Before
we
enter
into
executive
session
Mr
mcquillen's
on
the
way
he
got
stuff
stuck
in
some
traffic,
so
he
will
be
here
momentarily
so
I'm,
just
filling
in
for
a
few
minutes,
but
we
want
to
inform
everyone
that
Dr
Dixon
is
absent
tonight
for
some
big
news.
Dr
Dixon
is
currently
in
Texas
with
members
of
our
office
of
Technology,
Miss,
Diane,
Driggers
and
her
team,
and
they
are
being
presented
a
prestigious
national
award
for
their
work
on
community
building
initiatives,
innovation
in
and
out
of
the
classroom
and
building
strategic
Partnerships.

The
stated
purpose
of
a
debt
of
executive
session
is
to
discuss
the
release
of
teachers
from
employment
contracts
and
or
appointment
of
Administrators
as
needed
receipt
of
legal
advice
and
update
regarding
Jackson
versus
Berkeley,
County
School,
District,
six
expulsion,
Appeals
and
there
are
no
attendance
or
out
of
District
appeals
tonight.
Is
there
any
further
discussion
hearing?
None
will
call
the
question
all
in
favor,
please
respond
by
saying
aye
aye
opposed,
nay
the
eyes
have
it
7-0.
We
are
now
in
executive
session.

It
is
one
thing
to
sit
in
a

You
can
get
your

It
is
another
thing
to
get
the
Hands-On
collaborative
work
that
our
teachers
are
giving
in
our
Career
and
Technical
education
classes,
learning
how
to
talk
to
people
learning
how
to
work
collaboratively
in
a
group
on
a

Hands-On

That
is
something
that

Because
they're
doing
what
they're
being
trained

do
and
they
show
enthusiasm
for
them,
what
do
you
think
ish?
Not
bad
I,
just
want
kids
to
have
some
life
skills,
so
if
they
can
cook
for
the
little
brother,
the
cook
of
their
sister,
whether
they
pursue
it
at
a
post-secondary

or
not,
I
just
want
them
to
be
able
to

it
just
became

every

Wednesdays

we

We

I've

Today
we
have
a

I

I

someone

she's,
a
real-life

She
has
a
real

most
of
the

I

the

I.
Think
one
of
the
people
picking
on
us
here
to
look
forward
to
in
the

twins

Phillies

everyone
I'm,
even
wearing

Yeah
I'm
Willis,

I
was
in
the

41
years
I'm
a
native
of
Berkeley

my
homie
here
from
Cross

Berkeley

My
dad
always
told
me
do
a
great
job
where
you
are
do
the
best
job
that
you
can
and
that
would
provide
the
opportunity
to
someone
who
might
think
you
want
to
do
a
great

at
another
level.
AW
So
when
I
was
a
teacher,
I
poured
my
heart
out
of
being
the
teacher,
she
said.
That's
all
she
ever
wanted.
A
piece
of
my
artwork
and
she's
been
here
20
years,
I
said:
you've
been
there
that
long
have
I
gotten
a
piece
of
my
artwork,
so
you
can
get
folks
to
do
anything
if
you
can
get
them
motivated
and
inspired
to
do
it.
So
that
was
that's.
How
I
use
my
artwork
so.
AW
Kids
knew
that
I
could
draw.
They
wanted.
My
artwork
I
said
well,
if
you
want
what
mod
for
her
kids,
but
you
have
to
do,
we
came
up
with
a
program
ready

my

so
from
from
the
time
in
1981
was
a

all
the
way
through
principleship
assistant
superintendent,
known
as
a
community
person
I'm
still
producing
and
sharing
my
hard
work.
BA
That's
another
really
good
club
I
recommend
you
join
so
when
I'm
doing
tourism
things
I
make
sure
that
I'm
the
first
fresh
face
that
they
see
just
all
science
classes.
So
when
I'm,
giving
them
toys
and
things
like
that,
they
get
excited
about
the
school,
so
mainly
English
stuff
like
that
down
this
hallway.
This
is
going
to
be
your
earth.
Science,
classroom
and
I,
really
like
the
idea
of
making
sure
that
their
first
day
goes
smoothly.
BA

that
is
someone
who
just
kind
of
helps
around
the

they
do
tours
for
new
students,
so
we
can
put
Ethan
on
the
posters.
A

helps
with
everything
not

for

She
was
kind
of
one
of
those
people
who
kind
of
pushed
through
the
leadership
out
with
me,
even
though
I
knew
it
was
already
there.
She
just
gave
me
the
note
and
made
me
feel
welcome
to.
BC
BA
The
fact
that
I
have
more
of
a
purpose
I'm,
also
part
of
that
and
I
want
to
come
to
school
I
want
to
be
involved
these
days,
I
just
love
being
around
leadership
around
people
who
are
leaders,
it's
just
very
rewarding,
knowing
how
far
the.

Okay,
Wednesday
is
something
that
we
have
been
doing
for
about
four
years
now:
every
Wednesday,
Miss,
Bowen
and
I
just
like
to
match
it's
just
something
fun
to
break
up
the
week.
One
of
our
sayings
used
to
be
that
we
could
remind
people
what
day
of

it
was.
We
plan
our
outfits
the
night

kind
of
get
in
on
it
too,
and
something
to

to.
AL
AJ
It
started
as
an
accident.
We
would
show
up
to
work
a
couple
times
we're
pretty
similar
outfits.
Our
classic
outfit
is
like
black
pants,
like
white
tea
and
a
jean
jacket
it
just
kind
of
okay,
we'll
do
it
again
and
then
again,
and
it
just

it's

mainly

My

So
within
that
is
a
range
of
disabilities,
so
some
of
my
students
actually
predominantly
I,
have
students
with
autism,
but
I
can
also
have
students
with
other
health
impairments,
some
mild
intellectual
abilities,
medical
disabilities.
Things
like
that.
Can
you
try
that
again
using
your
big
boy?
Words,
the
chips?
BJ
V
BJ
BJ
Because
you
have
your
school
family,
the
kids
that
become
your
kids,
but
you
also
have
your
own
family,
so
it
was
hard.
It
was
hard
finding
that
balance.
If
you
want
to
use
your
words,
hey
it's
your
hand
and
wait.
Oh
my
God.
The
drive
was
for
online
learning.
You
know
digital
learning,
but
with
students
with
special
needs.
BJ
That
is
not
necessarily
the
best
method
of
teaching,
especially
when
it
came
to
teaching
social
skills.
How
do
you
teach
social
skills
virtually
when
you
can't
do
hand
over
hand
when
you
can't
be
next
to
them
when
you
can't
have
them
with
that
quick
redirection,
so
that
was
that
was
the
struggle,
the
social
skills
and
the
behavior.
BJ
Some
behavioral
challenges
is
what
I
find
myself
addressing
the
most
Michael
Com
72
70,
a
lot
of
reteaching
behaviors,
a
lot
of
re-teaching
skills:
how
to
love
themselves,
how
to
make
friends
how
to
talk
to
people
appropriately
I
couldn't
teach
their
numbers
and
letters
and
and
grammar
if
they
couldn't
build
on
those
skills.
So
when
I
call
your
name
come
up
to
me
and
come
get
your
math
journal,
satin
it's
a
beyond
beyond
the

job,
it's
even
if
you're,
not
doing
paperwork.

There's
one
thing
to
sit
in
a
classroom:
you
can
get
your
typical

It
is
another
thing
to
get
the
Hands-On

work
that
our

giving

Our
first
and
only
speaker
this
evening
is
Miss.
Cindy
Fisk
welcome,
Miss
Fisk.
BS
As
you
know,
my
name
is
Cindy
Fisk
and
since
I
retired,
as
a
teacher
after
serving
30
years
in
this
District
I,
have
been
receiving
and
reading
statements
that
are
sent
to
me
and
they
are
written
by
your
employees
since
November
I
want
to
say
something
first,
that
I
have
heard
from
someone
that
I
met
who
had
just
moved
here.
She
moved
in
the
end
of
December
and
she
is
a
certified
teacher.
BS
She
comes
from
a
northern
state
and
instead
of
like
just
getting
hired
on
as
a
certified
teacher,
she
decided
to
get
a
job
in
Berkeley,
County,
School
District,
so
she
took
on
a
job
as
a
teacher
assistant
in
a
self-contained
classroom.
She
told
me
that
she
was
shocked
that
when
she
walked
in
the
classroom
and
see
that
she
and
the
teacher
were
the
only
two
adults
in
the
cross
cat
can
self-contained
classroom
with
15
students.
BS
She
did
inform
me
that
in
the
state
from
which
she
came,
15
cross-cat
students
would
have
a
total
of
seven
adults
in
a
self-contained
classroom.
Now,
with
that
story,
I
want
to
go
ahead
and
read
you.
What
was
sent
to
me
by
one
of
your
employees,
who
is
a
teacher
assistant
in
this
District
a
typical
day,
includes
changing
diapers,
transferring
students
to
and
from
their
Wheelchairs
and
feeding
students
in
the
same
class,
I
have
been
hit,
kicked
spit
on
scratched
and
bitten,
I
understand
the
physical
limitations,
communication
needs
and
behaviors
of
students
with
disabilities.
BS
However,
it
is
overwhelming
there
are
over
50
special
ed
education
teacher
positions
that
are
currently
vacant
and
over
40
special
education
assistant
positions
available.
That
should
give
you
an
idea
of
just
how
understaffed
these
classrooms
are.
I
love
my
students,
but
it
is
stressful.
This
is
especially
true
because
I
am
a
special
education
assistant
and
I
make
less
than
twenty
two
thousand
dollars
annually
and
I
have
to
have
a
second
job
to
live.
I
could
be
making
more
at
Chick-fil-A
or
as
a
door
Dasher
and
not
be
physically
assaulted.
BS
Due
to
lack
of
support
in
these
classes.
Please
tell
me
why
I
should
stay
for
that
amount
of
pay.
Also,
next
Monday
I
believe
is
Charleston
County
school
district
school
board.
Meeting-
and
they
were
talking
about
at
the
last

of
