Hello and welcome to Lake to Lake a show about our beautiful city of Bellevue, I'm Robin Steele today we're biking around downtown and we're highlighting some great improvements for biking in Bellevue, a breakthrough for Sound Transit's, East, Link, light rail construction, the live at lunch concert, series and other fun upcoming events.

The City of Bellevue just opened new bike lanes in downtown Bellevue and kicked off a pilot bike share program. All part of a demonstration project designed to make biking in Bellevue, safer and easier I.

Appreciate you all coming out for our celebration of the opening of our hundred 8th Avenue demonstration bike lane project.

Well, I'm pretty excited about Bellevue. Getting some bike lanes in I. Think it's awesome, I think we need more bike lanes, it'll, slow down traffic and I think it will help with a congestion plus we'll all look a little bit better in.

Bellevue, we have not always been known as bicycle friendly this summer. 19 miles of bike lanes are going in and Bellevue that's a record and it's the result of good strong policy put forward by our City Council and execution. Then by the people who.

Work for us the new bike markings. It creates an alert for other drivers to acknowledge where the bike lanes are on 108 Avenue. The buffers create a safe pathway between drivers and bike and cyclists. So there's that separation that makes people a lot more safe while using a bike or even a line bike or having that extra space.

Makes me feel comfortable and then having the lines and having drivers, see that and and there's kind of a separation between us and them. It just makes me feel more at ease, I think.

It's a really good reminder for cars, because I also drive a car and when I see bike green bike lanes. I am just more cognizant that there's other people on the road they're not as fast as I am I want.

To thank Lyme bike for being here, we're launching our bike share program when you use your bike, share, make sure to put it back where it belongs. We're gonna actually have some spaces where we're asking you to put them back. We.

Have parking spots designated throughout downtown Bellevue to assist with parking the doctor's bike, sharing programs and we're hoping with a with the the new bike lane and the addition of the Douglass bike sharing program that Lyme offers it will help contribute with people and relieve congestion to the Eastside, suburban environment. It.

Is wonderful to have a protected bike lane through downtown Bellevue? We are going to be watching this over the next year. This is a demonstration project, so I need you to demonstrate I. Need you to ride this route. Make sure that you're out here write it as often as you can and show that bike lanes in Bellevue work that protected bike lanes are also things that make you feel far more comfortable and I'll. Recently, Sound Transit's City of Bellevue County and federal officials gathered to celebrate a major milestone for East Link light rail, the successful excavation of a new tunnel that goes from Main Street under 110th Avenue Northeast to here at northeast 6th Street.

We are making history across our region this morning. We are making history right here in Bellevue. We're completing a downtown tunnel that years ago was probably thought to be inconceivable, but today it's an elemental part of our East Link project. Our.

Council always unanimous in the desire to have a tunnel in Bellevue for light rail, and it's happened. I think that that is again one of the great things about Bellevue. We set a big goal and we work and work and work to make it happen. There's actually light at the beginning of the tunnel. It.

Is hard to imagine any single project that will do more to transform the map of this metropolitan area than East Link and this tunnel is an elemental part of it. It's going to keep Bellevue the prosperous city that it is continuing to grow, unobstructed traffic with access to two stations right here in Bellevue. This is an annual event that the velvet downtown Association puts on it's a 10-week series, 90-minute concert every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday through mid July through September 13th, we're here at the Bellevue library. Today this year our presenting sponsor is Virginia, Mason, Bellevue, Medical Center and we're going to have different concerts from various regional local artists at different venues throughout downtown Bellevue.
