.
C
C
Our
board
works
to
affect
change
from
a
systems
and
program
level
partnering
with
key
Community
Partners
and
stakeholders,
for
example
the
board
partnered
with
the
little
food
pantries
project
and
began
developing
our
own
Bellevue
Community,
Food
Pantry
Network.
So
far,
we
have
partnered
with
local
organizations
to
have
Community
food
pantries
in
The
Crossroads
and
Factoria
areas
stocking
nearly
100
times
since
last
summer,
whoo
and
with
support
from
a
Bellevue
rotary
Community
Grant
this
summer.
We
will
also
be
able
to
expand
these
important
resources
to
other
Bellevue.
B
Alongside
our
youth
linkboard
effort,
the
Bellevue
Youthland
Council
and
action
teams
have
responded
by
organizing
important
community
events
such
as
the
unity
through
diversity
event,
a
celebration
of
Bowie's
diversity
and
tackling
important
topics
relating
to
equity
and
inclusion
work.
We
also
hosted
a
Citywide
involvement
conference
last
month,
bringing
together
young
people
to
learn
and
discuss
important
youth
priorities
in
Bellevue
as
we
move
forward.
Our
youth
link
program
will
continue
to
work
closely
with
our
city
manager,
local
suits
schools,
Community
providers,
agencies
and
residents
to
center
youth
voice.
D
Thank
you
Tony,
so
good
evening.
Everybody,
it's
so
good
to
see
so
many
people
here,
especially
on
such
a
nice
day.
It's
a
it's
a
true
Testament
of
you
know
how
important
we
place
youth
leadership
in
in
the
city.
Here
we're
going
to
begin
the
awards
portion
of
our
program
by
acknowledging
the
teens
and
adults
who
volunteer.
They
are
the
heart
and
soul
of
our
program.
This
year,
the
largest
youth
link
membership
on
record
we
had
was
over
140
plus
students
in
Bellevue.
D
D
Thank
you
so
much
to
all
of
you
who
have
volunteered
your
time
now
it
is
my
honor
to
introduce
youth
League's
class
of
2023.
with
all
the
youth
link
seniors
here
tonight.
Please
stand
and
come
up
to
the
podium
as
I
call
your
name.
This
year
we
have
17
graduating
seniors.
They
are
Vincent
Chen,
Tiffany,
Choi,
Julius,
Chan,
Neo
Howe
is
anybody?
Are
they
here?
D
D
D
D
D
Each
of
you
have
made
a
difference
in
the
community
and
have
been
inspirational
to
younger
students
as
well
as
you
travel
and
experience
the
world.
We
hope
that
you'll
stay
connected
as
a
token
of
your
new
adventure.
We
have
luggage
to
take
for
each
one
of
you
to
remind
you
of
your
home
here
in
Bellevue,
so.
D
D
Thank
you
so
I
also
has
the
distinct
honor
of
presenting
the
norm.
Mailing

a

the
award
represents
the
work
of
King
County
prosecutor,
Norm
maling,
who
really
championed
restorative

social
justice
in
our
community.
This
year
we
have
two
Award
winners:
Siana
Isaac
from
Interlake,
High,
School
and.
D
D
You
know
these
two
individual
students
worked
on
addressing
disparities
and
needs
of
our
marginalized
communities
by
organizing
important
health
information
sessions
and
providing
much
needed
feminine
Phantom
hygiene
products
that
are
also
culturally
appropriate
and
sensitive.
Just
thank
you
so
much
sayana
and
Layla
for
all
your
great
work.
D
I
also
I
also
have
the
distinct

of

Since

this
honor
is
given
to

You
know
these
are
very
high
bars
when
we
evaluate
who's
going
to
receive
these
Awards.
This
year,
youth

has
been
privileged
to

These

this
evening,
so
they

but
we

for
the

We
depend
on
you
to
tell
us
about
these

in
our

I
also
want
to

So
Yasmin
was
nominated
by
Highland
middle
school
counselor,
Stephen
Ono,
who
said
that
Yasmin
is
an
advocate
for
self-identity
and
cultural
awareness
as
the
president
of
students
organized
for
anti-racism
or
swore

leader
able
to
share
out
who
she
is

Yasmin
has
a
quiet
leadership
when
she
speaks
her
voices
always
listen
to,
because
we
know
that
she
has
put
a
lot
of
thought
into
what
she
says
before
she
says
it
a
huge
strength
to
have
as
a
