A
Hello
and
welcome
to
Lake
to
Lake
a
show
about
our
beautiful
city
of
Bellevue
I'm,
your
host
Robin
Steele.
Today
we're
celebrating
some
major
new
events:
the
grand
opening
of
Maiden
Bauer
Bay
Park,
an
open
house
on
new
development
in
the
bell
red
area
and
an
important
milestone
for
Sound
Transit's
East
Link,
light
rail,
we're
coming
to
you
today
from
the
truly
spectacular
mitten
Bauer
Bay
Park,
with
a
special
grand
opening
celebration.
That's
30
years
in
the
making.
C
Bellevue
has
two
really
great
lakes,
Lake
Washington
and
Lake
Sammamish,
but
we
really
don't
have
a
lot
of
public
access
points,
so
this
becomes
a
public
access
point
at
really
the
place.
That
is
the
the
densest
urban
core
that
we
have.
It's
that
connection
of
people
to
water
and
to
what
it
means
to
be
a
city
in.
D
The
mid
1990s
when
we
were
looking
across
the
bay,
it
became
very
clear
to
us
that
it
was
really
going
to
be
important
to
connect
Maiden
bar
Beach
Park,
which
is
a
five
acre
beach
park.
We
owned
at
the
time
with
the
marinas
and
then
eventually
the
downtown
Park,
and
we
thought
that
was
a
really
great
long-term
vision.
D
B
Took
a
lot
of
people
who
had
a
vision
and
a
vision
that
could
endure
and
lots
of
people
over
literally
generations
to
be
able
to
see
the
difference
that
that
could
make
and
be
able
to
stick
with
it
and
have
the
persistence
and
the
tenacity
to
see
it
through.
Well,
there's
a
variety
of
people
that
made
this
Park
happen.
Today
there
were
a
number
of
people
that
worked
with
us
to
acquire
the
properties
that
was
necessary
to
expand
the
park.
E
D
C
B
Today
is
a
celebration
of
phase
one
yes
phase,
one
at
Maine
bar
Bay
Park,
the
City
Council,
has
approved
funding
for
the
design
and
permitting
to
complete
the
park
along
the
marina
and
all
the
way
up,
one
hundredth
connecting
to
Main
Street
well,
I've
been
the
Bellevue
parks
and
Community
Services
Director
for
19
years,
and
actually
I've
been
working
on
this
project
for
19
years.
And
so
you
can
imagine
really
how
important
this
has
been
to
me
and
to
the
department
and
to
the
city.
This
is
what
it
takes
to
deliver.
B
A
F
The
purpose
of
this
morning's
event
is
to
bring
together
residents
business
property
owners
to
get
an
update
on
the
bill
red
sub-area.
It
includes
topics
of
East,
Link,
light
rail
transportation,
improvement
projects,
community
development
and
economic
development.
The
bell
red
transformation
is
the
city's
effort
to
redevelop
a
ageing
light
industrial
area
with
new
urban
walkable
neighborhoods.
It
started
back
in
2009
when
the
Bell
V
City
Council
adopted
a
new
vision
for
the
area.
It
included
the
idea
of
new
neighborhoods
centered
around
the
East
Link
light
rail
investment.
G
Bel
Reds
impact
on
Dougs
economic
development
has
been
gigantic
already,
so
we've
seen
REI
commit
their
headquarters
at
the
spring
district
Facebook
is
bringing
offices
in
as
well
and
we're
seeing
the
opportunity
to
bring
more
retail
and
neighborhood
services
into
bel
red
to
help
bring
more
amenities
to
our
residents.
Bel
red
is
bringing
in
an
entirely
new
mix
of
residential
options
for
our
residents,
so
we're
bringing
in
more
multi-family
townhouses
and
it's
providing
an
opportunity
for
more
people
to
live
in
the
neighborhood
and
age
in
their
neighborhood
for
existing
businesses
in
bel
red.
Of
course.
G
The
transformation
at
the
moment
is
a
little
bit
difficult.
You
know,
being
in
a
construction
zone
is
never
fun
but
they're.
Looking
forward
to
the
end
result
they're
looking
forward
to
seeing
more
opportunities
for
for
their
customers
to
come
in
a
variety
of
new
people
to
be
living
in
the
neighborhood
to
be
able
to
frequent
their
businesses.
G
What
we're
hearing
from
businesses
about
bel,
red
and
its
attractiveness
for
them
is
that
it's
providing
a
variety
of
amenities
that
are
very
important
to
their
employees,
so
the
walkability,
the
access
to
multimodal
transportation,
whether
it's
bike
routes
of
the
upcoming
Eastland
construction,
the
availability
of
public
space
and
the
ability
to
live
and
work
in
the
same
neighborhood
is
really
a
driving
factor
in
their
decision
to
located.
The
transformation
of
Belgrad
will
have
a
large
impact
on
Bellevue's
arts
and
culture
scene.
G
Most
people
don't
realize
that
the
eastern
portion
of
dal
red
is
Bellevue's
Arts,
District
and
they're
already
over
a
hundred
creative
businesses
in
that
area,
ranging
from
pottery
studios
to
dance
shops
and
guitar
lesson
instructors
and
those
businesses
are
going
to
become
more
visible
as
Bellevue
continues
and
bell
red
continues.
Transform
it's.
F
Very
satisfying
as
a
city
planner
to
be
able
to
work
on
the
visioning
with
the
community,
the
adoption
of
the
policies
and
code
and
actually
seeing
those
efforts
turn
into
real
new
neighborhoods
that
we
can
come
out
and
meet.
People
who
actually
live
here
go
to
school
here
and
work
here
and
continue
to
engage
the
community
on
the
evolution
of
the
builded
area.
H
Blue
line,
we're
pleased
to
announce
is
now
50%,
complete,
you're
gonna
have
between
40,000
and
50,000
passengers
riding
the
blue
line
to
and
from
work
or
wherever.
They
want
to
go
right
on
this
bridge
when
service
begins
in
2023
it'll
just
take
ten
traffic,
three
minutes
to
travel
from
downtown
Bellevue
to
the
Redman,
Technology
Center,
and
only
20
minutes
to
get
from
downtown
Bellevue
to
the
international
district
Chinatown
station.
H
There
is
a
lot
of
federal
involvement
in
this
project,
some
80
million
dollars
in
grants
and
1.3
billion
dollars
in
TIFIA
loans
that
was
critical
to
moving
this
project
along,
but
no
entity
was
more
critical
than
the
collaborators
we
had
with
the
community,
the
city
of
Bellevue,
the
Sound
Transit
board
and
taxpayers
throughout
the
Sound
Transit
region.
This.
I
Is
a
really
really
exciting
day
to
be
standing
up
here
as
a
resident
of
that
part
of
Bellevue
who
works
in
Seattle
I've
been
crossing
this
construction
line
for
a
couple
years
now
and
to
watch
it
grow
up
out
of
the
ground
on
sometimes
it
looked
like
it
was
increasing
in
size
on
a
daily
basis
has
been
incredibly
exciting.
There
were
many
many
local
government,
electeds
staff.
I
We
really
need
to
call
out
the
Bellevue
transportation
department,
planning,
department
and
city
managers,
two
of
them
and
Mayor
Hellmann
ak
who,
who
all
worked
very
very
hard
and
very
very
collaboratively
to
get
the
plan
in
place
to
enable
this
construction
to
happen
through
the
City
of
Bellevue.
It's.
C
A
very
exciting
day
and
I
just
want
to
thank
truly
all
of
the
people
who
are
doing
the
hard
work
on
this
project
and
all
of
the
projects
in
Bellevue
and,
as
Peter
mentioned
labor,
the
trades,
the
the
contractors
in
this
case
Gemma
Carson's,
but
they
have
been
so
wonderful
to
work
with
and
to
make
sure
that
our
traffic
system
is
still
going
while
we're
building
this
some
incredible
example
of
a
light
rail
system
to
see
it
come
true,
is
really
a
dream.
Come
true
and
a
transformative
moment
for
the
city.
