All
in

all
opposed,
nay,
by
the
way
ms
wofford
is,
is
on
the
telephone
with
us.
So
just
for
your
information,
so
the
eyes
have
it
by
vote
of
7-0.

A
A
F
Hello
window:
okay,
good
evening,
members
of
the
board,
chairman
of
superintendent
jackson,
my
name
is
noel
curtis
and
I'm
a
proud
member
of
the
cane
bay
high
school
custodial
team.
I
want
to
start
with
three
thoughts.
I
love
serving
my
school
community
number
one.
The
points
I'm
going
to
make
could
be
important
for
recruiting
and
maintaining
quality
custodians
for
the
future
of
the
district
number
two.
F
My
views
may
not
represent
every
custodian.
I
believe
that
many
would
agree
with
me
number
three
now
tonight.
I
would
like
to
make
some
important
points
about
the
bcsd
custodial
pay
rate.
It
is
very
difficult
to
take
care
of
one's
household,
making
nine
to
fourteen
dollars
an
hour.
The
fluctuation
of
water
and
electricity
can
be
controlled
to
an
extent.
Many
of
us
struggle
to
pay
rent,
especially
with
the
price
of
homes,
apartments
that
we
currently
see
across
our
area.
F
In
fact,
the
cost
of
living
in
somerville
south
carolina
is
eight
percent
higher
than
the
national
average.
All
people
have
felt
the
impact
of
grocery
prices,
gas
prices,
car
insurance,
etc.
I
do
have
a
personal
car
payment,
but
that
is
only
because
I
need
a
reliable
car
to
get
to
and
from
work
as
well
as
for
driving
my
family,
around
doctors,
appointments
and
so
forth.
F
This
needs
direct
attention.
Many
of
our
schools
are
understaffed
and
overworked
when
it
comes
to
the
custodian
employees.
If
we
want
to
show
our
students,
families
and
teachers
that
we
are
truly
invested
in
them,
we
need
to
show
them
buildings
that
we
can
take
pride
in
while
many
people
play
roles
in
this
process.
So
much
of
the
day-to-day
weighs
upon
the
backs
of
custodians
while
more
money
is
not
always
the
answer
recruiting
and
retaining
quality
custodial
workers
is
going
to
require
consideration
for
raising
the
hourly
wages.
F
These
are
various
factors
into
this,
such
as
leadership,
roles
and
experience,
or
there
are
various
factors
into
this,
such
as
leadership
roles
and
experience.
According
to
other
sources,
south
carolina
ranks
number
37
out
of
50
states
nationwide
for
school
custodian
salaries.
I
am
sure
it
is
a
hiring
house
so
for
our
schools
to
find
good
help.
The
extra
workloads
and
responsibilities
for
the
rest
of
the
custodial
teams
often
have
an
impact
on
morale
and
productivity.
I
know
this
first
hand.
I
know
that
this
board
is
passionate.
F
I'm
sure
you
are
about
every
member
of
the
bcsd
team,
custodians
included.
I
also
realize
that
everyone
wants
and
deserves
more
teachers
across
the
nation
are
underpaid.
I
do
not
want
to
take
anything
away
from
that.
I
do
not
envy
the
task
that
each
of
you
have
in
helping
to
meet
the
needs
and
make
the
decisions
for
our
schools
and
employees.
F
I
am
asking
you
tonight
to
consider
a
discussion
about
what
pay
scale
increases
for
custodial
staff
could
do
for
our
quality
of
life,
as
well
as
the
quality
of
care
for
our
schools
and
students,
and
once
those
discussions
occur.
I
am
hopeful
that
you
will
see
this
as
a
series
of
actions
and
decisions
that
need
to
be
made
sooner
rather
than
later.
I
know
decisions
will
not
be
made
tonight,
it'd
be
nice
if
it
could
be.
Thank
you
and
god
bless
you
and
your
families.
A
You
know
normally,
normally
we
don't
have
much
comment
after
somebody
speaks.
But
I'd
like
to
make
a
comment
to
mr
curtis,
the
last
budget
meeting
workshop.
We
discussed
some
issues
regarding
some
classified
folks
and
the
next
budget
workshop
is
next
tuesday
night
following
the
regular
board
meeting,
and
it
is
on
our
agenda
to
look
at
all
of
our
classified
folks
and
do
whatever
we
can
within
the
constraints
of
the
budget,
to
assist
you-
and
let
me
just
say
your
remarks
were
remarkable
and-
and
I
applaud
you
for
coming
and
thank
you
for
that.
A
H
A
A
A
Excuse
me,
I
apologize
dr
wickfault
did
abstain
from
that
vote,
so
the
vote
was
seven
zero.
I
apologize
dr
wakeful.
Thank
you.
The.
A
We
have
a
motion.
Do
we
have
a
second
second?
Well,
the
motion
of
miss
tanner,
a
second
from
miss
littleton,
to
deny
the
expulsion
appeal
of
student
number
two?
Is
there
any
discussion
hearing
them
will
call
the
question
all
in
favor
of
the
motion.
Please
respond
by
saying
aye
aye,
all
opposed,
nay,
nay.
A
We
have
a
vote
of
seven

in
favor
of
the
motion.

raise
your
hand
three,
four,
six,

in
a

your

The
motion
carries

a

We
have
a
motion
from
mr

a
second
from
ms
marone,
to
authorize
the
superintendent
to
negotiate
with
the
town
of
monk's
corner.
Regarding
the
proposal
discussed
in
executive
session
and
mr
mcquillen
has
recused
himself
from
this
vote,
is
there
any
discussion
we'll
call
the
question
all
in
favor
of
this
motion?
Please
respond
by
saying
aye.

Go
go

A
M
E
N
Ms
barrow
members
of
the
board
members
of
the
audience
cabinet,
we
have
a
full
house
tonight.
We
typically
don't
have
that
during
superintendent's
comments.
You
know.
Last
week
we
had
our
spring
break
and
we're
we're
heading
dead
into
the
finish
for
the
rest
of
the
school
year,
and
so
it's
a
mad
dash
until
the
end
of
the
school
year.
I'll
keep
my
remarks
brief.
This
evening.
I
will
yield
the
balance
of
my
time
to
actually
lieutenant
died.
A
little
bit
later
on.
N
Yesterday
we
had
a
berkeley
county
school
district
office,
professional
development
and
school
support
organized
our
first
annual
bcsd
in
3d
support
staff
conference.
Until
yesterday,
at
goose,
creek
high
more
than
320
of
our
support
staff
members
participated
in
sessions
themed
and
based
on
feedback
from
principals
and
staff
members.
The
goal
was
to
ensure
that
our
support
staff
knows
that
they
are
appreciated
and
they're
supported,
both
personally
and
professionally.
That
was
a
huge
showing,
especially
for
it
being
our
first.
N
I
want
to
thank
everyone
who
joined
us
yesterday
and
all
of
you
that
helped
make
this
event
a
success,
and
next
year's
event
is
already
in
the
works
and
they're
planning
that
already
earlier
today
this
morning,
parker's
fueling
the
community.
How
many
folks
are
familiar
with
that
program?
Oh
not
the
program.
N
And
given
so
a
lot
of
us
are
familiar
with
parker's,
a
lot
of
us
are
not
familiar
with
the
fuel
in
the
community
program.
So
today,
representatives
from
parker's
kitchen
presented
18
presented
an
18
000
check
to
the
district.
These
proceeds.
These
are
proceeds
of
the
fuel
in
the
community
program.
N
On
the
first
wednesday
of
every
month,
parkers
donates
one
cent
per
every
gallon
sold
gallon
of
gas
sold
through
this
program.
N
In
addition
to
excuse
me,
in
addition
to
filling
up
on
the
first
wednesdays
parker's
pump,
pal
members
can
also
select
a
school
to
designate
those
funds
to
so
how
many
of
you
knew
that
none
of
us
right,
and
so
now
you
know,
but
you
can
designate
where
to
where
to
designate
those
funds
to
select
where
to
destinate
those
funds
to
as
a
direct
donation,
we're
thankful
for
parker's
kitchen
and
their
generosity
in
support
of
education
and
our
community,
and
we
look
forward
to
partnering
further
as
they
support
as
we
support
education,
and
now
I
will
defer
to
mr
tim
knight
and
lieutenant
travis
dodd.
N
J
J
While
this
is
a
happy
and
joyous
time
in
many
of
our
high
school
students
lives,
it
can
also
bring
devastating
consequences
due
to
underage
drinking
each
year
with
our
strong
partnerships,
we
join
our
law
enforcement
partners
to
keep
our
students
safe
before,
during
and
after
prom.
I'd
now
like
to
introduce
lieutenant
travis
dodd
of
the
milk's
corner
police
department
to
read
a
proclamation.
K
Underage
drinking
is
a
national
public
health
issue
with
serious
implications,
although
we
have
accomplished
so
much
in
berkeley
county
to
address
this
pervasive
problem,
there's
still
so
much
more,
we
can
do
according
to
a
study
about
the
national
survey
on
drug
use
and
health.
An
estimated
10
million
young
people
younger
than
the
age
of
21
drank
alcohol.
In
the
past
month
in
the
united
states,
however,
many
young
people
start
drinking
before
the
age
of
15..
K
The
monitoring
the
future
survey
found
that
70
of
12th
graders
in
the
united
states
have
tried
alcohol
at
some
time
in
their
lives.
The
survey
also
found
that
27
of
10th
graders
said
they
had
consumed
alcohol
in
the
30-day
period
prior
to
the
survey,
whereas
underage
drinking
has
severe
consequences,
many
of
which
parents
and
caregivers
may
not
be
fully
aware.
K
Consequences
of
underage
drinking
may
include
injury
or
death
from
accidents,
unintended,
unwanted
and
unprotected
sexual
activity,
academic
problems
and
drug
use,
and
whereas
parents
and
caregivers
have
a
significant
influence
on
young
people's
decisions
about
alcohol
consumption,
especially
when
they
create
supportive
and
nurturing
alcohol-free
environments.
And
whereas
youth
who
start
drinking
before
the
age
of
15
are
five
times
more
likely
to
develop
alcohol
dependence
or
abuse
later
in
life.
I
A
We
have
a
motion
from
this
maroon
second
for
ms
tanner
to
designate
april
1st
through
may
31st
2022
as
underage
drinking
prevention
and
awareness
months
in
berkeley
county
school
district.
Is
there
any
discussion
hearing
them
we'll
call
the
question
along
the
favor
of
this
proclamation.
Please
respond
by
saying
aye
aye
and
there
are
none
opposed
unanimous
vote.
8-0.
A
Thank
you,
mr
jackson.
Moving
right
along
to
the
board
chair
report,
just
a
couple
of
items
number
one:
we
will
have
a
regularly
scheduled
board
meeting
next
tuesday.
This
was
obviously
a
make
up
for
the
for
the
meeting
that
was
canceled
due
to
inclement
weather
and
immediately
following
that
particular
regular
schedule
meeting.
K
A
Operational
budgets
are
are
sound
and
fiscally
responsible,
and
I
think
ms
smith
is
going
to
give
us
a
great
presentation
next
week.
There's
also
some
information
that
I
I
feel
compelled
to
share
and
it
is
re
it
is
regarding
a
senate
bill
that
was
introduced
in
december,
and
actually
I've
got
some
comments
that
I've
written
down
if
you'll
bear
with
me,
I
want
to
give
the
public
an
update
concerning
south
carolina
senate
bill
s
910
and
the
redrawing
of
the
school
board
board
of
trustees,
maps
that
are
required
by
law
following
any
census.
A
A
A
A
A
Ladies
and
gentlemen,
I
am
very
concerned
that
we,
if
s-910,
fails
for
whatever
reason
we
will
not
have
necessary
maps
drawn
free
of
charge
to
this
school
district.
It
is
appalling
to
me
that
this
opportunity
has
been
neglected
by
our
lawmaker
who
filed
this
bill,
and
I
I
am-
I
am
not
happy
about
it,
but
these
are
my.
These
are
my
thoughts
as
the
board
chair.
I
do
not
necessarily
speak
for
the
entire
board,
because
each
board
member
may
have
different
thoughts
and
different
opinions.
That
concludes
my
my
remarks.

Members
present

The

action.
Steps
based

their

was
updated
proviso.
Chart
for
paraprofessionals
was
updated
to
reflect
the
2022-2023
school
year.
P
H
Questions,
I
do
have
a
question
so
these
dates
that
are
requiring
them
to
work:
that's
in
their
contracts,
so
these
dates
so
that
that
they
went
up
that's
in
their
contracts.
Now
correct.
Yes,
okay,.
C
So,
as
you've
adjusted
the
allocations,
can
you
clarify
what
is
happening
with
the
mental
health
workers.
P
N
It's
it's
just
been
updated
to
reflect
the
current
practices,
and
so
because
it's
stricken
doesn't
mean
that
they've
been
removed.
It's
just.
It's
been
changed.
The
way
that
those
folks
are
allocated
and
so
they're
more
centralized
with
respect
to
secretaries
and
also
the
mental
health
workers.
We
just
don't
allocate
them
in
the
same
way
that
we
used
to,
and
so
it's
updated
to
reflect
the
current
practices.
