From YouTube: Lake to Lake - May 2022
Description
This month’s Lake to Lake show offers scenes from the Bellevue Botanical Garden in spring, stories from community members who traveled from afar to settle in Bellevue, a chance to join with businesses to help the Fire Department get a new and nimble truck, and insights into the city's long-range planning process and our Experience Bellevue Neighborhoods Conference.
Lake to Lake is a production of Bellevue Television exploring some of the many exciting things that make Bellevue such a special place to live, work and play.

the
city.
A
A
Wow
that
looks
like
quite
the
way
to
experience,
bellevue

webpage
as

A
Next,
we
tell
you
how
the
bellevue
fire
department
is
thinking
ahead
and
working
on
the
best
ways
to
protect
our
city.
Among
all
these
wonderful
wooded
areas,
we
have
here
and
they're
getting
a
lot
of
help
from
the
local
business
community,
along
with
a
very
special
foundation
that
only
started
just
two
years
ago.
B
Amazon
is
providing
150
000
as
a
challenge
grant
to
help
us
raise
the
final
150
000
in
order
to
purchase
a
wildfire
brush
truck
similar
to
the
one
that's
behind
us.
My
name
is
laura
mathers
and
I
am
the
founder
and
president
and
ceo
of
the
bellevue
fire
foundation,
and
this
really
came
about
after
I
was
introduced
to
chief
hagen
in
the
need
that
he
had
for
learning
how
to
kind
of
supplement
the
budget
that
he
was
having
to
anticipate
in
the
future.
I.
C
Also
shared
with
her
my
concern
about
the
increasing
threat
of
wildfire
in
parts
of
our
community,
particularly
what
we
call
the
wildland
urban
interface.
Our
goal
is
to
acquire
a
type
6
fire
engine,
more
commonly
known
as
a
brush
truck
to
meet
this
threat
head
on.
A
brush
truck
will
allow
your
bellevue
firefighters
to
respond
more
effectively
with
lighter,
more
maneuverable
assets,
specifically
designed
to
tackle
the
fast-moving
wildfires
that
could
occur
in
wooded
areas.
We
see.
E
C
F
E
We
share
a
sense
of
community
here
in
bellevue
and
the
responsibility
to
be
good,
neighbors
and
stewards
of
this
beautiful
city
on
behalf
of
amazon
and
the
thousands
of
our
employees
and
their
families
who
call
bellevue
home.
We
stand
shoulder
to
shoulder
with
our
city
leaders,
with
chief
hagen
and
our
fire
department
and
our
neighbors
to
ensure
that
bellevue
firefighters
can
respond
quickly.
F
G
We
love
bellevue
the
anchor
of
the
east
side.
Our
city
in
a
park
is
full
of
attractive,
neighborhoods,
dynamic
businesses,
cultural
attractions
and
abundant
parks
and
trails.
The
people
of
bellevue
are
what
make
our
community
strong.
We
may
come
from
different
backgrounds
and
cultures,
but
we
share
a
common
vision
that
bellevue
can
be
a
place
where
future
generations
can
thrive.
G
Bellevue
is
growing
bringing
new
life
and
new
energy
to
the
city,
and
we
need
to
plan
for
that
growth.
That's
what
the
bellevue
comprehensive
plan
is
all
about.
The
comprehensive
plan
or
comp
plan
is
our
tool
to
guide
bellevue
toward
a
healthy
future.
It
helps
us
answer
the
questions.
Who
are
we?
What
kind
of
city
do
we
want
to
be,
and
how
can
we
get
there?
Practically
speaking,
the
comp
plan
serves
as
the
guiding
framework
for
future
growth.
G
It
identifies
long-range
goals
and
helps
the
city
council,
boards
and
commissions
and
city
staff,
make
thoughtful
decisions
about
housing,
transportation,
economic
development
parks
and
more.
The
comp
plan
sets
our
vision
for
the
future
bellevue
plans
for
people.
People
need
safe,
secure
and
affordable
places
to
live
a
strong
economy
with
job
opportunities.
G
G
We
need
to
ask
ourselves:
how
can
we
ensure
that
people
from
different
backgrounds
and
life
stages
have
the
chance
to
live
here?
Then
there's
transportation
with
proper
planning.
We
can
create
a
safe
and
sustainable
transportation
network
that
serves
everyone's
needs.
What
is
the
best
way
to
connect
bellevue's
communities
economy?
G
The
plan
also
lets
us
set
our
sights
on
a
vibrant
economy.
Helping
us
answer
the
question:
how
do
we
encourage
and
support
bellevue's
local
businesses
and
employers
environment?
We
also
need
to
prepare
for
the
environmental
challenges
that
we
all
will
face.
How
do
we
support
sustainability
in
bellevue?
G
G
G
A
Hopefully,
now
you
have
a
better
idea
of
the
many
pieces
and
partners
it
takes
to
plan
for
our
long-term
future.
If
you
want
to
be
a
part
of
planting
the
seeds
of
sustainability
and
shaping
bellevue's
future
through
the
next
20
years,

H
Welcome
to
an
evening
of
cultural
conversations,
my
name
is
carol
ross
and
I'd
like
to
welcome
you
to
the
annual
evening.
This
is
our
eighth
annual
evening
in
the
program
this
evening.
Is
we
carry
our
stories.
Each
of
our
storytellers
have
been
shaped
by
history,
cultural
expectations
in
migration,
either
by
choice
or
necessity.
H
I
Delighted
to
have
this
opportunity
today
to
introduce
our
storytellers
for
this
evening.
These
last
few
months,
it's
been
my
pleasure
to
meet
them
and
listen
to
their
stories.
As
I
worked
with
them,
our
storytellers
have
come
from
different
parts
of
the
world
and
the
us
to
make
their
home
in
the
pacific
northwest
they've
carried
with
their
memories,
hopes
and
dreams,
and
today,
they're
sharing
these
gifts
with
us.
J
It's
time
for
me
to
just
share
a
little
bit
with
you,
my
story.
When
I
was
about
like
eight
years
old,
I
was,
I
got
stuck
into
a
rebellion
in
my
country.
You
know
I
was
a
kid
I
was
going
to
school
and
then
my
sister
out
of
nowhere
there's
a
rebellion,
a
coup
d'etat
that
they
wanted
to
get
the
president
out,
and
so
I
got
cut
into
that
people
shooting
over
my
head.
I
was
trying
to
catch
the
bus
the
bus
couldn't
leave
because
rebels
were
coming
and
stuff
of
that
nature.
J
I
was
trying
to
join
my
sister
and
then
that
day
they
they
were
able
to
securely
take
the
bus
and
leave,
but
like
we
I
got.
We
got
splits,
our
schoolers
were
like
neighbors,
and
so
I
stayed
there
until
like
8pm
so
or
so.
I
just
hunkered
down
with
other
students
and
teachers.
J
Until
at
night
it
kind
of
ended.
My
parents
tried
to
send
my
uncle
come
to
get
me.
He
couldn't
make
it
all
the
way
because
of
the
shooting,
and
so
they
went
back.
I
got
back
that
day
at
night
by
myself.
I
lost
one
sandal
and
I
got
there.
I
didn't
know
I
was
when
they
dropped
me
at
the
bus,
so
I
asked
people
around,
they
led
me.
There
I
get
there
and
on
the
street
I
see
my
mom
and
my
parents.
They
are
like
very
anxious
and
then
they
see
me
they're
happy.
J
K
I
was
born
and
raised
in
tucson
arizona,
a
city
that
is
just
45
minutes
away
from
the
border.
I
myself
did
not
go
through
the
hardship
of
leaving
my
country
of
origin
for
another,
but
my
mexican
parents
did
and
before
that
my
chinese
grandfather
did
too.
I
didn't
cross
the
border
as
an
immigrant,
but
growing
up
so
close
to
the
border.
Influenced
me
greatly.
K
H
I'd
love
to
introduce
my
my
dear
colleague
ben
shahabi,
the
man
behind
the
lens.
L
I
was
eight
years
old
when
iran
and
iraq
war
happens,
and
I
still
after
45
years.
I
still
remember
the
time
of
the
alarm
silence.
We
have
to
go
to
the
under
grant
to
be
safe
and
I
was
worried
about.
Oh
my
god,
my
parents,
can
they
come
faster.
Am
I
going
to
lose
them?
So
still,
I'm
thinking
about
that.
So
it's
is,
is
really
hard,
so
I
just
want
to
bring
it
back
to
you
guys.
L
Can
you
close
your
eyes
and
imagine
what
if
happen?
If
it's
happened
to
you
any
reason
you
have
to
leave
your
country
now
for
war
or
for
any
reason,
what
do
you
expect
for
the
other
countries
when
you
go
there?
What
do
you
want
from
there?
Don't
you
don't
you
want
they?
They
they
welcome
you
warm
they
accepting
you
they're,
respecting
you.
They
don't
judging
you
because
of
color
religion
and
all
those
things.
So
it's
the
same
thing.
I
want
to
read
a
poem.
L
L
A
