A
Hello
and
welcome
to
Lake
to
Lake
a
show
about
our
beautiful
city
of
Bellevue
I'm,
your
host
Robin
Steele
on
today's
show
we're
highlighting
summer
beach,
lifeguards
Bellevue's
new
fire
chief,
as
he
takes
the
oath
of
office,
ways
to
safely
navigate
summer.
Construction
highlights
from
a
new
neighborhood
planning
effort
and
an
overview
of
some
great
summer.
Events
you
won't
want
to
miss.
Of
course,
summer
is
the
best
time
to
enjoy
Bellevue's
beautiful
beach
parks,
but
with
drowning
being
a
leading
cause
of
accidental
death,
Bellevue
parks
and
Community
Services
wants
to
keep
us
safe.
B
Is
very
common:
there's
over
650,000
deaths
on
average
every
year
having
a
lifeguard
out
there
to
prevent
even
one.
The
impact
is
amazing.
Water
safety
is
vitally
important,
especially
early
in
the
summer.
The
water
is
still
extremely
cold
and
oftentimes
people
in
the
open
water
have
a
tendency
to
test
their
boundaries,
and
the
lifeguards
are
that
safety
buffer
to
keep
them
safe.
Lifeguards
will
be
on
duty
at
Newcastle,
Clyde
and
empty
beach
parks
through
Labor,
Day,
Chisholm
and
Chesterfield
will
have
lifeguards
on
duty
through
August.
B
19Th
Bellevue
is
the
only
city
on
the
east
side
that
has
this
many
Beach
parks.
The
lifeguards
are
there
to
assist
in
safety.
Parents
responsibility
doesn't
end
when
they
come
down
to
the
beach.
Just
because
lifeguards
are
on
duty,
we're
a
team
and
keeping
your
children
safe.
We
have
many
regulars
that
come
down
to
our
beach
parks
and
the
lifeguards
know
them
by
name,
and
they
know
the
lifeguards.
It's
just
having
that
community
environment
and
having
a
safe
place
for
people
to
really
enjoy
the
water.
That's
all
around
us.

the

I
know
that
the
experiences
that
I
have
had
will
help
me
face
the
opportunities
and
challenges
that
we
will
certainly
face
together.
E
Summer,
here
we're
expecting
another
busy
construction
season
downtown
and
throughout
the
city,
when
we
do
close
part
of
a
street
its
to
ensure
the
safety
of
pedestrians,
bicyclists
and
drivers,
as
well
as
workers
in
the
construction
zone.
To
do
that,
we
acquire
contractors
to
have
a
traffic
management
plan
for
their
projects
and
they
use
signs,
flaggers
or
spotters
to
make
sure
the
construction
zone
is
safe.
City
inspectors
make
sure
the
plan
is
implemented
properly
and
Bellevue
police
enforce
the
law.
Mostly,
we
rely
on
the
public
to
follow
the
rules.
E
Walkers
and
riders
should
be
aware,
obey
the
signs
and
follow
the
directions
from
workers
in
the
field.
Drivers
need
to
slow
down
and
watch
out
for
non
motorists,
and
everyone
must
avoid
looking
at
their
smartphones
while
driving
or
walking.
We
understand
detours
can
be
inconvenient
but
they're
there
for
a
good
reason
to
protect
you
and
the
workers.
So
please
be
smart,
be
safe.
Follow
the
rules
they're
there
for
everybody
recently.
A
F
Took
some
time,
but
it's
finally
arrived
and
we're
very
excited
to
be
presenting
to
you,
the
neighborhood
area
planning
process
and
the
program
itself
and
you're
going
to
hear
all
about
it
tonight
and
we
want
your
feedback
on
it.
I've
been
with
the
city
now
for
two
and
a
half
years
and
I've
been
listening
to
what
you've
been
saying
at
many
different
meetings
in
many
different
forums,
about
what's
important
to
you
and
we
tried
to
design
some
of
that
into
neighborhood
area
planning
program.
F
C
To
talk
about
the
collaborative
relationship
they
were
looking
for
as
part
of
the
neighborhood
planning
process.
We
really
intend
to
have
a
very
robust,
broad
and
inclusive
engagement
process,
we're
looking
for
a
lot
of
involvement
at
the
grassroots
level,
bringing
people
together
to
talk
about
all
your
different
ideas
being
able
to
weigh
them
from
a
whole
variety
of
perspectives
and
then
really
focusing
on
the
priorities
that
are
important
to
the
neighborhood.
When.
F
I
saw
this
slide.
The
one
thing
that
jumps
out
at
me
is
not
just
collaborative,
but
the
word
relationship
and
I
want
to
I
want
to
pause
on
that
for
a
moment,
because
we
want
to
have
a
real
relationship
with
you.
Yes,
and
that
is
us
working
together
with
you
and
being
a
relationship.
We
want
it
to
be
transparent,
we
want
it
to
be
open,
we
want
it
to
be
trusting.
You.
