A
Hello
and
welcome
to
Lake
to
Lake
a
show
about
our
beautiful
city
of
bellevue,
I'm
Robin
Haase
this
month.
We
feature
a
new
road
project
designed
to
keep
traffic
flowing
at
a
busy
intersection,
a
discussion
about
racism
today
and
a
free
workshop
series
designed
to
help
your
garden
grow.
First,
we
have
a
look
at
a
newly
completed
road
improvement.
Teresa
Berg
has
the
information
since.
B
Bellevue
was
first
incorporated
in
1953
the
intersection
at
northeast
eighth,
Street
and
128
avenue.
Northeast
has
been
very
much
the
same.
The
intersection
recently
underwent
a
major
rebuild
with
the
conversion
of
the
old
three-legged
intersection
into
a
new
four-legged
intersection
and
a
new
traffic
signal
system.
Traffic
congestion
will
be
reduced
by
completing
this
improvement
and
having
the
northeast
force
street
extension
open.
B
We
expect
congestion
will
be
reduced
at
the
northeast,
h,
street
and
hundred
and
sixteen
avenue
northeast
intersection,
which
is
one
more
step
in
addressing
growth
and
travel
demand
from
downtown
and
the
bell
red
area
in
late
februari.
The
new
leg
at
this
intersection
will
be
fully
operational
for
all.
Additional
improvements
between
northeast,
seventh
and
northeast
twelve
streets
are
expected
to
be
completed
this
summer
or
fall
for
more
information
about
current
and
upcoming
road
improvement
projects.

A
The
City
of
Bellevue
and
the
Eastside
race
and
leadership
coalition
recently
hosted
an
important
discussion
about
racism.
Community
leaders,
including
Mayor
John,
Stokes
and
councilmember
Vandana
Slatter.
Each
pledge
commitments
to
embrace
diversity
and
promote
acceptance
for
all
here
are
some
of
their
inspirational
remarks.
We.
C
I'd
like
to
just
read
you
my
pledge,
I've
on
Danis
ladder,
pledge
to
lead
with
open
eyes
and
open
mind
and
an
open
heart.
I
stand
for
a
future
with
you
of
equal
opportunity
and
commit
my
energy
to
the
ideal
of
a
society
free
from
racism
and
discrimination.
We're
diversity
of
race,
ethnicity,
gender,
age
or
ability
strengthens
and
unites
us.
C
D
Means
a
lot
to
me:
I
grew
up
in
a
segregated
society,
I
went
to
school,
segregated
schools,
and
what
is
amazing?
It's
not
that
far
long
ago.
This
city
is
poised
and
prepared
to
fight
racism
when
it
rears
its
head
and
threatens
our
residents,
our
business
and
our
communities
as
a
society.
Much
work
remains
to
see
to
be
done
to
see
one
another
as
human
beings
rather
than
some
product
to
the
pigment
of
our
skin.
D
We
need
to
have
the
courageous
conversations
and
I
plot
all
of
you
for
coming
today
to
take
part
in
this
conversation
that
cowardly
act
them
is
Coakley
spring,
endured
stimulus
from
ignorance
and
fear
and
comes
from
a
place
of
hurt
and
misunderstanding.
We
need
to
work
together.
We
need
to
have
mutual
respect,
we're
all
accountable
to
speak
up
and
we
see
injustice,
Azure,
here,
untruths
being
spoken
about
people
who
are
not
carbon
copies
of
ourselves.
Our
diversity
is
our
strength
and
we
believe
it
in
mean
it
and
we
practice
it
if.
A
You'd
like
to
see
the
entire
event
called
rejecting
racism
2016
it's
available
on
both
the
city's
website
and
YouTube
channel
for
more
than
30
years,
Bellevue
parks
and

has
partnered
with
King

and
Washington
State
University
to
host
an
urban
demonstration
garden.
Next
master
gardener,
Jim
Olsen
shows
us
a
free
lecture
series
available
to
help
you
get
growing
in
our
unique
Northwest
climate.
If.
E
E
Gardener
for
the
class
of
2013.
My
presentation
today
is
on
growing
orchids
pot,
size,
Phalaenopsis.
Typically,
the
root
of
the
story
is
that
they
like
to
be
crowded
in
their
pots,
and
so
this
phalaenopsis
has
been
in
the
same
size
pot
ever
since
I've
had
it
it'll
grow
a
little
bit
bigger,
so
I
tend
to
not
go
up
in
pot
size.
E
So
in
it.
With
this
on
tell
awesome,
you
can
see
that
it's
taking
up
most
of
the
pot
so
I'm
going
to
have
two
choices
with
this,
and
probably
after
this
flowering
round
I'll
make
that
choice,
which
is
to
divide
the
essentially
repot
it
divided
it
and
put
it
in
the
same
put
it
in
the
same
size
pot
or
go
one
size
up.
What's
what's
nice
about
gardening
in
the
northwest,
is
we
can
grow
so
many
things?
We
have
a
great
climate
for
a
huge
number
of
plants.
E
E
Obviously,
plants
want
to
pass
on
their
genetic
material
and
the
reason
orchids
bloom
so
long,
especially
here,
because
they
have
highly
specialized
pollinators,
and
so,
when
you
take
them
out
of
their
there,
normal
climate
that
Paul
later
is
unlikely
to
be
found
in
our
environment.
So
it's
going
to
say:
hey
I'm
still
here,
I'm
still
here
and
whatever
signals
it
sends
out.
E
So
that's
a
blessing
for
us
that
it'll
bloom
a
long
time
so
at
the
Bellevue
demonstration
gardens
or
this
lake
hills
facility
right
behind
us
are
plots
for
people
to
grow
their
own
stuff,
p,
patch
plots
essentially
and
down
a
little
bit
to
my
left
is
the
bellevue
demonstration
gardens
itself
where
the
master
gardeners
demonstrate
going
every
type
of
plant
in
the
world
that
we
can
grow
in
this
area,
including
cactus,
cactus
gardens
put
in
a
couple.
The
partnership
between
City
of
Bellevue
and
Parks
and
us
is-
is
a
very
powerful
one.
E
The
partnership
for
the
community
provides
resources,
information,
knowledge
on
home
gardening
and
in
every
one
of
its
forms.
For
the
Northwest
there's
Master
Gardener
workshops
in
a
variety
of
venues,
the
Bellevue
demonstration
gardens
has
it
every
saturday,
from
late
january,
through
october,
10
30
to
noon
on.
A
variety
of
topics
of
great
interest
to
the
whole
community.
