A
Hello
and
welcome
to
laketown
lake
a
show
about
our
wonderful
city
of
bellevue.
I'm
your
host
robin
steele,
we're
coming
to
you
this
evening
from
a
beautifully
lit,
bellevue
downtown
park,
and
on
this
episode
of
lake
to
lake,
we'll
introduce
you
to
some
women
providing
service
and
inspiration
share
some
important
ways.
We
can
stay
safe
on
our
roads
this
winter
and
we'll
show
you
some
festive
ways.
We
can
still
celebrate
this
unique
holiday
season.
A
We
start
our
show
with
some
inspirational
women
in
fire.
Women
have
been
serving
successfully
in
the
fire
department
for
many
years
now,
but
there's
still
a
significant
gender
gap.
Recent
high
school
graduate
grace
huxtable
noticed
this
gap
and
she
asked
for
our
help
to
introduce
you
to
some
of
the
women
who've
inspired.
Her
here
is
grace
huxtable
and
some
of
the
very
successful
women
who've
served
bellevue
fire.
E
We're
just
really
excited
today
to
have
all
these
women
together
to
create
that
that
network,
to
rely
upon
to
to
train
with
to
reach
out
with
questions,
concerns,
comments,
ideas,
we're
excited
about
the
family
that
we're
building
all
of
us
instructors
here
today
are
so
encouraged
to
see
such
an
amazing
turnout
of
women.
We
have
about
35
women
here
today.
E
There's
not
one
profile
that
fits
this
role.
You
could
be
a
very
athletic
masculine
person,
you
could
be
a
very
feminine
person,
but
if
you
have
grit
and
if
you're
willing
to
work
hard
and
if
you
have
true
empathy
for
other
humans-
and
you
want
to
serve
your
community
this,
this
really
does
suit
a
lot
of
different
personality
types.
It's
the
most
amazing
job
I
could
have
ever
asked
for.
E
E
I
actually
drowned
when
I
was
about
two
years
old,
firefighters
and
my
dad
were
the
ones
to
give
me
cpr
and
resuscitate
me,
and
ever
since
I
did
learn
that
I
I
really
wanted
a
way
to
pay
that
forward
to
my
community
bellevue
is
my
hometown.
I
really
love
that
I
get
to
serve
the
people.
I
grew
up
with
my
friends,
my
family,
and
it
it
makes
me
very
proud
to
work
for
this
city.
You
don't
want
it
to
smash
into
that
gate
valve.
You
want
it
to
just
be
a
nice
smooth
transition.
E
D
D
We
go
on
cardiac
arrest,
calls
it
nothing
feels
better
than
to
be
able
to
resuscitate
somebody
give
them
a
functioning
life
when
they
wouldn't
have
had
that
chance
after
being
on
the
job.
For
a
few
years,
though,
what
really
is
important
to
me
is
the
sense
of
family.
I
started
the
academy.
I
was
a
little
anxious
because
I
knew
that
we
had
14
people
and
I
was
going
to
be
the
only
woman
in
this
academy,
but
immediately
I
was
just
like
them.
D
They
treated
me
like
a
sister
just
like
they
treat
each
other
like
brothers
and
I
had
a
lot
of
fun
and
it
was
surprising
to
me
because
I
expected
it
to
be
a
little
bit
different
and
it
was
actually
a
very
wonderful
experience
and,
to
this
day,
we're
all
very
close.
17
years
later,
when
I
came
to
station
2,
I
spent
14
years
here
and
just
like
any
other
firefighter,
I
became
a
part
of
the
crew.
I
ran
the
same
calls
that
they
did.
I
worked
out
with
them.
D
I
shared
meals
with
them
and
I
just
felt
that
sense
of
family.
I
was
on
the
job
only
three
years
when
I
was
diagnosed
for
the
second
time
with
breast
cancer.
I'd
had
it
once
before,
and
then
I
got
it
again
after
being
hired
here
and
this
community.
This
department,
my
co-workers,
came
around
me.
Incredibly,
they
were
all
walking
around
with
little
pink
bracelets
on
and
support.
D
F
It's
this
awesome
job
that
has
so
many
different
working
parts,
but
the
core
of
it
is
no
matter
what
you're
going
to
get
to
help
somebody
that
day,
and
so
it
has
this
built-in
awesome
job
satisfaction,
because
you
know
you're
doing
good.
On
top
of
that,
you
get
to
do
amazing.
Things
like
play
with
chainsaws
and
squirt
big
hoses
and
drive
big
trucks
around
and
smash
glass,
and
it's
just
like
a
lot
of
whipped
cream
and
cherry
and
sprinkles
on
top
of
a
very
important
task.
D
I
would
highly
encourage
young
people
to
explore
this
career.
Any
firefighter
will
tell
you.
We
have
the
best
job
on
the
planet
right
here
in
bellevue,
we
have
a
great
program
for
young
people.
You
can
start
as
young
as
14..
It's
called
the
bellevue
fire
explorers
and
you
get
to
go
out
to
the
training
center
with
the
crews
you
get
to
do
drills.
You
get
to
do
a
lot
of
things
that
we
do
on
the
job,
and
in
that
way
you
can
see.
Is
this
a
job
that
I
really
want
to
pursue
in
the
future?.
C
E
Important
it's
the
most
amazing
job
I
could
have
ever
asked
for
we
come
from
all
different
walks
of
life.
Some
of
us
went
to
college.
Some
of
us
were
in
the
military.
Some
of
us
wear
a
lot
of
different
hats
and
different
types
of
jobs,
and
maybe
we
don't
feel
like
one
particular
job
fits,
but
we
know
we
have
a
lot
of
different
skills
and
suddenly
there's
the
fire
service
which
forces
you
to
wear
so
many
different
hats
and
you
can
never
be.
E
D
B
I
most
look
up
to
that
I've.
Seen
with
that,
the
women
that
I've
met
here
is
they
are
so
they
are
confident
and
very
assured
and
what
they
can
do
and
know
that
they
belong.
